how to enter a backtick so that it is visible in the text. I only see it highlighting a word. e.g., for i in cat xyz; do
even here they disappear :p

no, I would never do that - cat file | while read i; do is much better - much much easier to format :p
but i had already tried double backquotes, and did not see any backquotes. will try again another time. thx.

@MichaelFelt Backquote formatting is a pain here, no question about it.
Those we escaped:
 `this is inside \`backticks\`, yeah!`
The above will render like this inline: this is inside `backticks`, yeah!
 
Hello everyone. More internet weirdness, courtesy of my ISP.
So, it is possible for wget unix.stackexchange.com to hang on the terminal, and work in a browser? Because that's what I'm seeing right now.
Same with lwn.net.
