look for more about this in the upcoming weeks, months and years. with 6 current players on the suit the class can now be certified for all current and former NCAA players
(the last class certification hearing was held because the judge told the plaintiffs they needed to have current players in the suit in order to include them in the class)

user46190
@waxeagle and to think this could be a shattering case...

@edmastermind29 if it gets certified as a class the class could be several thousand student athletes. It certainly has the potential to destroy the NCAA.
btw, NCAA has cancelled it's contract with EA for CFB games

user46190
@waxeagle so no NCAA Football 15 atm?

user46190
@waxeagle if it does...wow, just wow.

@edmastermind29 there will be a "College Football 15" just not "NCAA College Football 15"

user46190
1:08 PM
@waxeagle Right...would the teams be made up too? Is that included in the suit?

that article from SI illustrates how messed up college sports really are right now. I can't start my own business if I'm a college athlete, I can't write a book in my own name...
@edmastermind29 team names would be made up in an unendorsed game (similar to how in the 90's the MLBPA and MLB endorsed different games)
the suit is all players at this point, team names would be the trademarks/copyright of the colleges

user46190
@waxeagle That's insane.

user46190
@waxeagle yeah. also like the football 2k series after the EA exclusive license deal...

I find it interesting that effectively, if this suit does kill the NCAA, a video game took it down
(the suit covers way more than the game, but that's how O'bannon noticed and got the suit going)

user46190
@waxeagle video game killed the college star

user46190
1:13 PM
@waxeagle was gonna ask, how did it all start? i've heard bits and pieces...

user46190
@waxeagle familiar with Tyrone Prothro? WR Alabama mid-2000s?

@edmastermind29 the story I've heard (and this is from O'Bannon) is that he was watching his grandkids play the NCAA basketball game and they unlocked the "UCLA legends team" or some such, and he saw his likeness, name not attached, but his face, his game, etc and realized that he'd been had
@edmastermind29 no

user46190
@waxeagle promising future in the NFL, broke his leg, couldn't make a return....so he's now a bank teller. he had an amazing play during his career that is shown over and over again when they have the Pontiac(?) spectacular play of the game...and he doesn't get a dime for that.

user46190
@waxeagle dang, so almost by sheer luck

@edmastermind29 yeah, this suit was inevitable (as is a suit on the NFL and NBA's age restrictions, can't wait for that one), but that's how we got here

user46190
1:19 PM
@waxeagle yup. what about the age restrictions?

@edmastermind29 it's ageism in a sense. And there isn't much legal footing for denying employment to a group of young men just because of their age.
it's the kind of thing that doesn't come up much but is occasionally hinted at in the media (specially with rabble rousers like Jeff Passan).

user46190
@waxeagle yea...let alone the legal loopholes that are/were already present

yeah, anyways, when sports and the courts mix the results are rarely pleasant by always interesting.
Part of the intrigue is that these are organizations that are exempted from anti-trust regulation by congress and have special and odd legal standing anyways. Which means any time you get into a lawsuit the possibility of the entire league collapsing if the judge makes a sweeping ruling is actually a possibility
But because collapse is in no ones best interest, at least on the pro side, generally things are argued and decided on very narrow lines

user46190
@waxeagle just don't slap your attorney on the butt after an agreement has been made

lol

This was an amazing read: mandatory.com/2013/06/17/…

@edmastermind29 lol, that's been on my TV every night this week #parentofpreschoolerproblems

user46190
@waxeagle its not that great of a movie, but it was amazing when i was a kid.

user46190
"He set Foghorn Leghorn on fire! This isn't just a foul or call for ejection, this is attempted murder. Do you remember that game where Ray Allen was guarding Tim Hardaway and Allen got that big steal by burning Hardaway alive? Of course you don't because he would be in jail!"

user46190
^^I was losing it here.

@edmastermind29 no it's kinda terrible, but at the same time, it's really fun

user46190
5:22 PM
@waxeagle nostalgia

user46190
@waxeagle ever watch Juwanna Mann?

@edmastermind29 nope
btw the steriods subtext in spacejam is really actually quite interesting to me. I don't think they would be able to do that in a kids movie anymore

user46190
@waxeagle stupid basketball movie, but hilarious movie at the same time.

user46190
@waxeagle they would if it were baseball or cycling ba dum tss

user46190
"There's one of two options here. Either Bugs is a complete idiot and could be extremely muscular whenever he wants, but instead chooses to look like a wet sock, or he just took an illegal performance enhancing drug!"

5:34 PM
> Is he on the roster? No. Basically, the former Ghostbuster just found a jersey, wandered onto the court, and was allowed to play. Does anyone care about the heritage and respect of the game? NBA Jam had more rules than this.

user46190
@waxeagle What they didn't mention was that they were reviewing a 3 when the (illegal) substitution took place and had the ToonSquad won, the Monstars could have appealed and won.

5:49 PM
@edmastermind29 lol
