Hi, it appears you have been around the site for a long time so I was curious to see if you had an opinion or any history about the discussion of this issue.

My understanding is that upvotes endorse the ideas/meanings contained in answers. They do not endorse the person who posted the answer (endorsement of people is covered by reputation).

So following that logic, self-edits should be restricted to spelling corrections, typos, etc. Editing the meaning of your post while keeping the upvotes/downvotes would be treating the upvotes/downvotes as an endorsement/condemnation of the user rather than the ideas in the post.
