It's such a joy to be outgolfed on things I worked hard on. Give some love to proud haskeller's Interleaving golf and quintopia's ABACABA Cities golf!

Hey @xnor, what does l<[] in your answer here do?

it checks if the value is a number, i.e. a leaf
Python 2 claims that all numbers are less than all lists

Weird o_O
Does Python 3 do that too?

in its quixotic endeavor to compare any two objects

:D

Python 3 took it out because it was dumb
a loss for golfers though

Yeah. Well, a lot of things got a lot less golfy in Julia 0.4 so I understand your plight.

i'll edit my explanation
there's so many things that are second-nature that I forget need explaining because they make no sense unless you've seen them

Haha that's the mark of a seasoned golfer

Python golfers, there's an interesting situation with quintopia's ABACABA golf where an auxiliary function lambda x:" _"+f(x) is used to prepend a fixed string to the result of the recusively-defined function f. This seems long for such a basic fix. Any ideas?

@xnor f=lambda n,s=' _':n*"'"and s+f(n-1,'')+"_"*(n-2)+"\n%c|%s|"%(64+n,"_"*n)+f(n-1,'') should work, no?

10:27 PM
Or f=lambda n,s=1:n*"_"and" _"*s+f(n-1,0)+"_"*(n-2)+"\n%c|%s|"%(64+n,"_"*n)+f(n-1,0).
