Hi, I haven't used this before. Maybe it doesn't matter if the timing isn't great, can still leave messages.
Thanks for your help with fixing my graphic issues, it's all working a great deal better now. In the past when I had issues with the nouveau driver (a lot of issues, often), with various things happening with the screen freezing at login or behaving erratically in terms of the way it displayed. So I tried nvidia-346, but that had just as many issues.
As I mentioned in a comment, if you change the answer your provided to just being about installing nvidia-304 with updates then I can tick that, as that's what helped. and mention how you knew it was the right one for me, to help others. Or if you can't edit it maybe you can delete it and right a new one.
At present the nvidia issues are very minor, and I'm kind of reluctant to try changing the settings more at present cos it's all working. It'd be good if I could find some very simple nvidia settings instructions that relate to Xfce, as parts of the settings screen are blacked out and some parts become visible when I move the mouse around. And I don't understand most of the terms, such as "X screen 0".
Currently my external monitor is shown as to the left of my laptop, which is incorrect. My laptop screen is listed as disabled (otherwise it seems to use metascreen and have things go off the edge of my monitor where I can't see it, as the laptop isn't to the right of my external screen... Am I making any sense? Can I put a screenshot here somehow? No worries at all if you don't want to spend time on this, you've helped me with the main issue, which is brilliant. Really cold here today.
