Q: How do I know if I am using my resistance cord in the right way?

FreakyuserI have a new set of Resistance cord that I bought. I am exercising regularly with it, but then how do I know if I am using it in the correct way? Let us say that I am doing the squat with it. I am not sure if I am having an equal length of the cord on each side (from my hand to feet). If th...

Can anyone help me with this question?

Q: Vegan cookbooks that are Eat to Live-compliant?

Michiel BorkentI would like to make a list of vegan health cookbooks that are in line with the guidelines from Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman. Please do not respond if you don't know what Eat to Live is all about. The guidelines for the cookbooks are: vegan health focussed focus on high nutrient foods (primaril...

Thanks for pointing that out @Freakyuser
Though you could/should simply flag it
And then tell me to deal with it, so you get a badge :P

already I flagged the question. Also I flagged one of the answers, which was a first post.

lol:
my new scales arrived today
they show me as some kilos lighter than I previously thought

Hurray!

but they also put my bf% as 30

Perhaps its not properly calibrated

I thought that but I have set all the things I can set
I'll try it again first thing in the morning: it does warn of giving funny results at different times of day
oh no, you're right: it had me down as female
down to a more plausible 21.5% now

lol, good for you

2:28 PM
I stopped using that feature, it's too unreliable

I needed new scales anyway, and these were on sale, so I figured it was a good buy even if I don't use it
it's not like I need to know my bf %age every day anyway :-)

Yeah those scales are really cheap, probably more expensive to get one without

I suppose there's significant market incentive to produce scales that underestimate both weight and bf %age
these ones also claim to measure your visceral fat, but they just report a unitless number, which is not very useful to me

I guess my legs hate me
100km bike race on Sunday, yesterday squats, today some kilometers of running and another 50km of cycling
Squats were a bad idea though, was only able to complete 3 of 5 sets

6:51 PM
@Informaficker And then tomorrow through friday just some light cycling sub-50km cycling?

I finally started back with swimming, though my shoulder already hurts again
Perhaps if I also start cycling to the swimming pool, I can train for a quarter triathlon
> Intermediate (or Standard) distance; commonly referred to as the "Olympic distance": 1.5 kilometer (.93 mi) swim, 40 kilometer (25 mi) bike, 10 kilometer (6.2 mi) run
Something like that should be fairly 'easy'

7:19 PM
@freiheit I have no idea, my mountain bike came back from the workshop, so it's possible that I'll take another ride
Not sure about the next few days though, have a wisdom tooth that has to go… first date with the surgeon is tomorrow, not sure when the operation will be, but after that I'm probably not able to cycle for some time
@IvoFlipse sounds like a nice plan. If my swimming style wasn't that bad (I wouldn't even call that style) I would plan on doing something like that, too.

@Informaficker Yeah, all I need are exercises to stabilize my shoulder and actually do them regularly
Else I'll probably get injured before I get back into shape

I've never been injured, that's probably why I am extremely sloppy with doing stabilization work or even warmups

You're probably not overweight either :P

depends on whom you ask ;)
but no, not really …

7:38 PM
I don't dare asking a question about shoulder exercises, because it'll probably get closed as a medical question :P

Q: Rotator cuff strengthening for shoulder overuse injury

Tushar GargI like to do a lot of swimming, and recently my left shoulder had been giving me some minor pain and occasional clicking noises. I went to an orthopedic doctor and I was diagnosed with "Left AC Synovitis". The doctor recommended a home rehabilitation program, specifically to strengthen my rotato...

Plus its probably a dupe of this
Interesting exercises you posted @Informaficker

What did I post where?
you can always ask medical questions here, I doubt someone will kick you
talking about medical questions … I had funny cramps doing that race
picture the globe from space and all the thunderstorms flickering, my cramps felt pretty much the same in my calfs, just small areas with mini cramps, flickering and disappearing, always with the feeling that if I didn't reduce the load on my calf they will grow to full blown cramps.

I know the feeling
I've had that in my foot/calf when swimming, where you can just feel it starting to cramp
where I needed someone to stretch my foot to get it out
You posted a link to that somewhere

I recognize the video, just wasn't sure where you found it :)

Q: Is it normal to crave for lemons after running

Jens SchauderAbout 1-2 hours after running yesterday evening, I was cooking some salsa in my kitchen. When adding some lemon juice to the salsa I suddenly had a craving for the lemon and basically ate half a lemon. Is this craving caused by the running? If so, does it indicate that my body was missing som...

I would totally close that question, but I have no idea why …

Well there might be a plausible explanation, but I don't understand the practical value of it

11:20 PM
well, the answer might be something along the lines of, "no, it's a symptom of very low potassium levels, you should go see a doctor right away", which would be practical

This article claims that craving acidic things is a sign of low magnesium.
Which could easily also simply be "not enough electrolytes" (magnesium being one of them).

yeah, I just pulled potassium out of thin air as an example
and yeah, if you run a lot and sweat, and then drink filtered water or similar, you might not be replenishing your electrolytes
sounds like we have a practical answer right there!

11:41 PM
I suppose I could write that up as an answer...

all yours: I'm off to bed
