Q: What are the essential differences between BSD and MIT licences?

G.RassovskyThere are many articles out there which cover the topic in length and breadth but so far I haven't found a nice concise answer to the question. What are the most important differences between the BSD and MIT license and in what way do their intended use specifically differ?

Doesn't really look like a license-compatibility question to me...

I agree, and would agree to editing that out
maybe create a license-comparison tag?
we have a few posts that that would be relevant for
oh, I see it was recently edited in
@Zizouz212 what was the rationale on that?
and how do you stand on replacing that?

Q: should [tag:copyleft] and [tag:share-alike] be synonyms?

MartijnBoth copyleft and share-alike have the same characteristics. Share-alike is obviously also the name of a CC license component. Reading the tag wiki, it seems they refer to the same thing. Should they be synonyms? If so, should there by any other tags rolled in to it? What should be the 'primar...

We've been mentioned in the SE Podcast!

oh, cool
your answer on the copyleft meta post was exactly what I was thinking by the way
around what time is the site mentioned?

Right near the end, like 1-2 minutes before they cut

is that Joel Spolsky by the way?

One of 'em is. I still don't know which.

I wonder what he has to say these days
the one who looks like him probably :D

Aye, makes sense if you know what he looks like, or can be bothered to look it up :)

when I was a wee programming larva, I used to eat his stuff up
I considered his blog required reading

Heh. I now... don't read any programming blogs. I should probably do that.

you could. If you keep an eye on hacker news and the programming reddit, most stuff that you should read comes by
(and a whole lot of stuff that you shouldn't read as well, but such is life)

Good good
sticks eyes on websites

news.ycombinator.com <- hacker news
they usually have a lot of overlap
and by all means ignore all comments and discussions. They're either full of shit, or full of themselves
which might actually be the same thing

Who knows

I never got a higher education, so for me that stuff was my school
