@MaskedMan My educated guess is because largely indian employers treat employees like absolute trash and finding one that doesn't is a tedious and annoying process

Q: Should we make country tags visually distinct?

LilienthalCountry tags have a bit of a history on this site but the general consensus seems to be that they serve a useful purpose. Unfortunately, even when they are added to a question, they often end up ignored because many people don't check the tags before answering or commenting. I thought that exper...

Q: Is "How to get donations anonymously in a room" on topic?

David KI just saw the question "How to get donations anonymously in a room" pop up, and I really have no idea if it's on topic or not. On the one hand, I don't really understand what this question has to do with the workplace. On the other, we could probably answer the question and I don't know that the...

@Magisch Indian employers are not as bad as you guys like to believe. You shouldn't judge an entire country by some two dozen questions posted on this site. Quitting a job is never really a problem for majority of the Indian employees, and we can generally stick around for as long as we like. And the employers treating employees as trash is an exception rather than the rule. If you still wish to continue believing in your prejudices, you are, of course, free to do so, and it is not my problem.

1:24 PM
@MaskedMan Between the obvious institutional misogyny in the law system, the ridiculous religious intolerance and the draconian workplace laws, india is quite bad. Bad enough in fact that I would be hard pressed to ever go there regardless of the circumstances.
In fact its more or less on par with china in that respect, which is sad. Both of these have a long way to go.

@MaskedMan It's not the Indian employees, but the employers using sub-standard employees. THIS was told to me by an Indian coworker "The people who do good at university are hired by major corporations as direct hires. The outsourcing companies draw from those who did not go to good universities or from the ones who did poorly. These companies have one or two good people who go on the interviews, get hired, and then suddenly have family emergencies back home.

1:51 PM
@Magisch ahhh good ole European "we're so much better than the rest of the world" beliefs :P
@MaskedMan I think the main thing that annoys me is resume inflation that seems common in India - our "senior consultants" were... ahh, how to say, not at all senior in terms of their abilities but their resumes sure made it sound like they were
@Magisch it's easy to judge from your vantage point, it sounds like you've never been to India and have no interest in traveling there

@enderland For much the same reasons that I've never been to the USA and have no interest in traveling there.

Hm, lets see if this works... "If you give me a substantial raise, I will have a harder time to find a new job as I unlikely would work for less than what I currently make"

Depending on your boss, it just might

depends on how much you hate your job too :P

@enderland good point ^^
So I will better formulate it as "100% raise" then ;)

Well if your boss really needs you then that works
How underpaid are you that you want a 100% raise?

Not underpaid at all, just fed up with this job ^

2:10 PM
But you think to yourself "well for double maybe"

@PlasmaHH didn't you just start?

or will that Q be purely rethorical?
My bosses just give out raises every february

@enderland no, I started looking for new jobs nd stuff

ah

Honestly I don't think I could be bothered to find another atm

2:12 PM
Then the current one is not yet bad enough ^^

Well the hours are humane, I make about 70% more then comparative pay for apprentices and I get to set my own deadlines
And 30 days PTO ftw

Well, I work less hours than the industry average and have 32 days, but that doesn't weight up for being surrounded by morons and morons deciding what to do on all levels

^^

@ender you had a job change too recently?

@Magisch about three months ago, so it depends on "recently" :)

2:20 PM
what do you do now?

unless you regularily switch each year, that is recently ;)

some people would consider 3 months not very recent

wel, if you put it into the perspecitve of the age of the universe...
Why does the process of finding a new job has to waste so much time on so many levels?

2:42 PM
@MaskedMan Because they have 1.7 billion people viaing for ~200 million jobs.

5:46 PM
@RichardU Yes, that is definitely a big problem. Closely related to that is the visa fraud that a lot of Indian companies (and even Indian arms of US companies) used to indulge in (and still do!).

6:35 PM
@MaskedMan I've got quite a few friends from India. I tend to get along well with people from that culture. I don't know why, but I've heard the same stories about the outsourcing companies over and over. They never employ good people, they do the bait-and-switch constantly, they lie constantly, and they simply can't be trusted. This is not a reflection upon the Indian people, but the corrupt companies. This is why so many who land in the USA try to get from H1-B visa to US Citizen fast.

@8protons - yours was the sort of question best discussed in chat, rather than a Workplace post. Sorry you ended up deleting it, but I did think it was off topic. If you were to ask here, in chat, however, you might be able to get a conversation going with some of our members :)
