The question as I took it was "Do I deserve to be ridiculed publicly for asking about the dress code", which seems somewhat on topic. Although maybe the question could be more focused on that.
Hmm, I can see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure even that is a decent question.
For starters, there's a big difference between this having been an in-joke when the office doesn't have a dress code at all or if this was really meant as a joke at the OP's expense.
Given that this happened years ago it's possible that it was the former but OP didn't realise, being new to the workplace, and now has a twisted recollection.
And I'm struggling to see what useful answers we can get to this even if reworded.
"Is it normal to ask about the dress code on my first day?" is perhaps a valid question but not really the core issue I suppose.
