I asked a question
picture on the academic page of a PhD candidate seeking postdoc
and it got many downvotes soon, without any comment.
I don't know the reason.
Is my question off-topic on Academic Exchange?
While arXiv is great, it covers only topics in physics, mathematics and computer science.
Are there any good preprint storage places for other scientific disciplines?
@StrongBad Why? It’s not the bad kind of shopping, it’s not too broad (as there are only few such services) and given that it only asks for existence also not opinion-based.
@Wrzlprmft I think of "good preprint storage places" as asking for an opinion. There are currently 10 answers, some of which have multiple services, which too me is too many.
The answers also seem to be little more than "link only".
@Wrzlprmft To an extent, but also curiosity about what types of questions we want on AC.SE. If I had a regular close vote, the question would end up in the review queue, but I think chat/meta are better places to discuss things.
@StrongBad @Wrzlprmft I like the idea of conversion to community wiki. This is useful and durable information and will tend to produce a short(ish) and informative list rather than a long and uninformative one.
I detected that somebody serially downvoted my random answers on Academia.SE (see picture below). However, no action occurred from SE software, which supposedly detects and reverses such hostile actions (in addition to punishing the attacker). What should be my next steps?
In response to this comment which incorrectly describes my question, I have now changed How can a reader effectively discern changes in a newer edition of the same book? to clarify that I am asking in general, for books that are not available computerised.
Is my question on topic now?
deleted my answer - I will not tolerate being lectured and talked down to by some one who seems to think that they are better than everyone else. (@ChrisWhite)
