@xslittlegrass So you have some kind of chicken-eyes. Interesting. Have you probed any other part of your anatomy?

My Mathematica 9 has stopped working: the front end freezes on startup. I really need it now. Has anyone experienced this symptom and found a solution?
Removing the FE's init.m doesn't help.
I removed the whole configuration directory, the bloody thing still freezes, and it's not just a single version that does it ....

1:07 AM
I don't understand it. It started after a reboot, and another reboot fixed it.

@Szabolcs Didn't happened to me, but if I can help you in any way you may think of ...
seems I was too late
good

1:58 AM
Never happened here

2:09 AM
@Szabolcs does this work : "start Mathematica while holding down the Option and Shift keys." ?
@belisarius haven't find other gyros yet :D

hi can anyone help me how i could make a simple function (f=x+1) and in point in graph (A(0,1), B(1,3)) in one graph in mathematica - i am a beginner. Thank you very much :)

@LukaToni Just make a normal Plot and a ListPlot and join them using Show
@LukaToni Something like this
Show[Plot[x + 1, {x, -1, 3}],
 ListPlot[{{0, 1}, {1, 3}}, PlotStyle -> {Red, PointSize[0.04]}]
 ]

Thanks :) very much
how can i refresh mathematic? is there any shortcut

is it possible to set points a leter (you got point and near is letter A)?? thanks

Q: adding labels to points in ListPlot

sjdhTable[{Re[5 Exp[I 5/2 t]], Im[5 Exp[I 5/2 t]]}, {t, 0, 6}] ListPlot[%] This code plots 6 points in the complex plane. To each point I would like to add a label in the plot that lists the value of t. How can I do that? Please note: I want to print this plot, so the labels should all be visible.

Hello, is anyone familiar with SequenceAlignment?

2:50 PM
@IstvánZachar I've used it a few times. Not an expert though

@belisarius Hi Belisarius! I'm just not sure whether SequenceAlignment[a, b] and SequenceAlignment[b, a] should be the same or not. The docs are of no help here.
{a, b} = {"GCUACA", "AACAA"};
al1 = SequenceAlignment[a, b]
al2 = SequenceAlignment[b, a] /. {x_String, y_String} :> {y, x}
al1 === al2
Result is False.

3:09 PM
Well, I guess it doesn't have to be the same if certain parameters are not specified explicitly

@IstvánZachar I can't find a clear reason for them to be equal
Although the NeedlemanWunschSimilarity[] index is symmetric
but not the alignment

I assume then that the score matrix that is created internally is not symmetric, and Mathematica traverses it in a specific order. Thanks anyway for taking the time!

3:25 PM
You're welcome

What's that option that determines if Graphics3D object should readjust when mouse is released after rotating?
Nevermind, I found it, RotationAction, it was listed in More Information section but not under Options so it slipped by me first time through
Seems to be ignored unless PreserveImageOptions->True is also given

@ssch I think what you are looking for is:
Framed[Graphics3D[Cuboid[{0, 0, 0}], SphericalRegion -> True]]
Framed[Graphics3D[Cuboid[{0, 0, 0}], SphericalRegion -> False]]

@halirutan That works too, but I can't understand how they are different

@ssch Spherical region true make the margins around the object as large as there would be a sphere around the bounding box.
This makes that the graphics does not need to be resized.
OK, got to go. Bye

Bye, I'll play around more with this, thanks
Can I make it continously Fit while rotating?

4:14 PM
Hi again, hi @halirutan, ssch!
Is it possible to specify PageWidth with Put when exporting?
Put generates linebreaks all the time...

@rm-rf just wanted to say I admired the way you handled Mr Presentations - some good moderation skills there ... I'd have just called him a pompous git. Me, bigoted?! :)

7:15 PM
All good and happy over here?

@cormullion straightforward, like?
@Rojo waiting for pizza ...

@YvesKlett Waiting for happiness then

had a beer already to prepare
only if that pizza takes much longer, it can go bad as well

4 hours later…
11:46 PM
@cormullion Thanks :)
