Q: Why is the question about group interview is company-specific?

OokerThis question is closed with the reason of being company-specific: In group interview, do candidates the being asked more questions than others have higher chance to be admitted? Why? If there is a post from a country I don't live in discussing about group interview, then I'm pretty sure that th...

@ChristopherEstep That's right, but I agree with @enderland that it's a pretty weak original question even then. Perhaps a canonical question would be useful?

Q: Built and nurtured good team and base for the project. Some one else taking over and plans to replace

BabuContext: I am a Lead Developer working for a US based client. Client operates on a client-vendor-employee model. My Employer is the vendor to the client. Updated to clarify my question.

hi
@Kaz Why are you poring over that particular tome?

Kaz
@AaronHall Because the data doesn't exist anywhere else.
(Well, anywhere public or accessible)
(Believe me, this was not my first choice)

3:37 PM
I was thinking of using that kind of information to target my resume sending.

Hello
I have an idea, but not sure about it
the situation is - my teamleader often tells stuff quick so its hard to remember everything
without writing
and oftne happens that I do not write everything, because I have to listen and write at the same time
so I cannot write listen and understand so fast
so I think
maybe I could ask him - can I record the sound while we are discuussing
and then if I misheard something, I can rewind and relisten
he likes to say workds like "I told this" when I ask same thing because I did not memorize because of his fast talking
so it looks like he does not like to repeat

6:31 PM
@Will_create_nick_later Can you just get a new job?
Stack Overflow is overflowing with possible jobs:

I've worked for people like that. 9/10 they're doing it intentionally. It leaves them room to blame others with no paper trail.

Hard to change a boss. Very likely to get you fired to try.

I've found such people are barely competent (if at all) and it's never ended well.
My point is he doesn't want you write stuff down because that makes him accountable. This way you can't challenge anything he says.

That's why orgs get ticketing systems, they have a record of work getting assigned and getting done.

I say that Clinton is what you get when you try to rig a primary and succeed, and trump is what you get when you try to rig a primary and fail

I had a boss who would give me a little post-it from the rows on his window as tasks. That was his idea of project management.

6:43 PM
Republicans are so disorganized they couldn't rig their way out of a paper bag.

like that, only 5x as many and the little tiny ones.

7:03 PM
@AaronHall - but I just recently joined this job and it looks good besides sometimes leader being angry. I do not know how to find better job
how to recognize
plus also how will I explain change job after 2 months which is good in peoples eyes
I would not be surprised if they fire me, especialy because of productivity
@ChristopherEstep - its not as bad, when he sees I start writing down, he stops talking and lets me write :)
we also have ticketing system
yea , but changing job I do not like the idea. I was fired from previous job after 8 months of work, and now I would have again to explain short work time. And also as I said I am not sure how to even recognize better job.

If you're genuinely concerned about getting fired, start looking now because it's far easier to find a job when you have one, especially when they won't call the guy who you think is about to fire you.
Which is easier, explaining why you're looking or explaining why you were fired?

of course - why I am looking

When you're looking, the reason is up to you and you're much less defensive.

but besides this - this job looks one of the best in the market of my city
so really I am afraid to get even worse job
also another 2 good companies did not hire me when I was searcrhing
so after 2 months if I send them again , I doubt they will hire
I need to build at least cv record of wroking longer in current company
and in every job I have worked - I was afraid of being fired
but in one hwich I was afraid - I workded more than 3.5 years

Then how about this? Take the notes that you can and when you're done with the meeting, email him your own summary and ask if you missed anything?

7:13 PM
I think he might not like that

Then how about this? Take the notes that you can and when you're done with the meeting, email him your own summary and ask if you missed anything?

he might think that I did not miss, because some things are too obviuos which are not included in the notes
so you do not like idea of recording sound?
sound would not miss anything if recorded well
and also he would have to use good tone :D
he would not like to be recorded using angry tone I guess

It can't hurt to ask. I'd stress with him that you only want to record to take notes more accurately. He'll probably refuse (as would I).

@Will_create_nick_later you're on far too thin ice to be even thinking about offending your boss by asking to record him. Just take lots of notes. Sounds like you need to learn more about your job too. Take it upon yourself to use your downtime to learn your job more.

@AaronHall - hmm learn the job. WHat do you mean? learn their huge system written in PHP?

7:25 PM
@Will_create_nick_later here's a quick quiz for you: Which is worse, having a worse job, or having no job when your ignatz boss fires you??

Yes, whatever it is.

@RichardU - having no job. But on the other hand if its not my fault but bosses fault, then I can exaplin this in the new interview. But the question is - is it really my boss fault
@AaronHall - hmm, sounds weird to learn on my time their system. If I learn on my time, I try to learn what I can use in other jobs and what raises my market value
I will need to talk with my friend programmer who often gives me advice, about getting worse job.
But I believe he will not agree about this.

@Will_create_nick_later I said "downtime" - that means at work.

@AaronHall - ah ok
@AaronHall - not mauch that downtime :)

@Will_create_nick_later it's not a problem, they are not going to ask too much about your present boss or company. If they ask, say that you're more interested in the opportunity at this (new) company.
which is true

7:30 PM
On your own time, you should be learning more and fishing for more opportunities like Richard suggests.

@RichardU - you mean when seaching while I have job ? btw I have this job for 2 months

@Will_create_nick_later to accomplish both at the same time, consider going to meetups relevant to technologies you want to work in in your city.

and if I leave myself so fast, then even if they search for new team, I will have bad history with them by leaving so fast and I will have hard time to be hired.
@AaronHall - yea, I go to meetups from time to time

No one said to leave them without a job offer in hand.

@AaronHall - I mean even if I get job offer. WHat if I do not like that? what if I do not like few companies in a row and still believe that where I am now was best so far?
I was really wanting to make them like me

7:35 PM
You make your choices and you resolve to stick to them. That's how you build a good reputation.

and then after few years if I want to change the job, I still want that they let me back in case I do not like new job

To get to that point, all you have to do is make your boss happy with you. And we've already had that discussion.

yea
which I am trying to do

@Will_create_nick_later if you're that worried about the job after the next job calling this one, have a friend do a verification of employment call for you. if they bad mouth you, you can nail them.

@RichardU - sorry did not get what you say. Can you reprhase?

7:46 PM
@Will_create_nick_later you are overthinking this. I was out of action for five years, started doing volunteer work, then worked at a bloody box store part-time, then as a data entry clerk, and now a programmer again. All of this after recovering from a stroke.
@Will_create_nick_later if you are worried about this company saying bad things about you down the line (after you've moved on) have a friend call pretending to be an employer asking about your time there. If they say bad things, they are in trouble. They by law in most jurisdictions cannot say bad things about you.

@RichardU - I believe if you are good enough programmer you can go back withootu trouble
I just do not like that idea that I improved so much over thse years and still companies can fire me
while there is so big demand for programmers

You won't be able to go back if you leave them within 3 months unless they're severely underpaying you.

and if they tell bad things about me - how I will find out or prove :)

@Will_create_nick_later as I just said, your own drive and performance will speak much more about you than a previous employer.

@AaronHall - thats what I was talking about

7:52 PM
That's why I say you have a friend call pretending to be an employer. Your friend will tell you.

@RichardU - completely agree. Hmm with friend lieing - not my style of doing things :)

ok, I'm not going to talk about this further.

8:07 PM
@Will_create_nick_later why? You're not hurting them, just seeing if they're trying to hurt you.

8:19 PM
@RichardU - its unethical to lie. I do not want to have liars reputation also. The truth comes out often

It's not lying "I'm doing a verification of employment for @Will_create_nick_later, did he work from 'X to Y'? Would you hire him again? " Find the lie in that

Well uh, this is a new one.
I'm writing my notes for an interview I have tomorrow.

new one?

And I think "surely it wouldn't be a problem if I printed this out and brought it along"?
So I look it up
Turns out I answered the question myself:

Q: Is it ok to take notes to an interview

AnonDCXI have a job interview tomorrow for the role of a junior software developer at a medium sized company. I get nervous and sometime forget what to say and questions that I have for them so I am planning to write a list of questions I want to ask and important events in my development experience th...

People say that happens on StackOverflow - sometimes I reference my own material too.
So long as you write good material, that's an ok strategy. :)

Good luck on the interview

@Lilienthal you have good writing style, BTW.
Very imitation worthy. takes notes

9:38 PM
@ChristopherEstep Cheers!
@AaronHall And thanks. I'm glad that my writing has improved in large part thanks to this site.
I used to spend hours writing and rewriting a single answer.
I was always happy with the quality of my writing but it was so damn slow. ;)

Ah yes, it always takes more effort than it seems to.

Heh, I have an average of 1.62 edits on each of my posts. ;)

@Lilienthal I wonder how many I have... :o

Q: First "real" job search in late 20s. Dont know what to put in CV about 5 year gap

Nikola RadovicSo as a student in my freshman year, I got into a very lucrative industry of selling MMO currency, accounts and ingame related services. One year fast forward I have over 3000 monthly customers and am making 10x what my dad makes. Fast forward another year i quit my uni, i am renting 2 appartment...

tl;dr - committed tax fraud for a decade, how do I put this on my resume?

10:05 PM
@enderland Hah, you have 1.61 ;)
Actually, hang on, my query is wrong
I have 1.7 average edits on my own posts (previous query looked at all edits)
You have 1.85 @enderland

doh. too much a perfectionist!

Ah, now I know. It's because of the edit grace period.
SE rolls most edits into a single entry.
In case anyone wants to check his own, run this query for your user ID, download the CSV and Average the edit counts
I can't be arsed to create a proper query ;)
You're getting close to legendary aren't you @enderland?

10:29 PM
Pffffff
@enderland Congrats in advance then ;)
I better get a good night's sleep, later all.
