@Izzy Luckily, It doesn't know how to cope with them. Shame - I woulda loved to be playing a Rouge-like DOOM out and about.

hi
I want to delete a symlink in /sbin/ but everytime I restart, it reappears!

Hi @Anwar :)
You will need to remount your / partition as readwrite. Also, most Android devices use a ramdisk for the root partition
what model device are you using?

I remounted and already deleted

can you show the output of mount?

I'm using Sony Sola (an old phone) with SlimROM custom rom
rootfs on / type rootfs (ro,relatime)
tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,relatime,mode=755)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,relatime,mode=600)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,relatime)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,relatime)
none on /acct type cgroup (rw,relatime, cpuacct)
none on /sys/fs/cgroup type tmpfs (rw,relatime,mode=750,gid=1000)
none on /sys/fs/cgroup/memory type cgroup (rw,relatime, memory)
tmpfs on /mnt/asec type tmpfs (rw,relatime,mode=755,gid=1000)
tmpfs on /mnt/obb type tmpfs (rw,relatime,mode=755,gid=1000)
@MarkYisri here^

hmm, what is this symlink you want gone?

1:05 PM
I remounted / and deleted the symlink which was swapon to a busybox insallation.

and it comes back ?

which was also in /sbin/ directory.
yes, came back after reboot. twice

hmm, I don't know why it does that !! I'm researching now

I love the color of this chat room <3
@MarkYisri thanks :)

I'd post this as a question on AE in the meantime

1:08 PM
Ok, doing...

@Izzy know that bounty I was talking about? The guy never awarded it to anyone !

you can give Root Explorer/Total Commander a try. — Mark Yisri 11 secs ago

Why should it succeed in doing so?

I just thought of trying it because I've used it before and sometimes works better than terminal.

1:16 PM
ok. just done it. rebooting...

If that doesn't work, you're going to have some problems.
Because from this latest research, Android devices have boot.img, system.img, userdata.img, etc.

what kind of problems?

boot.img contains the root file system (but not the /system folder, which is in system.img)
Therefore removing something while Android is running will do nothing

It seems there is two busybox in my system. 1 in /sbin another in /system/xbin
hmm.... Can i remove it from recovery?

You would have to find an upgrade image or extract the boot.img from your device, then modify the sbin folder, then adb or fastboot it back on.
something like what XDA does over here:
@Anwar read my answer.

1:27 PM
oops rebooted my pc while trying to reboot android
Thanks for the answer. I kept that symlink and instead change the call to explicitly call another swapon in /system/bin/swapon in the init script file.

@Anwar is it going to be accepted?

@MarkYisri I'll do it if I don't get any good answer within a reasonable time. Upped for now :)
Please ping me if I forget. I tend to forget things too easily these days :)

okay

I was trying to use a swap file. Tried it in external sd card but didn't work well. now I put it in cache partition.
Don't know if it is good practice. do you know anything?

Umm, that sounds like swap on flash!! Not a good idea

1:37 PM
@MarkYisri That happens. Usually the system the awards 50% of it automatically, if there was an answer posted after the bounty was established, and that answer was accepted, or it was the most upvoted answer.

better to do sd card
there was no most upvoted answer @Izzy
what a waste of 50 rep

@MarkYisri bad luck. And whether it was a waste, is up to the bounty provider: maybe all he wanted was another answer, and it was OK with him/her that way.
As I've already told you, don't get obsessed with bounties. It's nice to get them awarded, but disappointment might hurt :)

@MarkYisri you meant sdcard? why not actually?

@MarkYisri I see you also answer non-bountied questions :) Just upvoted one. Good pointer with the boot image :)

@MarkYisri which question you were referring to?

1:47 PM
@Anwar this question:

A: Install OpenGApps in Android Studio Emulator (Marshmallow)

Mark YisriI had the exact same problem before. I solved it by adding this simple option and running the emulator through the command line: Note: you may need to adjust the slashes and .exe part if you use Linux, but the command args are the same. <PATH_TO_EMULATOR>\emulator.exe -avd <YOUR_AVD> -parti...

You shouldn't swap on flash because if flash wears out, it can't be written and your phone will be useless due to it's read-only nature. It will probably give you a thousand errors about writing

hmm.... So my only option is sdcard?

You can do flash... but I really wouldn't recommend it !

Ok. Thank you.

this kind of junk gets me annoyed:

I don't have 125 rep to DV it :)

1:55 PM
now you do :)

yeah!
DV + Flag

2:07 PM
Yupp. I'm not sure to close it OT (it's not directly an Android thing, but closing as "Android independent" might raise eyebrows as Remix is Android). AskUbuntu doesn't want it either.
OK, closed.

Q: privacy features of Maru OS (mixes a custom ROM with a dockable Debian desktop) vs. stock Android

Fyodor GlebovI am very much interested in Maru OS. I consider buying a Nexus 5 because of this project. Maru makes personal computing more context-aware by giving you the best interface for your environment. That means when you're on the go, Maru is your phone; when you're at your desk, Maru is your d...

Android-independent ??

@MarkYisri I'd say opinion-based (he's asking for it be compared to stock)

10:10 PM
Maru is, AFAIK, a kind of "custom ROM", so it's not Android independent at least. I saw that one already, and decided not to take any action.
@MarkYisri Accepted. Do you need a postal address now? :D

10:22 PM
@Izzy Nah, he'll bend space and time to replace you front door with a gold bar.

@DanBrown No good that. Leaves a big gap – unless the size of the bar fits exactly. And even then, it only attracts criminals. He'd better replace an empty space inside my flat instead :)

@Izzy Ah, but s the rules! An object has to replaced with a solid gold equivalent! Its Midas touch rules.

@DanBrown OK then. How about my trash bin? Not asking about the bathroom, I don't wand all shit converted #D

@Izzy Ah, would be bad lol.
Barroom it is then! On another note, I hate Google Notes.
Uploaded a rough draft of some stuff today, any entire notes have been wiped!

@DanBrown Yeah, it might break the ceramics...

10:32 PM
@Izzy It won't just break them, It'll turn the flat into a sewer!

=:-0

That might cause issues outside the flat though

In the basement especially... Oh, we better stop that #D

OK, maybe magically transforming something into gold is not a great idea.
