A: What should I look for in a running shoe?

Ivo FlipseDisclaimer: I've worked for a company that makes pressure plates, that allow you to analyze running patterns (with or without shoes). I've did research at a specialized running shoe shop and my father is an orthopedic shoe manufacturer. So in short, my opinions are fairly biased, but by no means ...

yes I'm loving this site @RebeccaChernoff ;)

Interesting: the inception of this site was on the first day of US national nutrition month.

Apparently Jin will be incorporating Ivo into the final design when it makes it out of Beta :p

Q: What is a "Runners High"?

KronoSThere have been a few times in my life, where I believe I have experienced the phenomenon called "Runners High", or the euphoric state during a run where you feel like you can keep running for forever. What exactly is this sensation? Are there ways to 'train' your body to get into this state qu...

Q: Do sports drinks make a difference in a workout?

KronoSBoth Gatorade and Powerade claim to help fill your bodies needs of electrolytes, vitamins, and other nutrients. I'm looking to find out if there's documented proof that these drinks really make a difference in your workout or replenishment of nutrients.

@IvoFlipse you can answer these for me....

8:32 PM
great questions @KronoS :)

isn't sure what possessed him to commit to this particular beta :/

@IvoFlipse ok I'll contain myself and my never-ending search for truth until the Almighty Ivo can impart of his knowledge... :P
@IvoFlipse I just couldn't hold them in ;)

hows that @mootinator?

@mootinator what do you mean?

well I wouldn't have answered them most likely @KronoS, I wouldn't know what to answer to the sports drinks one
and I so miss having access to journals :(

8:36 PM
@KronoS I'm not sure I have much to contribute. I haven't been a remotely serious athlete in about 12 years.
I am very good at sitting on a couch with a laptop these days.

@mootinator I'm not that serious of an athlete either... you don't need to be a profession to have professional ideas, thoughts, questions or answers...

then you're a great person to get started with whatever exercise is feasible again @mootinator

Hi guys, glad to see this site made it to beta

so am I @ginozola
though I would like to see the quality of some questions and answers go up a little bit

I think I understand you, but do you have examples?

well I edited some of them :P

Q: What can I use to monitor my running training?

Ivo FlipseAfter a period of inactivity I recently started running again and want know what gadgets or tools I use to monitor my training. Some requirements: It should offer training programs (based on my level or goal) It should graphically show my progress over time It should be mobile, so I can take i...

I wanted to have a decent overview of available gadgets for working out, but instead we get oneliners, kind of disappointing
so I edited them into something more decent
though they need a personal touch / experience of an actual user

9:08 PM
I see... Nice work. I'll bear it in mind and try to lend a hand.

@IvoFlipse I did the best that I can... but don't have enough knowledge yet :)

and some questions lack any details to answer them
though luckily some were deleted
like: how do I measure peak performance?
peak performance in what?

Oh, that gives me an idea.

Q: What are the downsides of minimalist running shoes?

thepriseOver the past few years, barefoot (or close to it) running has become extremely popular. New Balance, Nike, Saucony, and I'm sure more have come out with minimal shoes, not to mention the Vibram's Five Fingers. We hear enough about the benefits from ad campaigns - what are some potential downsid...

@IvoFlipse I'm surprised you haven't answered this one yet...
also are questions about socks on-topic you think?

I've been busy, sadly. My little sister is going to a clinic for 9 months, so we all have to write a small piece for her. So I'm being creative :P

@IvoFlipse clinic? Is she ok?

borderliner or something, so she's a bit messed up and wants to deal with it

That's awesome she's taking the steps, and that you're being supportive...
@IvoFlipse.... Super both on the internet and at home :)

well I shouldn't be the one getting the credit for it, though I do think my idea is nice :)
Analogous to the list of points of someone with borderliner, I made a list of things that are positive about her, just with some funny pics and texts about her
btw regarding the minimal shoes, I have never tried them myself and I'm actually planning on doing a project together with my previous employer's running shop

10:09 PM
ah well @KronoS, answered it anyway

Possibly a strange question but I'm interested to know if it fits into the 'nutrition' side of the site... Would it be appropriate to discuss Blender drinks aka Smoothies?

They're a big part of my daily routine, especially with regards to fruit/veg consumption, as well as additional supplements.

Perhaps if it started out as a community wiki, rather than having an accepted 'answer'?

I think it depends what the question is.

Take for instance this question on SO I was reading today...

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/315911/git-for-beginners-the-definitive-practical-guide
Blender drinks for beginners: The definitive practical guide - ;-)

10:35 PM
@ginozola i would like that's a CW question, and possibly on the borderline. I say give it a shot and see what the community thinks

10:57 PM
the best idea would be to prepare content and post that right away, to prevent me2 answers that suck
