@Izzy Bad day?
That depends on the Android version installed, and whether the device is rooted and has a custom recovery, to begin with. Also important: what and how many apps you've installed, and how you configured it. Wait: All wrong? ALL? Oh. Guess in that case it's an Android-independent phone question, and expressly off-topic here (see our help center). — Izzy 4 hours ago

@DanHulme Yupp. A bit frustrated about Q/A quality (combination SR and here). Was I too harsh? Should I remove that? Bang, if people could at least read the help/on-topic before posting. Takes a minute or two...
And now I even got kicket out from chat ("you must be logged in to post"). Yuck.
But then, I'm surprised by some patience on both ends. Would give me a heads-up if he does as recommended :)

@Izzy I think you might have taken the sarcasm a teensy bit far this time

OK, got a link to that?
I start calming down :)

the "4 hours ago" is a link

@DanHulme Ah, right – I always forget that. // No comment there (anymore). My VTC still stands :)

I'm kinda on the fence about it, but I agree that electronics.SE would clearly be a better place for it
perhaps I'll VTC when I get up in the morning
why aren't you in bed yet? it is gone 2 o'clock on the continent

@DanHulme I wasn't sure which stack, but that was my guess as well.
@DanHulme On my way. Just had to check something :)
Btw: How did you quote the comment here to chat, keeping the link intact?
Wait, I have a guess...
You can't say "your files are completely safe," given Dropbox's poor security record. This is the company that once set up the site so that any password would work to log into any account. — Dan Hulme 10 mins ago
Ah :)
And Ouch! They really did that?
I know why I wouldn't trust them with sensitive data (though I have an account there meanwhile, just for "checking it"). But that even shocks me!

1:16 AM
@Izzy yeah
it was a few years ago, before anyone had heard of them
they set up PAM wrong on their authentication server

@DanHulme Oy. OK, shit happens. At least they didn't so on purpose. And they weren't public (or were they?)

@Izzy yes, they were public

Uh-oh...

it was before they'd started the "get 50GB free if you have this phone" stuff, that's all

Yuck...
OK, I'll leave the "public zone" now for my private horizontal place...
Good night (or my head falls off)...
See ya all tomorrow :)

Q: Updating our help-center phrasing?

IzzyI think our help-center need some minor phrasing updates. Checking e.g. the "on-topic" page: Android-independent phone questions, such as "Does Carrier X have prepaid plans?" (emphasis mine), we should have "phone" replaced by "device" in most cases. Tablets are around for quite a whi...

Q: Do not Disturb mode with some specials on android

TobiI am looking fo a "Do not Disturb"-Mode Application (like on iOS) that does at least the following (on an unrooted phone) Minimum Features Switches Ringer and Notifications on Silent (disable Vibrate, Vol = 0) during a special time Lets Repeated calls Through (If anyone really wants to phone m...

heh, there's a stock app on my phone that vaguely does this

don't say that on the question, you'll make him jealous

Would that question be a candidate for migrating to the Software recommendation site (if it was out of beta)?

Downvote seems harsh, I know he's mentioned the word "application" but it is a very specific task he's looking for, and only a very slight change would be needed to make it a "I'm looking for a way to..."

He mentioned iOS... isn't that an automatic downvote ;)
(it wasn't me btw)

3:06 PM
It wasn't me either, but I thought the "Maximum Price of $5" at the end takes the biscuit
as for only a slight change being needed, it's such a shopping-list of requirements it could easily turn into several "how do I" questions
"I'm looking for an app that computes the time of sunrise, sets the alarm clock to that time automatically (but only on Monday to Thursday), and when the alarm goes off, plays La Marseillaise for exactly 47 seconds while displaying a picture of Nicolas Sarkozy in the nude, and then emails the BBC a rude comment to read out on the breakfast news. But only if I'm on Wi-Fi. Is there an app that does this?"

@bmdixon Looks like. // investigating
@bmdixon Yes, definitly. Fits all criteria we defined so far. Well, mentioning the Android version would not hurt, but apart from that, I'd say it would be welcome.
Need to check back when we're leaving closed beta. Discussion was to prolong CB for additional 1-2 weeks, to get our "rules" clear (things like "are requests for video games off-topic" and the like)
@GAThrawn Definitly.
Edited the Q and voted for re-open. Should be a good match now. And yes, Tasker of course: even meets the "$5" (depending on whether its US$ or Zimbabwe $, of course).
@DanHulme Even made that fit with my edit (at least I hope so)
@DanHulme LOL But I prefer a variant with a different tune and actor. Could you make that configurable, please? #D

@Izzy not for $5

4:07 PM
@DanHulme Ooooh. Not even for a few 5* ratings on Play? Ooops, wait, I've got to take that back (no G+ account)...

but this is my point
even if the question didn't mention an app, it'd still be incredibly specific
the best answer is going to be "solve this part this way, and this part this other way, and that part a different way"

4:52 PM
@DanHulme Why? All the must-haves can be realized with Tasker, as far as I can see.
Ah. And the nice-to-haves as well.
Might need multiple profiles, though. A little tricky to set up as well.
