Q: Future Space Opportunities for a Mathematician

Euler_SalterI don't know if this question should be asked here or on "Mathematics Educators", however I'll post it here for the moment. I've just finished my first year of Mathematics and I do really like maths. I like solving problems, in different way. I also enjoy pure maths, but nothing special. What I ...

Q: Is it normal to feel like I bought my way into graduate school after being rejected and then accepted when I was awarded an external fellowship?

user3760593I initially got rejected to the two schools I had applied to (horrible pGRE scores, lack luster GRE scores, and only did research at my undergraduate institute), but then I got an NSF fellowship, and was almost immediately accepted into those schools. I feel a little hurt by the whole acceptance...

I know it's probably accurate, but it amuses me to hear that admissions committee's perceptions of a candidate change when they hear the candidate got an NSF fellowship. However, it's highly upvoted and many people have contributed answers or comments so I assume I've probably just misunderstood the local SE policy. Could someone point m...

Q: What is the proper way to ask a "find the domain" question?

Paul WrightA function is not really a function unless it's defined everywhere on its domain. So consider these three questions: Let $f: \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ be the square root function $f(x) = \sqrt{x}$. What is its domain? Let $f: [0, \infty) \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ be the square root funct...

Hi everyone!

@Quant This room is kind of asynchronous - people hop in and out. So if there's something you want to discuss, best to just put it out there. People who have something to say will chime in on what you've written as they come by.
