I don't think anyone has any issues with you getting the bounties. That being said, the "I'm taking my ball and leaving" is what's really got to stop. Everyone is going to view participating on the site differently. While you see it as a place of ambivalence, I see it as an evolving machine. Bear in mind that some of us have been putting in a consistent effort for a year and half, as time and careers have permitted, and while we may not have rocketed through the rep leagues, we have made an impact on the site. — Chuck Sherrington 2 mins ago

@WhyDoYouThinkThatIsTrue See my comment on your other answer, I could not comment again on the first one after it was deleted

Q: When a user deletes their account what happens to our rep?

Why Do You Think That Is TrueDue to two recent user accounts being deleted, I wanted to ask this question. I am sure this is on StackOverflow Meta, but thought it might be valuable to have here. When a user deletes their account what happens to our rep?

@H.Muster New socks?

@StevenJeuris Not me. Just thought that they somehow fit to the site recently...
Good morning, btw.

Morning!
Yeah I know ... at least it's not all drama. Some really good content got added in the process.

@H.Muster We haven't had any recent;y. I keep a close eye on it. They're easy to spot
All come from the same IP, and the socks are always low-rep throwaway accounts
We have a list in our mod room and in our mod tools of possible sockpuppets. I annotate the users when I see em

12:20 PM
@JoshGitlin And I totally ignore stuff like that, since @JoshGitlin is much better at it. :) @H.Muster I totally missed your reference to sock puppets there by the way, haha. :) I just thought you meant CogSci has been a bit 'crazy' as of late.

@StevenJeuris I think you spend too much time on Stack Exchange, give how the above is actually a literal sock puppet. To us mods now we hear the term sockpuppet and think about users not actual socks placed on one's hand :-p
Either that or you need more coffee ;-)

@JoshGitlin Coffee it is, and onwards to failing more students. :)
Hmm .. apparently not. Paper writing it is then.

@StevenJeuris Be gentle with them! Use a thin red pen when you draw those giant F marks :-p

@JoshGitlin I prefer the not being gentle, smack all their mistakes in their face approach. Much better way to learn.
And then of course be open to discussion. :)
Extensive feedback works better than 'being gentle'. :)

hahaha, gotcha :-)
so lots of red freehand circles. I don't know why you didn't do better on MSO @Steven!

12:26 PM
@JoshGitlin I did awesome on MSO. ;) I feel partly responsible for the revised close reasons. :)
Well at least it's one of the main points in which I mingled myself during the discussions.
Even got one of the first revisions pushed through.

@StevenJeuris Oh I know, and I know the discussions we had regarding MSO, I was just poking you :-p I love the new close reasons
Hey there @Ben

@JoshGitlin hello

@JoshGitlin Don't trust IPs. You just need two different devices to get around this "trap".

@H.Muster Oh I know it's more than that, but it's also more than just devices
Note that two devices behind the same router share an IP
If you have a specific concern please create a chat room with me and I'll make it private, or email me directly @H.Muster!

@JoshGitlin Exactly, only if they are behind the same router.

12:33 PM
IP may be pretty easy to get around if you know what you're doing, but that doesn't mean the majority of people still won't/won't know how to get around the IP thing

Yeah
Easiest way to get around having the same IP would be to use Tor, which I have seen also
@H.Muster I think I know what your concerns are and don't want to speak to them publicly, but I am fairly sure we don't have any sockpuppets at the moment

@JoshGitlin Nope, easiest way would be using a PC and a mobile phone.

Interesting ... grabs his phone

Personally I'd find tor a lot easier than typing on a phone :-)
@StevenJeuris make sure wifi is off otherwise I'll catch you ;-)
I have to step AFK shortly @H.Muster. Shoot me an email if you like and I'll respond in more detail
Or I can create a private chat and we can respond non-realtime (like comments on the site)
welcome @Beofett!

@JoshGitlin Hi!

12:41 PM
@JoshGitlin I am pretty sure that you know what or whom I am thinking about. It's probably not a common thing that someone awards all his rep to one and the same person before he/she quits.

@H.Muster It's not common, no, but Taal was not a sockpuppet
I need to step AFK now but I'll respond in more detail when I return

Have fun.

I'm looking to find out more about whether there's a drastic increase in people with autism, or whether the increased awareness/prevalence of the ASD diagnosis more strongly correlates to the improved diagnostic codes. However, since I haven't posted here before, I wanted to check for feedback in chat before asking, to make sure the question is appropriate

@Beofett It is.

@Beofett I think it's totally appropriate and from what I know from watching The Charlie Rose Brain Series the answer is: we're not sure. Might be an increase in detection or it might actually be occurring more.

12:45 PM
@StevenJeuris Excellent, thanks. I'll start drafting it, and I'm of course open to suggestions for improvement :)
@JoshGitlin I suspected that was probably the answer, but it would be good to see a collection of the data supporting the various possibilities

@Beofett Indeed. Seems like an interesting contribution. Looking forward to the writeup!

@Beofett Oh absolutely, I don't have nearly enough experience to answer, I'm looking forward to seeing what others say!
Going AFK now though, back later!

I've got to run in a few minutes, so if I don't get the question posted immediately, I'll finish it up later :)
and thanks both of you!

My question is posted, but I wasn't sure about some of the possible tags I was considering, so I left it just

@Beofett Great question/great motivation.
The only way I see you can improve it is by fully referencing your sources so if the links break it is still possible to know what you are referring to.

Thanks.
I would want to perhaps find better sources, then, since the ones I listed weren't particularly authoritative, but rather blog/articles that were rather light on details
I'll see if I can find the original CDC studies, and add some quotes from the other sources. Thanks for the feedback :)

@Beofett Blog articles are fine enough. You just have to show your motivation for asking your question. Better sources do make a better question, but definitely aren't necessary.

@StevenJeuris I've already found the CDC reports, and I'm working on an edit... I'm glad I looked it up, as it is interesting reading :)

A relative of mine recently commented that "there weren't all these kids with Autism when we were in school", and then suggested that our school systems were "giving kids autism". Rather than get into an argument with her, I thought it better to try and turn that into a valid SE question :)
