Why is it bad to keep these closed questions around, if they have accepted answers?
I mean, we didn't like the question, but people found the answer useful... and I don't see how they constitute serious clutter or anything

Apparently some users who really should know better are confused about the way Stack Overflow works. I take this as a sweeping indictment of our current FAQ (both official and unofficial) and I will work to correct this situation — starting with this blog post.

Ideally the closed questions with good answers would be edited and reopened. I thought is that bad questions that cannot be reopened act like broken windows and attract other bad questions.

If a question is really non-compliant with the network's current vision, it should be placed in a historical lock, if we can use that feature like SO does. I highly doubt people comb through Academia, find all the bad questions, and say "Oh, I'll just ask this bad question on my own!"
