Q: server 2000 'Installer interrupted before service could be installed'

BeginnerI want to install a service on a windows server 2000. I get Error: The installer was interrupted before serviceSetup could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again. I have checked the event viewer and wasn't helpful. Product: serviceSetup -- Installation failed. I ha...

Looks very much like a .NET based service you're trying to install. Do you have the right version of the Framework installed?

Are you sure you mean Server 2000? That version has IIS 5.0.

If you actually meant Server 2008, the IIS 6.0 compatibility features can be installed from the Server Manager console, assuming you need them.

i do mean server 2000, i have .net 2 and 4 installed

In which case the comment about IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility makes no sense. Server 2000 has IIS 5.0. Why do you think you need the 6.0 compatibilty settings? What does the service do? Can you tell us the product name?

i just googled the error and people were saying about that, at the moment the service doesnt do much, just copies data from a db

Make sure that the Windows Installer is up to date on the 2000 box.

Well, that confirms that it's using the Windows Installer to install the service. Check that you've got the latest version installed:

Also, if you're already running that version, it might be that your installer needs a newer version of the Windows Installer to work. 3.1 is the last version that was released for Windows 2000. Which version of Windows do you have on your workstation?
