That's a rather vague description of changes, really.

I'm just trying my luck again ;) ... Can somebody give me a short example of Import[] syntax, to be able to import several data area from an Excel file at once? All imported data shout be "Data" - type and different data areas could be placed in different sheets.

Has something changed on SE chat implementation? If I log into it on Firefox on my Ubuntu machine, my Firefox breaks down in interesting ways in other tabs (for instance, fails to load images)...

@kirma Just tested (I normally use Chrome) - no problems for me with Firefox. Maybe trying a "factory reset" in Firefox would correct the problems?

@Conrad While fighting with it, I ended up doing that, first unintentionally, then intentionally (there gone couple years of tabs, and history, took a while to reconstruct!). It would appear it didn't really help; once I opened the chat window again, strange things started happening, and it gone away when I opened Firefox without that tab.
I suspect there might be some strange plugin interaction involved with it...

@kirma Maybe updating to the latest version could help? I've got the announcement about a new version (38.0.5) a few minutes ago.

Well... whenever my Ubuntu gets new one.

@Conrad Doesn't Import grab all of the sheets in the workbook? Then you can just take the parts you want like with any expression: data[[...]]

@xslittlegrass Hmm, I don't know, but they didn't say something about bug-fixes, did they? I mean, I don't care if they fixed some bugs and I think it's okay if 80 of the 100 new functions start with SocialMedia.... Seriously, just kidding

@MichaelHale Yes, but there is a big amount of data in the sheets and I just need about 10% of it, so it would be somehow a waste of space, I think.

@Conrad If the workbook is too big to fit into memory then Import won't be a good path. I would generate a smaller workbook with just the data you want and then import that.
The unused 90% will be taken care of by the garbage collector though if you don't store any references to it.
Like if you take the subset you want after importing but before assigning to a symbol. Or if you assign the subset to a new symbol and then clear the symbol that contains the full set.

We’re always on the lookout for new ideas and ways of using the Wolfram Language that our users produce and choose to write about in their books. In this quarter, we have applications that bridge the gap between art and geometry, and demonstrate intuitive data analysis. In addition to writing books, Wolfram welcomes authors to [...]
