Q: Why they make the pitch longer?

danielWhy is the pitch made longer than the playing area, which is 22 yards? This will only consume the time to make the pitch and to do rolling.So why they do it? You can see pictures:-

user46190
@infinitesimal if you wanna look at it that way :D toward the end of that lynch interview, he addresses deion sanders as boss.

user46190
> He is 37 and in his 15th season, and he wants to play into his 40s. Like 45. Like 48. si.com/nfl/2014/12/10/…

gonna be a great game

user46190
@waxeagle now, what are your plans for today?

user46190
@infinitesimal i'm getting excited. tons of ppl i know aren't interested...and i'm like, if you want good football, this game will bring it. def better than last year.

@edmastermind29 just here so I won't get fined

user46190
@waxeagle who do you think will win the super bowl?

3:25 PM
however doesn't get fined :D

@edmastermind29 just here so I won't get fined

user46190

seriously, discipline wins championships

@edmastermind29 that's from last year (still here so I won't get fined)

user46190
@waxeagle i know. and i think he said that last year too...but made an attempt to do the interview with michael robinson answering his questions

3:28 PM
the hawks' D has discipline

user46190

user46190
@infinitesimal agreed. however, if anyone is built to overcome "defense wins championships," it may be the patriots. coulda been the packers...but their game was over after 55 minutes.

huge money is riding on NE to make the spread swing by 3 points :O
who knows what the common business interests are going to bet on come game time :-/
his fine is a drop in the bucket

exactly^

user46190
BenJarvus Green-Ellis never fumbled as a Patriot...but when he went to Cincy... pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GreeBe00.htm

user46190
Still, the number of carries he got and his fumble rate is really good, so it may just be dumb luck more than anything

Belicheater admitted it!
cost him $500,000

user46190
@infinitesimal didnt you know? it was a "misinterpretation" of the rules? :P

-_-
just like the tuck rule

user46190
3:39 PM
@infinitesimal exactly. i forget who said it, but he called it an abomination of the rule...and boy, do i agree with that.

I still stick with the hawks -2 = Opening line
but betting NE -1 would be a good way to play both sides };-)
that way is sea wins by 1 you win all bets

user46190
@infinitesimal you don't wanna swing both ways, do ya?

user46190
@infinitesimal thanks for the info

just taking about "common business" interests

> Online sportsbook Sportsbook.com had a prop bet on whether Lynch would get fined for media day. The odds of that happening were set at 8-to-1, but the sportsbook lowered odds significantly after bets came in heavy for Lynch to get docked.
Sounds like easy money

yes

user46190
@MichaelMyers ha!

@edmastermind29 not his first time on that count either

user46190
5:39 PM
@waxeagle doesn't surprise me.

then again, selling that stuff is money in his pocket. He's probably happy to get fined for it

user46190
wasn't it cam newton that got docked for wearing under armour although its all over the place in the nfl?

user46190
@waxeagle nothing like free advertising

@edmastermind29 yeah, they have to hide the logos though

user46190
@waxeagle this looks pretty visible...and without any further research, i assume this was taken during the past season

5:44 PM
confused, what am I looking at?

user46190

@edmastermind29 interesting.
there are lots of possibilities there (including the NFL not having an official glove partnership)
they only crack down if it competes with one of their official marketing partners

user46190
@waxeagle hmm....so nike gets the uniform, new era gets the hat...

user46190
who are the helmet providers? because that's where cam got docked.

is it still riddel?

user46190
5:50 PM
@waxeagle i have only seen team logos where the brand was usually located lately.

it was until recently and now they may not have one (players have been able to wear their own for a while now, but could only display logo if riddell)
that partnership ended in 2013,
which is when Cam's fine was
so even covering them up wasn't enough, can't have it on the helmet at all

user46190
@waxeagle ahh...good find

but it's just the helmet

6:05 PM
@edmastermind29 Wow.. That's just.. wow.

user46190
@Seth here's an interesting rebuttal to that article, but we all know by now that 87% of all statistics are made up

6:21 PM
> For all the talk of West Coast offenses, the invention of the pro formation, the wildcat, 5-wide sets, the rise of the pass-catching tight-end, Bill Walsh, the Greatest Show On Turf, and the general recognition that passing, passing and more passing is the best way to score in football, half the improvement in scoring in the past 50-plus years of NFL history has come solely from field-goal kickers kicking more accurately.
Also, the NYT 4th Down Bot frequently gets it wrong because kicking has improved so much and it's using data from a few years ago

that's actually a fairly compelling argument to make the uprights a bit smaller

@edmastermind29 Cool, I'll take a look.
