12:05 AM
we switched to an overhead feed?

oh i don't like those.

I slightly prefer Obie because he scrolls off the screen over time, and doesn't cover up existing messages
but even that is only an issue because I keep chat in a smallish window

@randal'thor: A Spaace Odyssey

@ThePopMachine Ha! Nice one. It took me a moment to get that :-)

12:22 AM
@Ixrec ??

12:38 AM
Some of the "is it ethical to..." questions on The Workplace.se make me sad for people

@ryan Is it ethical to feel sad for unethical people?

It feels like people are so obsessed with work that they feel bad about not working themselves to death.

@ryan Dog people.
Sorry, that was a reference to another chat.

@Axelrod none of the questions I'm talking about are about unethical people

@ryan That depends on how far down the rabbit hole you go. Working overtime without pay, for example, has undue effects on the entire labor market.
But that's not a discussion for here, unless you find a sci fi movie we can cleverly hide it under.

12:41 AM
hmmm
Minority report?

You are walking on a beach. You come across a turtle stuck on its back. What do you do?

They work lots of hours
@Keen I flip it over and keep walking
then go play Commander Keen
Cause I keep seeing your avatar and now I want to play

@Keen Turtle soup.
I'm kidding, but the idea's the same.

@Keen saw a sea turtle chilling on the beach once, so i sat on its back for pics

@Himarm That might have been illegal.

12:48 AM
@Axelrod im pretty sure it is, but i was 13 and didnt care :D

@Himarm that turtle now tells is friends and family stories about the evil flip monster that invades your home at night and turns you over and flashes bright lights at you.

@MikeEdenfield he was right side up, and bigger then i was!~

@Axelrod turtle soup was the world's first pre-packaged food.

I'm sad that Darwin contributed to the extinction of the galapagos tortoise.

true. but apparently they were just too delicious

1:01 AM
@MikeEdenfield And the Dodo apparently tasted like beef.
And the Steller's Sea Cow tasted like veal. So of course we ate the hell out of those.

IF IT'S DELICIOUS IT AIN'T SURVIVING

@CandiedMango People are delicious.
THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!

Q: Been searching for a book involving blocks of fog.

LavenderI read a book nearly twenty years ago when I was in Jr high. What I remember is a man traveling around with a teenage girl, (nothing twisted) in a camper I think, and there were these weird blocks of fog or mist. I believe there may have been a dog also. Lol. It's vague, I know and it's driving ...

@Axelrod Just like pork.

@CandiedMango Circe did a good job.

Q: Jeepers Creepers: The Creeper

flipflorpI was watching "supernatural". Pretty self explanatory Title of a show. The episode was "wendigo". In this episode they were hunting a demon like creature called a wendigo. This creature apparently hibernates for 23 years at a time (as does the demon in jeepers creepers) but anyway they explained...

Q: When did Star Trek: TOS become Star Trek: TOS?

user35594When Star Trek first came out in the 1960s, it was originally called "Star Trek". As it achieved fame and became a franchise with future series and merchandise, it was...only logical...that the very first series would become knows as "The Original Series". When exactly did the first "Star Trek" ...

Q: Did any Star Trek actor play both an Enterprise member and one of the encountered aliens?

rand al'thorIs there any actor in Star Trek who has played, at different times, both a member of the Enterprise crew and one of the strange aliens encountered by the crew? All series (TOS, TNG, DS9, etc.), plus the standalone films, are included in the scope of this question. I'd be most interested in an ac...

Lord VoldemortBelow is a picture of the Black Family Tree, based on a tree drawn by J.K. Rowling. Q: Are the Klingon Gods in Stovokor?

TangoIn the Deep Space Nine episode Homefront, Worf says: Our gods are dead. Ancient Klingon warriors slew them a millenia ago. They were more trouble than they were worth. So were they sent to Stovokor? If not, do we ever find out what happened to the Klingon gods when they were killed?

@CandiedMango Had to stop in and let you know that the BENGALS LOST LASTNIGHT!!! WOOT!!! :)

@steelerfan WOOOO GO STEELERS! We can totally win all the games now!
(I know they didn't lose to steelers)

@CandiedMango Well, at least they're not undefeated anymore!

@Praxis: You here?

3:17 AM
@steelerfan Now we can have our payback!

I'm checking on the ST:TNG bible now, because I do remember reading about DG having some kind of connection to it. I'm trying to find out who got actual WGA credit for the series bible.

@CandiedMango I know. And it is sooooo sweet since it is only a one sided conversation right now :)

@steelerfan He he he, I should probably put my Bengals hat on.

@Tango : Here! :-D

@steelerfan I must have just left it home...

3:18 AM
@CandiedMango NO!!!!!

I could always ask him, but he doesn't like chat messages - he gets way too overwhelmed with them.

Trippy how you can edit in a reply to a message that has come after your original message.

@Praxis: It could also be that it was a staff work and GR got the credit, but it's a significant deal for writers about who gets WGA credit for something like this.

@Tango : I could put that it was possibly ghost written by DG?

@Praxis I don't know. Since I'm working for memory, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read something about him doing the bible - so I'm trying to find out what I can - there may be a reason that's stuck in my head. And, hell, if I can't find it, maybe it'd be a good question for the site.
I also know some of the story about his departure and I think there were some negative feelings involved.

3:24 AM
@Tango : Also, about your Stovokor question, I just want to run this by you: they often refer to Stovokor as a place for "the honoured dead" and a place where "true warriors" go after they die to "fight an eternal battle"...it sounds like it is just for warriors

@Praxis Yes. That's my thought, but I figure there might be someone who knows tons of esoteric stuff about Klingons that might have an interesting answer that's more than a "yes" or "no."

@Tango : Fair enough. I'll post that for now, and see if something better comes up. :-)

@Tango How is the property?

@steelerfan I was just out there today, putting a few boards across a creek to make a temporary crossing. I'm going to have to figure out something a little better than what I have now. But we've done a lot, even though it doesn't look it. Now we're waiting for the county to approve the wetlands information.

@Tango Ugh. You have wetlands?
@MikeEdenfield BENGALS LOST!! BENGALS LOST!! BENGALS LOST!!

3:29 AM
@steelerfan Yes. We wanted at least a creek. There's a waspond there, too. We're hoping to restore that and make it a pond again.

@Tango Isn't there a lot of environmental restrictions with wetlands?

@Tango : What kinds of wildlife do you have around there? Any waterfowl in the wetlands?

@steelerfan Basically there's a 100' RPA (Resource Protection Area) around the creek and the waspond, since there's still wetlands plants scattered around the old pond boundaries, but we can still build where we want.
Also, there's an old pig barn in the RPA, near the creek. It's old enough it's grandfathered in, so we can make that a recreation area and use the HUGE concrete pad next to it as a mega-screen porch and patio. As long as we stay within the existing footprint, we can do pretty muc hwhat we want.

@Tango Oh, that's really cool! We had spotted owl environmental issues when we built our house :(

@Praxis I've seen hawks and turtles. My fiancée saw a fox. We know there are deer. We're not sure what else, right now, but probably typical woodland creatures. Within a year there'll also be a few
sorry - within a year there'll be a few cats and two chihuahuas there.
(One chihuahua is on my desk as I write this - he hit <return> above and broke up my comment!)
@steelerfan What kind of issues did that create?

3:36 AM
Hehe :-)

@steelerfan i know nothing about the bengals.

@Tango We had to re-locate where we were going to clear timber to build our house.

We have another unique feature that could create some problems...
@steelerfan By how far did you have to move?

@MikeEdenfield I know. I just wanted to let you know :)
@Tango 2 acres

@steelerfan I'm only interested in knowing when i have to avoid Facebook because something good or bad happened to Baltimore.

3:37 AM
@MikeEdenfield So, you avoided it Sunday I am assuming when they lost again? ;)

for example, I had to unfriend 2/3 of my family for a week when the refs screwed up some call in the Ravens/Jaguars game

I'm beginning to avoid FB after any events that have strong political connections. All sides can get really ugly. There's always haters and haters of haters.
@steelerfan How big a lot do you have?

@Tango I have 6.5 acres.

@Tango - it's even worse than Mos Eisley!

@SSumner Yeah. It's not disagreement that gets me, is the ugliness and hate that I see from normally reasonable people that drives me away.
@steelerfan Were you limited in how much you could clear?

3:41 AM
@Tango - I just give up on Facebook. 99% of the time a reasoned debate turns into name-calling

@Praxis: I'm tempted, if I can find ANY reference to the bible not being written 100% by GR, to post the question, then send the link to DG on FB and see if he wants to respond to it.

@Tango No. We just could not be within 2 acres of spotted owl nesting areas. So, we moved our plans to have the house in another area and sign an agreement that we would never harvest the timber in the nesting areas.

@SSumner I'm starting to use these photos to call people on logical fallacies when they jump in emotionally:

@Tango - I may steal those, and just watch debates and not contribute except with those >:)

@steelerfan How do they measure acres? For us, they specify as feet. For instance, 100' away from the creek. But when they say "2 acres," that could be some mighty thin acres!
@SSumner Look over them. They're great!

3:44 AM
@Tango Er, I don't know. My husband dealt with all of that.

@Praxis: Read the 4th paragraph below the title "Star Trek Affiliation" on this link:

http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/David_Gerrold
So he wrote at least part of it.
And this:

^^Please read that over. We're migrating back to the old Mos Eisley. I'll leave this chat room open for a bit so discussions here can wrap up, but please head back to the original chat room soon.

Carry on.

Keen has unfrozen this room.

Lies! Mos Eisley is still frozen

3:53 AM
@Praxis: Here's the image I was trying to upload (chat freeze stopped it):

@SSumner Or is it?
O_o

@keen - blast! Foiled angina!
*again
Wut

So @Keen foiled @SSumner's angina?

@tango - I...guess
Although since angina is chest pain, that's a good thing right?

3:58 AM
"Everybody's dead, Dave" (said Holly in "Red Dwarf") We are all back in the original Mos Eisley, nobody's here.
Someone star that or whatever so people will be clear where we all are.

HI EVERYONE, IF YOU'RE HERE AND READING THIS, WE'RE ALL IN THE REAL ROOM. COME JOIN US. :-)

Aaaand we're done here. Head here:
