I wish I could just post the Charlie Sheen scene in Ferris Beuler's Day off as an answer. :)

Q: Should I cover for a chronically late employee?

no patienceThe chronically late employee has worked here 3 years I just started. Short of changing my job (I've only been here a little while) I don't know what else to do. No one else is affected by this lateness except me because I have to cover both our phones until they are settled in. There's no way...

@ChristopherEstep I'm wondering if I should just come up with a template and then cut and paste my "Mind your own business" template as needed

in fairness, it is his business because it's making more work for him, but he's certainly blowing it out of proportion.

Q: Request to Participate In An Interview For Carnegie Mellon - Workplace Stack Exchange Use

dfundakoI recently received an email asking to participate in a Carnegie Mellon study regarding my use of the Workplace StackExchange for career guidance. I have included an image of the email just in case any of the links are malicious. I have visited the CMU review board site at http://www.cmu.edu/rese...

@ChristopherEstep it's also a small injury, which stings more than a large one.

Hi guys

@user8469759 howdy, good <timezone>

the company the kept me wait for months finally told me they discarded me
now I have a question
I particularly like this company
so I'd like to apply again when the opportunity will come out
how can I ask to them how long should I wait before I can apply again?
I'm asking because well... three monthes to give an answer
assuming there's point in asking such a question

I think that will depend a lot of the company
for context, I got an interview for a job at my current company in a different group about 2 days after another group rejected me
But, I knew people in the company, so it wasn't as much of a problem
I know we reinterview internships candidates too within a semester or two, as well

but do you think it's inappropriate to ask?

5:52 PM
did their rejection have any sort of language?

monthes ago they said "He really felt your interview went well..."
and just right now
Following your interview ...., he’s now reflected on feedback after meeting all candidates and has decided not to proceed with your application at this stage as he’s found candidates closely aligned to his requirements.

Let’s keep in touch for other opportunities that will become available

is it a contracting company? they might be in this position:

Q: How To Delay Hiring A Candidate For 1-2 Months

DomainsFeaturedWe just hired a new team member. Just as her hiring process was wrapping up, we found another ideal candidate. He would be a great fit at our company. I don't want to lose him. But, we don't have the budget to take him on now. Since May has 3 pay periods, the payroll really jumps up. So, we woul...

what you mean by contracting?
I've never asked but I assume it was a permanent contract

Some companies don't have consistent budgets, but only have funding if they receive contracts
I interviewed at a company like that a while ago, too, they were interested in me, but they didn't have funding, wanted to stay in touch, etc

this recruitment process has been exhausting, mostly because I kept studying in the meanwhile
so I could show my best at the f2f interview

I look at employment like a relationship. Would you want to date someone who didn't seem all that interested in you back?

I'm not sure I get your metaphore
but for sure I'm confused
I believe in this specific case the problem was the manager
the hiring manager
so probably with a different team the things would have gone differently
but anyway I've been applying for very big companies, and I don't understand how things works there what kind of strategies they use to hire people etc
I had 3 of such cases so far
and they all went similarly
I don't understand if maybe they think I'm not experienced enough, or I have lack of skills

The company wasn't that excited about you yet you're still excited about them. It's like going on a date and being told after a few dates "I'm not interested" but still wanting to figure out how to win the girl over.
So much of getting hired is also timing. Just keep trying until you get something. Try to get feedback from people who've interviewed you as well.

how can I ask that?
or how can I get a feedback on that?
to the company before this one I've just asked and they answered me straight away
by basically telling me that in one of the steps I didn't perform as they expected
compared to other one of course
I don't see why in this case the answer would be any different

Hi
@BradC @BradC It's actually been quite complicated. In short, it's all worked out and my coworker has left. It looks like this isn't the first time this has happened - this guy apparently has a track record - and my boss knew about it and was doing him a favor by giving him a job.

7:18 PM
@eipi Wow, glad that he is gone, but that sure puts your boss' "shock and outrage" into a very different perspective. Thanks for the update, and good luck on the job search.

7:29 PM
@ChristopherEstep HNQ --> pointer towards yesterday's chat --> interesting comment linked back to this one: Man, this is why you never ever e-mail something you don't want to get out. Mistakes, someone forwards something they shouldn't, etc.

@BradC yeah, It sure has soured the relationship. It's caused real issues in the company too. Other management knew about it too, but didn't know about my situation until it all went down. They're not very happy with him either

8:19 PM
@eipi Man, the pile of crap grows deeper. In one sense, you're entitled to feel outrage that nobody warned other employees he had a history of this. But in another very real sense, why the hell are they hiring employees that would require an advanced warning.
And people don't think there is a such a thing as institutionalized sexism

@puzzlepiece87 it's helpful to treat everything you do in paper as if it's public. especially if you work for the US government, it might end up that way!
