This is a bit related to undergrad so I wasnt sure to post it, but am looking for advice. I am a full time researcher at a research institute, we are part of a university, but the institute does not have students, just researchers. I mostly have assistant researchers and interns that are undergrad. I am thinking of bringing on a final year highschool student who is really promising and has been winning some awards.
They are interested in me writing a recommendation letter (to US schools, but we are outside US). Is this advisable?

@user1938107 this seems like a perfectly reasonable question to ask on the main site.

@StrongBad I disagree... it seems to essentially be a question about undergrad admissions

@ff524 or @Strongbad Can "community" or a moderator award the bounty offered for a question?
I'm interested because there's a bounty for this question which I attempted to answer.
I think my answer is useful, and there aren't any other contenders in this case.
Not the huge deal either way, but I thought I'd ask about it.

@dionys if it meets the criteria for automatic awarding, I believe you would get half the bounty amount

Q: How does the bounty system work?

A. Rex What is a bounty? What is the "Featured" tab on the homepage? How can I search for questions that have a bounty attached? How do I start a bounty? When can I start a bounty? How long is the bounty period? How do I award a bounty? Can I award a bounty to my own answer? Can I award a bounty to an ...

(See meta post above for details of automatic awarding)

@ff524 I thought user1938107 was writing the recommendation and possibly hiring the person. I would think a professor who is thinking of hiring a high school student who wants to study abroad is on topic.

@jakebeal Per your meta concern about chat alerts, the new message alert should trigger for this.

@Compass and so it does... It would be nice if it were easier to keep a nonspecific ear to chat, though
