fyi, i've bolded all the proposed names that got stars. makes some of the long posts in the sidebar easier to read, you don't have to search for the name

Agreed. Easier it is to remember and tell people about the better . I know i hate telling people to go to gaming.stackexchange because it is long and easy to forget or mangle
Frankly I'd like to see gaming keeping the stackexchange branding, which has a lot of kudos and respect. To that end, I'd suggest "GSX" on gsx.stackexchange.com. It's a short, snappy name to refer to the site by, but doesn't throw away all that kudos. And it sounds "gamery" for whatever that's worth. No-one really worries what IGN stands for, do they? People still know it's a game site.
