@AffableGeek Would you be willing to trade weeks with me on the blog in April? I'm considering covering Holy Week for my Easter post, and would like to be able to post it during Holy Week.

speaking of which @JonEricson @AffableGeek @BruceAlderman @PeterTurner what day do you guys want posts to go up?

@waxeagle I don't have a preference. I guess in April, it would be convenient for them to go out on Sunday. That would put my Easter post on Easter Sunday!
But readership will be low on that day, I'd imagine. ;-)

@JonEricson that'd be good (btw for April I'm going to try do do a lot of the work ahead of time as my wife could go into labor at any moment through that month)
@JonEricson yeah I'd say either Mon Wed or Fri would be better than Sunday

@waxeagle My first thought is Monday, to have a new post at the beginning of the week.

T/Th wouldn't be bad either, I want it to be consistent
@BruceAlderman seems like a good plan to me
I'm planning on putting up the topic on the 1st of each month regardless of day.

8:17 PM
@waxeagle Congratulations! Please do take it easy and plan ahead. ;-)

that way it usually is not the same day as our post.
@JonEricson I will absolutely be doing so (or asking for someone to sub for me if I cannot for some reason). But I plan to write April and May before March is out.

If we get more contributors, would we spend more weeks on each topic, or have multiple posts on some weeks?

@BruceAlderman I'd say multiple posts/week
I like the topic/month idea and I think drawing it out past that would be mildly tedious (but I'm just one person and this isn't my blog)
also @all of you authors, have any of you blogged for SE before (ie should I add your accounts) or should I give you new ones? question 2 are all of your account email addresses valid ones?
and third question. would you prefer your display names on the blog or something else?
sorry for so many questions. for now lets manage drafts through google docs. I have a collection started for this. not sure if I've linked it here but I will now.

@waxeagle I have not blogged for SE before; my email address is valid; and I'd prefer my display name.

@BruceAlderman k thanks
I will add you guys specifically as editors on this collection when I add you to the blog.
if you know someone who loves proofreading and editing we could use someone to do it. :)

8:29 PM
@waxeagle Never blogged before, email is valid and I like using "Jon Ericson". ;-)

@JonEricson awesome

@waxeagle I've been thinking: once we get things up and running, we should let the managing editor decide the posting schedule. Authors would submit posts by the first of the month and let the editing team (!?) pick which days and in what order the articles are published.
That way the editor has the flexibility to do things in a sensible way and the authors don't have to worry about the deadline shifting from month to month.

@JonEricson sounds good to me.
I would definitely like all articles by the 1st of the month anyways :)
I know that is a short deadline this month, but next month that will for sure be the deadline. edits through that time are fine, but then I can just set it up
and leave it be

8:50 PM
also if chat picks back up again at some point down the road we can create a blog room to take this discussion out of the main chat, but I don't see a need atm

@waxeagle I was going to suggest doing that. I was thinking up picking up some of the questions that were asked in the comments of the Google doc and re-raising them.

@JonEricson k. probably not a bad thing overall to have our own room for it.

@BruceAlderman I'm totally flexible on weeks. Go ahead and switch me on the schedule if you'd like
The only week I need to have off is between May 12 - 22. I'm going to hike the Grand Canyon that week, and I plan on NOT having internet access.

@AffableGeek good deal. Jon and I have been talking and we were discussing making everyone's due date the first of the month. not sure how everyone feels about that, but I think it would be a good thing overall

We don't have any female contributors to our rapidly approaching "Contraception Month". Is this a concern?

38 messages moved from Christianity

I don't know of any female contributors to the site either. :-( (There is one very active Jewish lady on BH, which pleases me a good deal.)

@JonEricson a mild one.
it was recently pointed out that the republicans lost a lot of credibility when their entire panel on the subject was male.
it would be good to get a female voice. not sure how to solicit that
(I'd even prefer 2, one pro one con)
I guess we can ask on meta :)

Q: Wanted: Female contributor for Eschewmenical

wax eagleWe are looking for a female contributor or two to help us give a different perspective on our new Christianity.SE blog. This month's topic is contraception and we have quickly realized that all of our contributors are male. This seems like an incomplete treatment of the issue of contraception a...

please edit as you see fit (again its not my blog)

@waxeagle Looks good. Thanks for doing the legwork on not-your-blog. ;-)

@JonEricson lol just want to emphasize that :). A lot because you guys (particularly peter) have been the driving force for this thing. I'm just here to facilitate :)

9:18 PM
Admittedly, that's actually a concern I have for this site in general. We are dispersed geographically pretty well, but we're all white males.
I'll admit my ulterior motive on asking the "Lift Every Voice" question was to try to flush out any African voices on the site
It would be great to have to some other voices here...

@AffableGeek We have an equally important (though currently not urgent) issue with "Church Month" in May.
@AffableGeek I'm reading Piper's latest book on the sin of racism and I'm convicted I have a permanent blind spot there. :-(

9:41 PM
Same here, which is why I wanted I try to raise those voices to the fore...

@waxeagle Haven't blogged for SE before, my email is valid. You can use my display name. I made an account on blogoverflow when Rebecca was putting it up (not that it got me anywhere)
RE: women, I only remember two women ever asking questions on the site to begin with. I could ask my wife, she's Catholic too, but she usually has a counterpoint for everything I can think of.
But as far as "contraception month" is concerned, we're keeping it in the family right? I mean, Jon's post'll set the tone and it's very family oriented, not talking about contraception in general. So, that ought to negate at least 80% of the feminist argument since one would hope that familial contraception would be a joint venture.
That's probably even a controversial opinion. But I think it's illegal for men to get vasectomies without the consent of their wives. I'm just saying, even though it's obviously women getting pregnant, we don't just have to talk about contraception as a female thing.

@PeterTurner Furthermore, we won't all be presenting the same point of view. I think if four men blogged our agreement on the subject, criticism is probably justifiable. But if we can at least provide different perspectives, we can at least get the conversation started.
Hopefully that will encourage others to join in.
@AffableGeek Are we dispersed geographically? It looks like all the blog contributors are from the United States.
And we're all programmers. Sheesh, there might be less diversity here than I thought.

10:05 PM
@BruceAlderman Well, if we hit enough keywords, we can probably expect a visit from NARAL. I'm not sure if I'm going to be only hard-line anti-contraceptive blogger, so maybe not.
@BruceAlderman I think we can use that to our advantage, it's like a thought experiment with a controlled for gender, nationality and job preference. The only difference is our denomination.

10:25 PM
@PeterTurner Do you mean that since I sidestep the issue of contraceptives for singles, we won't get as many objections? I'm not so sure since secular society seems to view premarital sex as a right, not a sin.
However, I think a) trying to find female voices and b) being honest if we don't find any will go a long way. We might also encourage dissenting voices to make contributions somehow...
