6:24 PM
@Izzy did you see the latest update to my answer on AU?

6:53 PM
@DanHulme No -- unfortunately one gets not noticed on edits. Checking now...
@DanHulme Checked -- does not work for me. On pressing the "end" key, the cursor goes to the end of the string in the urlbar, but the drop-down contents remain unchanged :(
Would have wondered otherwise where the entries where hidden, as I already deleted all related history, and have no bookmarks for that site...

1 hour later…
7:57 PM
@DanHulme I added my own answer. Got tired of the "trial-and-fail", and kicked the bullshit directly out of places.sqlite :D

8:10 PM
fine, but I'm going to update my answer again now
done

8:29 PM
Wait... checking

if you could watch me doing it I'm sure we'd have solved it really quickly; I just need to describe it in more detail

Naah, that didn't do for me either, sorry. But still a good answer, and should be tried before my more technical approach. Maybe I should add a remark that deleting the wrong entries might cause corruption? One could kill bookmark relations and the like by "operating directly at the heart".

well, it's so effective for me I'm running out of things to test it on

9:20 PM
LOL Are you saying you just do the "Chuck Norris Roundhouse-Kick Cleanup"? Make sure to check the URL-to-be-cleaned with the search-box in the history first, to not accidentally wipe existing entries from bookmarks or the like. First clear it everywhere else, the SQLite file is the last place then (if something remained there).
Mh, with a 30MB SQLite file I should also invite friend Chuck...

I've not touched the history or the SQLite db.
And deleting things from the suggestion list can't remove bookmarks.

Oh. No, that for sure not. So that's what you're just doing?
Well, in that case, no danger I can see :)

I'm only deleting from the suggestion list.

And for you that works? Funny. When I tested, it was rather 50:50. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it failed. No pattern as far as I can tell.
Oh look, a new kitten to your left, @DanHulme !
Two kitten, a ferret, and me :)
Oh yeah, sometimes I really miss my fraggles... (I had a bunch of ferrets once)

It might not seem to have the right effect when there's more than one relevant history item, but only one shows up in the list (because there are other things in the list)
That's why you want it to suggest based on the whole domain name, so you don't get those other websites getting in the list.

9:42 PM
In my case, it was only a single entry. But it didn't show up in history or bookmarks, just in the moz_places table.

10:11 PM
yes, by "list" I mean the autocomplete list
