Don't you love it when there's a question that sparked your interest, but after the first comment (apparantly) OP deletes? .__.

@Jan We should kill the OP for that. (•_•)=ε/̵͇̿̿/'̿'̿ ̿

Jan
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I must say, you're in a striking mood today!

@Jan Yes, because I didn't sleep the whole last night.

Jan
Ouch, that's unhealthy D=

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2015 was awarded jointly to Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar "for mechanistic studies of DNA repair".

Another chemistry nobel prize goes to the biologists!
Not that I am upset about it.

Jan
Okay. So thanks to the nobel prize winners, we know why we can take a nice sunbath!
Well, biochemistry. Close enough.

official "advanced information" from the nobel people

Though I completely agree that biology is inferior.
Guess it's easier to get Nobel with biology.

To be fair, the physiology and medicine prize was kind of chemistryish.

Q: Calculating pH of soil-water-alum mixture

WACHAX moles of aluminum sulfate is added to a soil water solution and oven dried. Next 20 mL of water with a pH of 8.08 was added to the dried soil and the pH was recorded. pH readings were generally low ( 3.2-5). Is there a way to back calculate the pH of just the soil water solution w/out alum...

Questions have never been so close to kthxbi

@Jan I dare you to add "kthxbai" to the end of the post.

Jan
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M It's tempting but I shall respectfully decline.

The others.

I started with my master thesis last week and have been busy since then ... meh

@Loong Are we victims?

without Zivildienst, I could have been one of the last diploma students here ...

Nighty-night @inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M you're welcome

Jan
@pH1 I would be surprised if they did because the laws are against it …

@Jan sure. In chemistry, however, the disadvantages of the Master's degrees are evened out when people do a doctorate.

Jan
Let's unpin @inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M's pin for pinning right abuse!

@Jan the law says, that it is allowed as long as there are also bachelor/master options

4:36 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Was hat er gesagt?

Jan
@Loong Which disadvantages?

@Jan I haven't closed the tab yet. (Reloads gun)

i.e. the missing vordiplomsprüfung
at least in my eyes
but the main disadvantage is, that everyone hates it ... not the system itself

@Jan chaotic modular course of study, incomplete basic qualifications, lower usefulness for the industry, but harder course of study for the students
@pH13 true

Jan
@pH13 I stand corrected.
@Loong Waitwot, waitwot, waitwhy, wait-okay …?

@Jan I'm not sure you do want to be here. :D Everything comes at a price! :|
@Jan thx!

@Loong :)

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M What was your teacher idea about two new students?
I'm going to sleep, so I'll read it tomorrow morning.
bye!

@Loong and I was born same day (and month, but nor year XD) as Schrödinger. :D

@Wildcat Hm, I can offer Nikita Khrushchev and Kim Il-sung. :-O

@Loong not bad, not bad!

I should try shoe-banging

@Loong @wild all I can offer Immanuel Kant, Vladimir Ilyitch Ulyanow, Vladimir Nabukov and Donald Tusk. Missed the queen by a day xD

Q: Do we need a tag like "foundations of chemistry"?

Ivan NeretinI mean, for this topic: Understanding chemistry as a whole. This is clearly not "homework". But then, maybe, I (being relatively new to chem.SE) am missing something? Maybe we already have a tag with similar meaning? Or maybe it has been discussed and proven unnecessary?

9:32 PM
@orthocresol read a question before you write!
Whens the next TRE?
Can I help?

Jan
@TanMath Friday @ I dunno ask @inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M

10:02 PM
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M when's the next TRE, can I participate?
@Jan Is there a page abt the TRE?

Jan
@TanMath On meta.

^
I think there's something pinned on the star board to the meta post.

Jan
Yeah, the meta-question is pinned.

@Jan i dont see it...

Too slow D=
Where's a table? I need to flip one! D=

@Jan don't flip the periodic table!

Jan
@Loong Because it would crush poor little (and weak) hydrogen and helium?

@Jan I am not a high-rep member, so I can still participate?

Jan
Yeah, technically. Your edits will have to get approved, which will put me closer to the proofreader badge, so it is much appreciated =3 But remember to try to make substantial edits where possible ^^

@Jan ok.. what time will it be? will it be 15:30 UTC only?

Jan
10:14 PM
We don't know the time yet.

@Jan yay! 15:30 is too early for me...
but does it need to be Friday UTC?
because I'm available early morning Saturday UTC...
@Rigor hello "skill patrol!"

Hi pal :-)

@Rigor u always confuse me!

@TanMath this is my mobile account ;-)

@Rigor oh.. and @skillpatrol is your computer account?

10:20 PM
Yep.

Jan
It'll likely be Friday because tradition.

@TanMath I was trying to be polite. If you want me to be a bit more blunt, your phrasing confused me.
Still, I hope that link was relevant.

@orthocresol ok... I just felt kinda offended because you are telling me, someone w/ a lot of biology background, such a simple concept about biology...
@Jan ok. then maybe i cant make it....

I don't know about your biology background. Sorry if it sounded condescending.
I probably jumped to conclusions because it's a common misconception that people have when first studying plants.
Anyway, regarding TRE, the idea is that we all try to do it at the same time to avoid flooding the main page too much with edited posts. If the others are kind enough to play along, maybe you could help edit before the event starts and then they can approve your edits when it has started
I'm off to sleep. 💤💤💤 (does that show up properly?)

10:41 PM
@orthocresol sure
@orthocresol yeah, but it still doesn't answer my question.. I have found pesticides that use canide but wouldn't they kill the plant?
Plus, maybe this question should be migrated to biology.SE?
@orthocresol its ok.. at least we have cleared our misconceptions...

11:01 PM
@orthocresol the z's show up nicely :-)
💤💤💤

11:56 PM
@TanMath don't be confused pal, it's all about da raiderz :-)
