@mfvonh

3:07 AM
@Crisp I'll be in and out. If I'm not here feel free to leave a question.

3:53 AM
oh ok
about your code

Clear@myMaximalBy;
myMaximalBy[e_List, f_, n_: All] := Take[Last@SortBy[GatherBy[e, f], #[[1, -1]] &], n];

the part with [[1,-1]] what does that do?
i have replaced -1 with 2 and it works fine, so why is the -1 necessary

@Crisp [[1,-1]] means first row, last column

I prototyped a simple game tonight (maybe called the "diverse gathering game").

@MichaelHale you can out this on the W-Cloud so one can play it :)

You start at the yellow vertex. You can move to other vertices to pick up items worth different amounts when you bring them back to your home vertex. When you bring an item back to your home vertex, your score goes up, and the value for that item goes to 0 and gradually replenishes.
You try to get the most points in a set number of moves.
Yes, I will think about deploying it. I will sleep now though, and just put the code here for now since you all already can run it.
locationCount = 6;
graph = RandomGraph@BarabasiAlbertGraphDistribution[locationCount, 2];
currentValues =
  maxValues =
   ReplacePart[RandomInteger[{1, 10}, locationCount], 1 -> 0];
currentLocation = 1;
currentItem = {1, 1, 1};
homeLocations = 1;
color[location_] :=
  ColorData["FallColors"][currentValues[[location]]/Max@maxValues];
score = 0;
turnsLeft = 20;
Column[{Dynamic@
   Row@Join[{"Turns left:", turnsLeft, "    Carrying:"},
     Graphics[{color@#, Rectangle@{0, 0}, Black,
         Text[If[# > 0, currentValues[[#]], 0], {.5, .5}]},

thanks!

Increase the number of nodes to make it more interesting I think.

any one here can check something in V10?

10:15 AM
@Nasser Ok

But when I type Jens code on V10, I do not get the same result shown there. Here it is:
f /: Integrate[f[x_], x_] := ff[x]
Simplify[Integrate[c f[x], {x, a, b}]/c]
accoording to the post there, the result should be -ff[a] + ff[b] but in V10 I do not get this, the integral remains the same. Could you please try this on your end? I am on windows, V10

@Nasser Same here on OS X V10

@Pickett strange. SOmething changed you think?

@Nasser Yeah, don't understand what it is yet though.

@Pickett ok, thanks for checking.

10:22 AM
@Nasser I get the same in V9, now I'm really confused.

@Pickett may be then Jens used another version? but the post is recent (2 years old). I also checked to see if there is some code not shown one is supposed to run first, but do not see any.
@Pickett the reason I noticed this, is that I wanted to apply this method to my answer here mathematica.stackexchange.com/questions/58424/… but since it did not work, I used a rule. Not best way, but there was no other way I can see.

@Nasser It is written in 2012, maybe it is meant for V8?
Anyway I'll leave a comment.

@Pickett may be. That is why it is always useful to put the version number.
but we always forget these things, no one expect something like this to change!

2 hours later…
12:33 PM
School starts this tuesday, and I still have not decided what course to take, I am in trouble! Have to decide. Should I flip a coin? :)
I am thinking of FEM (v10 has new FEM functions which would be interesting to use to verify with), or control systems (linear). Hard to decide. We will probably have to use Matlab for control

I looked at some code implementing revised simplex method in Matlab a moment ago and almost got brain hemorrhage...
Nobody in their right mind designs primitives of a language that way.

12:49 PM
@kirma Matlab is nice for numerical and control systems, but I agree with you, for anything else, I do not like it myself.

5 hours later…
5:31 PM
@Nasser Jens fixed it so that it works for newer versions. Take a look.

2 hours later…
7:40 PM
So there is no CDF browser plugin for version 10? So the people I sent my game to are out of luck?
I still have v8 installed, so I can tweak it and make the CDF in there I suppose.

1 hour later…
8:44 PM
I just had to make two changes for it to work in v8 and then the CDF worked for them. Does anyone know when the plugin will be updated for v10?

8:59 PM
@MichaelHale I read someone says in short time on community, few months may be? But they are working on it based on what I read, I can't remember the post I read, it is on WRI community somewhere. But this is will be good question to ask there.

I guess I just assumed they would update the plugin in sync with the language and development tool. Not a huge deal, but kind of annoying.

9:44 PM
@MichaelHale here a reated post about what you are asking, fyi community.wolfram.com/groups/-/m/t/288532?sortMsg=Votes "Roadmap for CDF? "
@MichaelHale to tell you the truth, I stopped doing Manipulate and CDF for dynamics with 3D since the performance is not good at all. I complained about this on community also (but no responses). If I wanted to do GUI with 3D simulation now, I'd have to find something else (c++/Qt) or something much faster than Mathematica GUI. The rendering is just too slow.

1 hour later…
11:08 PM
Phone typing: I'm not interested yet in CDF for final release, but if I make a tweak and want to send an updated prototype to 5 people, I'd prefer not to have to check it in another version before sending.
