A: D-Link DWA 127 Rev. B1 not working

DagumarI have compiled the ratek driver http://cdn-cw.mediatek.com/Downloads/linux/2010_0709_RT2870_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1.tar.bz2 . It throws two errors but they could be corrected by replacing: "current_fsuid()" by "current_fsuid().val" "current_fsgid()" by "current_fsgid().val" Then: make clean ...

Can you write a better answer, that everyone can follow?

No because it's not working. Now I get rt28xx initialized fail error in dmesg. If I can solve this I will rewrite the solution.

You probably need to blacklist rt2800usb. echo "blacklist rt2800usb" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-rt2800usb.conf
And give output of ` modprobe -c | grep -i 2001 | grep -i 3d04`

modprobe -c | grep -i 2001 | grep -i 3d04 : install rt2870sta modprobe --ignore-install rt2870sta; /bin/echo 2001 3d04 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870/new_id

3:35 PM
Will you finally give output of the command it previous comment? I asked 2 times already. But you keep posting that command.

This is the output of modprobe -c .... install rt2870sta modprobe --ignore-install rt2870sta; /bin/echo 2001 3d04 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870/new_id

It can't be
Post here output of
modprobe -c | grep -i 2001 | grep -i 3d04
If this is it, then you did all wrong
That should not be there

3:56 PM
yes, this must be a previous attempt to work out this issue
I get rid of this and now the output of modprobe -c | grep -i 2001 | grep -i 3d04 is empty

So, let's try to start it a normal way

Ok!

Unplug the dongle
Run
sudo modprobe rt2870sta

Done

Did it give any output?

3:58 PM
no

good
run
echo "2001 3d04" | sudo tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2800usb/new_id
echo "2001 3d04" | sudo tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870sta/new_id
Only seconf
second

/sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870sta <- it doesn't exist
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870sta does exist
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870 does exist (sorry)

so, was there an error or not?

echo "2001 3d04" | sudo tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870sta/new_id -> it throws an error: /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870sta doesn't exist

does or does NOT?

4:02 PM
does NOT

hold on
give output of
lsmod | grep rt28

rt2870sta 626184 0

ls /sys/bus/usb/drivers/

hub rt2870 usb usbfs usbhid usb-storage

OK
echo "2001 3d04" | sudo tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870/new_id

4:05 PM
done

modprobe -c | grep -i 2001 | grep -i 3d04

empty

Plugin the dongle
and again
modprobe -c | grep -i 2001 | grep -i 3d04

plugged in, run
empty

Hm...hold on
dmesg | tail

4:08 PM
ERROR!! NicLoadFirmware failed status [0x000000001]
rt28xx initialized fail
Nicloadfirmware: MCU is not ready

Try to download firmware form Mediatek and put it to /lib/firmware
Maybe it is newer
And also blacklist
blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2800lib
blacklist rt2x00usb
blacklist rt2x00lib

blacklist done

Reboot and try again
How did you blacklist?

I have put them in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

correct
Then reboot and do
sudo modprobe rt2870sta
Then
echo "2001 3d04" | sudo tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2870/new_id
Then plugin dongle and
dmesg | tail
And

4:14 PM
rebooting

modinfo rt2870sta | grep 3d04

same previous output

Nothing?

modinfo rt2870sta | grep 3d04 -> empty result

Hold on
Maybe we install a wrong driver

4:27 PM
xD

I an trying to find it. I lost Windows driver

I saw, in the drivers' CD a rt2870.inf driver

Are you sure?
I saw it too. But why it does not work
But was there any other inf?

let me check

4:34 PM
net28u.inf for win7 x86

no, then it should be rt2870
And it works with 3.13
I suggest doing one good thing
go to the driver source

Go out for a beer
xD
What do I need to check in driver source?

find common/rtusb_dev_id.c
and add there
{USB_DEVICE(0x2001,0x3d04)},
Then compile it with
make clean
make
sudo make install
You will find where to add
Among others
It will add VID and PID there. So no need to echo it.
Then reboot and do
sudo modprobe rt2870sta

working...

5:07 PM
now the alias is registered
when modprobe -c | grep -i 2001 | grep -i 3d04
alias usb:v2001:p3d04d*dc ...
I have plug in the dongle
dmesg is giving the same error

Then try to download and replace firmware
and compare old and new files
are they same?
At Mediatek there is a firmware also
it is rt2870.bin
Should be placed to /lib/firmware
And also try
ifup ra0
I found rt2870 in source
It looks like the current in Ubuntu is newer

same result

ra0 is shown?
And also do
sudo depmod -a
