@JoshGitlin I'm interested for sure. I don't know if I have enough momentum to make an individual entry.
@ArtemKaznatcheev I agree, but something like "science that is backed up by mainstream sources" leaves things a bit ambiguous, but will get those who are inclined to included pertinent journal citations if necessary. It doesn't have to be a bibliography, but a work that leads other back through that field usually works.
@JoshGitlin Well, even the "personal experience" bit can be a bit dicey if placed in the wrong hands.
but not our main concern...

3 hours later…
10:51 AM
@ArtemKaznatcheev Wow, I'm not sure why that Mark is being so smug to me on A51. I know how the damned thing works
Hey @StevenJeuris

@jonsca Hiya!

How's it going?

Last weeks at work.
Slow ... with everything I do I'm having drawbacks ... but I'm getting there.
Motivation for this last project is long gone. :/
But in October I'll start as research assistant in Copenhagen! :)
At a wonderful project very much related to my thesis.

@StevenJeuris Nice!
Motivation is a bummer sometimes
At least you have something to look forward to now
Hey @H.Muster

@jonsca Hi jonsca

11:05 AM
All we need is @Mien and all of Western Europe is here

@jonsca Is she already back from vacation?

Yep
And seemingly recovered

Recovered from what?

Her trip, hehe

@jonsca Ah. Seems that @Mien is still in the age where you use the holidays to get exhausted and the rest of the year to recover from the holidays. It is the other way around if you get older...

11:16 AM
Seems like as you get older you spend the holidays getting exhausted and the rest of the year getting more exhausted ;)

@jonsca Ok, that's valid too.

Don't get old @StevenJeuris, that's the bottom line

11:36 AM
@jonsca I'm turning 26 soon. :-(

Eh, you've got 4-5 good years left ;)

@jonsca Hey! You mean 4-5 good years before he's Old Man Gitlin's age? ;-)

I was trying to avoid saying that explicitly, but sure. He'll be watching birds by then

Oh boy ... :-(
It's really a bad time to be single ... although I'm having fun. :)

@jonsca Cool. I sure as hell can't make an individual entry, I wouldn't know where to start

11:44 AM
I'm just still getting used to the fact my ex doesn't really know what she wants and I shouldn't expect an explanation from her. :)
By the way ... is the / 2 + 7 rule universal?

Ug. That's difficult!

For a socially acceptable suitable age in a relationship?
I'm soon 26 ... / 2 = 13 + 7 ... 20 should be my minimum age I'm aiming for.

I say f*&$ "socially acceptable", follow your heart :-)
Although I'd also say 20/21 should be a good minimum age period, LOL

@StevenJeuris Hmm, yeah, that does suck, but unless there's really something special there, forget her and never look back
@StevenJeuris Go with @Mien's age + 1, I hear women are less annoying then

lmao OUCH!

11:47 AM
@JoshGitlin I agree with you for once ;)

hahaha

Though if I were 26 and I met a really mature and interesting 19 year old woman, I wouldn't split hairs
If @H.Muster meets an interesting 19 year old woman, he asks her if she knows where his granddaughter is...
Damn he's gone

He's going to receive that and be so confused, LOL

Hehe
That's how folks often get at his age

LOL

11:51 AM
Ba-dum-tis
He'll love it

I agree with you @jonsca. I guess my point is, it's silly to say "Well, this person seems really nice but they're too old/too young, what will people think?"

@StevenJeuris Just be out there and meet lots of chicks. I wish someone had told me that a "few" years ago, LOL

Although if they're under 21 in the US, they can't drink, which is a bit of a bummer, lol

True

So if they're 19 they have to be really interesting ;-)
I.E. more interesting than beer
:-p

11:54 AM
That may be tough to come by

@jonsca Yes. Just be out there and have fun @Steven! We're only here for a short time, make the most of it!
Thus says old wise man Gitlin
(Although some would debate the "wise" part)

Ol' Man Gitlin

That makes me feel like my dad, LOL

@jonsca We'd been together for 3 years and were planning of moving in together and start a 'new' life in London ... so yeah I would say there was something special. :)
But I'm doing the best I can of just moving forward ... No use just sitting around, if it works out that's still possible later, ... but for now I might even get to know a better girlfriend. ;p

@StevenJeuris Wow, yeah, 3 years is a long time. If you spend 2 more years trying to win her back and it doesn't pan out anyway, you would have taken 2 years that you could have had finding and being with someone you spend the rest of your life with.
That needs parentheses somewhere

11:57 AM
@jonsca I don't get it.

Hehe. Yeah, I had to reread it myself

@JoshGitlin Rofl. :)

That's closer to what I mean, LOL
It's always a gamble
@StevenJeuris Just making fun of the fact that Muster is old

Ow I won't try to win her back ... she gave up on me. My guess is if it would have worked out I'll hear from her again some time in the future. Whether or not it would be worthwhile trying again would be solely based on whether she can explain why she wants to try again, and whether or not I met someone better. :)

He may be older than me, and I'm older than Old Man Gitlin (but I'm not telling how much), it's a whole patriarchy here
@StevenJeuris That's the spirit!
We're going to turn this into the 2010s equivalent of playing chess in the park with all of us old guys around

12:02 PM
@jonsca Wow if you're older than me you must be ancient :-)

Yep
Don't remind me

That's about right
Except I never wear ties if I can help it

Same here. It's tough to tie a windsor knot with my arthritic fingers ;-)

Amen.

12:15 PM
All righty, well catcha all later :)

@jonsca see ya!

1 hour later…
1:18 PM
I am impressed with the Comp Neuro OP:
I think the most expedient and fruitful thing to do is consider renaming the CogSci.SE. It seems that any question that might be asked here could be asked there or on the more programming-oriented SEs. How do I vote to close? (I'm the OP.) — mac389 58 mins ago

Nice
@ArtemKaznatcheev don't you stop pushing hard for a name change young man!
Keep gathering support from the community, get everyone rallied behind one or two names!

1:55 PM
Hm I honestly dunno at this point. Is there really an all inclusive name?
From what we've seen I can only assume if we include neuroscience a bunch of psychology proposals will start missing the point
Do all proposals have 500 dupes created every week like Neuroscience?
I'm starting to question how all of these people managed to both be completely unaware of cogsci AND every other neuroscience proposal
The common element no longer appears to be us in that regard

2:08 PM
@BenBrocka cognitivepryschitrypsychologyneurosciencebrainandeverythingscience.stackexchange‌.com ?
But in seriousness, I am not sure...
cognitivism.stackexchange.com ...? Just brainstorming
"Cognitivism and Neuroscience"?
Or maybe just brain.stackexchange.com :-)

2:40 PM
brainstorming.se
brains.zombi.es

2:51 PM
@JoshGitlin That makes me weep a little with joy ;)
@BenBrocka will ne'er go for it, though

I would love to be brain.stackexchange.com
But I don't think the team will love that as much as I :-)

But we'd alienate the "mind" people ;)
I've always liked the Brain, Mind, and Behavior one that somebody proposed
(I had said Brain and Behavior, as I think that's catchier, but...)
There's always an opportunity to copy the name of the MIT department: "Brain and Cognitive Sciences"

3:15 PM
Psychology and neuroscience seems to cover most, but not all...there's no real way to cover them all while using recognizable terms that I can see

4:12 PM
@jonsca OK, bcs.stackexchange.com might work well!
@jonsca Brain and Behavior is my personal favorite.
Then again maybe we should be thinking completely outside the box
Like, "Stack Overflow" or "Ask Different" or "Arquade"
Since as @BenBrocka says, we can't really come up with an all-encompassing name, maybe we should be thinking more of a brand... or a slogan... or how ever you describe some of the other SE names
Which is one of the essential beta questions:
Robert Cartaino on October 05, 2010

Friday night we rolled back the domain name of our first out-of-beta website. After less than 24 hours of existing on the internet, nothingtoinstall.com was reverted to its original public beta name – webapps.stackexchange.com.

We’re sorry for springing this on you at the last minute but – at least at the time – it felt like circumstances didn’t give us much choice.

With deep concerns about domain name choices for the 20+ ongoing public betas and some negative feedback about breaking up the network into smaller domains, we made the snap decision to roll back the nam …

4:31 PM
Brand is kinda a doomed idea unfortunately

@JoshGitlin Anything but the Arqade style name, I did suggest Syqologie for our site multiple times, though as Ben and Artem will attest
it's the only one I could think of that fits the "illiterate q use" motif

I don't recall that at all
Hey, Arqade was by far the best possible name for the site
did you see the other suggestions? Good names do not grow on trees

@BenBrocka Well, I meant it jokingly, but yeah, I think I said it a few times

Brain and Behavior is catchy but too reductionist
I don't mind mind, brain, and behavior

@ArtemKaznatcheev I'm sorry I can't hear you over the sound of that incessant whine ;)
:P

4:44 PM
Or just Neuroscience and Psychology

@ArtemKaznatcheev Yeah, I like that one too

Or.... Quantum coNeuropsychophisics

Even better

With a systems and computational thrown in somewhere

Cognineuropsychopsychilicous

4:46 PM
Quantum Nuclear Neuropsychophysicology

Estes Kefauver is always a good name for a site
(I can't believe I spelled that right)
Anyway, I gots to go again, @ArtemKaznatcheev I hope you knew I was teasing ;)

The Skinner Box

Go it.... Psychology + Neuroscience .... Psy + N ... PsioN

ΨN
pronounced Sign of course

Oh,vi was just trying to lure in the tin-foil hatters with that name
Or lure all the board game SE users over
What did people dislike about "Brain and Mind"
Even Brain Science would be better than CogSci... Since in such a title I think only the most pedantic would make the MInd/Brain distinction
Ooo.... "Research Brain"
Wait "Protoss"

1 hour later…
6:04 PM
@ArtemKaznatcheev It's just so detached from terms describing the fields. But it's impossible to include them all as well

6:51 PM
@jonsca :-(
@jonsca I'm here now!
I was working at that moment

1 hour later…

Q: I am feeling pain to run my everyday life

BROYMy parents didn't have any understanding between them. My father was indifferent. My mother was always disturbed and complaining about his aimless activities. He was not even present when his children were born. He was passing time with his friends and my mother was not even taken to the hospital...

NOPE

8:36 PM
Sorry guys, I am at work. Nice work closing so quickly @annalear!

@JoshGitlin No problem. :)

Again, damn work getting in the way of my moderating :-)

I know that feel, bro.

As a reminder, should there every be any urgent issues on this site, in addition to flagging you guys can email cogsci -at- josh -dot- gitlin -dot- name and mark the message "high priority", and this will send a copy to my mobile phone
(I.E. someone seriously depressed and looking fro help in the wrong place, this site is not designed for that)
