Q: Customary to ask for references from new grad with no work experience?

My question is simple: is it customary for entry-level software engineering/tech jobs to ask new/recent graduate for references, even if they have no work experience? In other words, this would necessitate academic references. I'm asking because I am in this position and I want to make sure I hav...

I decided to edit the post to add a little part asking if academic references were required

but because I was not use to the layout of the review queue I didn't notice there were already two answers and it made one of them not really complete! Oh no!

I know edits which change the are generally no-nos but... 1) The original question still exists, 2) the revision I made hopefully will promote answers other than 'yes' type answers

should I try flag for mod attention, edit again, just leave it?

I assume that you did not create trouble in class and have a decent record as a student, meaning getting things done properly, no cheating, maintaining proper decorum in class, getting decent g...
