fyi, i've bolded all the proposed names that got stars. makes some of the long posts in the sidebar easier to read, you don't have to search for the name
if that's a problem for anyone (i don't think it is) let me know
gamehack.com, as opposed to gamehaq (i really hate the q thing)

12:40 AM
@MatthewRead like game copy world? o_O

1:35 AM
gamecopyworld rocked!

2:19 AM
@MatthewRead Somebody should find a way to give back the 14 stars that @badp took away from Gaming.SE
That jerk.

2:37 AM
How about... gamingqueue.com?
or queueagamer.com?

2:55 AM
@Krazer clever, but reminds me of questcompanions.com

@LessPopMoreFizz I don't think star distribution is somehow mutually exclusive. I'm pretty sure the stars weren't "taken away".
GamingQA.com

@skovacs1 Mods can clear stars from a line of chat.
Which not only removes them, but it prevents anyone who has already starred it from starring it again.
So, yes, they were taken away, quite explicitly.

@LessPopMoreFizz well that's something I didn't know. Thanks.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Cancelling 9 stars because David made it clear it has to be .com

I thought you meant badp made a suggestion that drew attention away.

3:03 AM
@skovacs1 Yeah, no, I mean he cleared my stars! MAH STAAAARRRRSSSSS.

3:30 AM
hmm... I wanted to do questionblock.com, but that was already taken... how about questpoint.com?

2 hours later…
5:11 AM
GamingQnA.com
GQnA.com
QnAPlay.com
GamingPlus.com
GameplayQnA.com
May have been mentioned before - GamingAnswers.com
Foregoing dependence on gaming as a theme - StackAttack.com
Stack1Up.com

5:55 AM
3upmoon.com, just for kicks

6:52 AM
It's way too close to Joystiq for my tastes, but ControlStick.com

3 hours later…
9:38 AM
VGQnA.com

9:58 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz They were 9, not 14.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Cancelling 9 stars because David made it clear it has to be .com

10:24 AM
pretty empty in here

10:47 AM
@badp Yes, I corrected myself.

3 hours later…
1:27 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz well suggest gaming.se again

1:52 PM
@skovacs1 oo, i don't hate stack1up

2:40 PM
a variation of @authenticgeek suggestion: answercade.com (available)

3:32 PM
there's always heartcontainer.com

3:46 PM
or entersolutionhere.com

7:00 PM
hi @AnnaLear
we are all alone

THAT'S WHAT YOU THINK

Ahh! hides...

<-- also here

@authenticgeek hello!

@Lauren hi :)
even though we're no longer all alone

7:05 PM
Was anyone not around for the chat yesterday?

waves i wasnt

hi @AshleyNunn

But if i am the only one....

I was around late, but I flipped through the logs

basically we just went over the starred suggestions - do either of you want to call our attention to any of them in particular?

7:07 PM
I like arqade i dont like anything with stack in it - to me that basically says "why bother'

fair enough

Also my apologies for my apparent lack of punctuation.

I mentioned answerarcade.com yesterday, I think it fits a lot of the requirements really well

somebody else counter-suggested "answercade"
3

interesting

7:08 PM
Available, not a brand, arcade indicates a common space for gamers, easily brandable
Alliteration is quite memorable

I can see that yeah - fits the content, the gameish aspect of site rep, and what we do (answer things)

"answerarcade" seems a bit weird, though. I'm not sure how to explain it. Sorta feels like answers are a game? Dunno.

I also think shorter is better
so if we're going with something arcade and can get just 'arqade'
that's probably better
imo

lauren's super pro-arqade :P

The 'q' feels a little forced, though I do like the shorter name

7:10 PM
Team Arqade!

Agreed. Easier it is to remember and tell people about the better . I know i hate telling people to go to gaming.stackexchange because it is long and easy to forget or mangle

@AbbyTMiller I like it best of the suggestions made here
for sure

@Lauren its catchy. I quite like it.

i can't stop thinking about david arquette

any others?

7:14 PM
courtney cox arqade

haha

Haha oh dear
Nothing that super sticks out to me, no. Mind you I am firmly in the omgyay we get a domain yay camp - so i am not super picky

anything is better than gaming dot stack exchange dot com :)

In any event, how much would/will the branding change with a new URL?

@Abby yeah that about sums up ny thought on it

7:18 PM
@AbbyTMiller socks dot gaming dot stack exchange dot com would not be an improvement.

@AnnaLear not sure. think we should probably discuss that in meta dot socks dot gaming dot stack exchange dot com

@AnnaLear what do you have against socks? ;)

what is this about socks, I'm missing something

courtneycoxarqadesocks.com

+1

7:21 PM
aaaanyway...

In any event, how much would/will the branding change with a new URL?

courtneysocksarqade.com

is it just going to say "x" instead of "GAMING"

@AnnaLear it will depend on the new url
what it is

e.g. is the art fixed?

if it has a strong visual (like arqade) we'll probably change the look to match that

7:22 PM
i imagine a new design, at least in part

I do wonder the same thing as @NickT though- how much will the new branding change the site? Or is it purely just a url change?

though the current look probably isn't too far from an arcade look

We should keep the lasers.

@AnnaLear the lazers are awesome. They should stay

7:23 PM
at least @Anna knows how to spell.

Sentiment is what matters here not my spelling.

i thought we decided the canonical spelling here was lazers, english-be-damned

I like the current look of the site and I think something like "arqade" would work well with it

I take back my approval, arqade feels too short
And I can't stop typing a "u" after the q

i'm having the same problem

7:28 PM
Oh yay its not just me. I like the name but the lack of a q is tricky
...lack of a u

arquade
2

Post-name discussion (like after right now) does SE just make a decision or do we go back to a meta post with results?
@AbbyTMiller Now you're just forcing the wrong pronunciation on everyone

@authenticgeek we'll make a decision from the suggestions we have and availability

arquade reminds me of ducks for some reason.

that's why we're giving everyone a chance to come to us with suggestions now

7:30 PM
Got it

as well as thoughts/concerns, etc
right now it looks like either arqade or game council

I do like arqade better out of the two.

@AshleyNunn +1

I'm going to continue to push for this because it looks SO GOOD

@AshleyNunn we're looking into whether we can buy it or not, that's the only issue with that one

7:34 PM
Don't break the two word trend!

@Lauren very cool

@authenticgeek Don't use two words where one would do! Brevity rules. ;)

@AnnaLear There's the problem, I don't think one adequately explains the site :)

@authenticgeek does it have to entirely explain the site?

i think not entirely, but it should do so a little bit

7:48 PM
Agreed - something like happy fluffy bunny land wouldnt work so well
I just think that there is a lot we can do to allude to what happens here without having to spell it out.

nope i'm voting for happyfluffybunnyland.com

@AbbyTMiller especially if bunnies have lasers

OH MAN LASER BUNNIES YOU GUYS

Lazerbunnies i could totally go for.

Lazerbunnies.com?

7:52 PM
done and done

sharks with frickin lazer beams attached to their heads

yes please
i'd take mutated sea bass in a pinch

hehe

ok, so it's decided
laserbunnies.com, with a lazerbunnies.com alias that redirects

perfect

8:04 PM
done and done
anyone else have anything they want to bring up before we conclude this?

seems not
bang the gavel

alright!
thanks for coming everyone :)

8:53 PM
@authenticgeek it's not alliterative; "ans" and "ar" are different sounds
worse, it's a trochee + iamb :P

9:11 PM
@NickT this is why "answercade" was an option... solves the issue with the meter
but i don't love either of them tbh

1 hour later…
10:20 PM
Frankly I'd like to see gaming keeping the stackexchange branding, which has a lot of kudos and respect. To that end, I'd suggest "GSX" on gsx.stackexchange.com. It's a short, snappy name to refer to the site by, but doesn't throw away all that kudos. And it sounds "gamery" for whatever that's worth. No-one really worries what IGN stands for, do they? People still know it's a game site.

actually "GSX" is kind of catchy
we can't get the domain though

10:56 PM
arcadestack.com is available
also toggleanswer.com
