12:50 AM
Anyone up for some blitz?
I guess that just leaves @Doorknob

1:15 AM
lonely
2

1:25 AM
and again I find a checkmate pattern in the training and fail because it wasn't the checkmate pattern it wanted..

1:37 AM
whoa, just watched chessbrahs lose on a live stream!

1:54 AM
no one is on >.>

2 hours later…
3:43 AM
ugh
I was winning this atomic game, no way out for my opponent. Then my connection dropped, but I didn't get an indicator. Sat there wondering why he was running his clock down.. then it reconnected right as I timed out.
And this is after I accidentally passed a winning move up (still getting used to the fact that I can win while in check).
I'm done for the day, heading to bed.

8 hours later…
12:12 PM
Learning Horde. Anyone is welcome to try: lichess.org/6yp7O19x

oh, timed? let me grab my mouse :P

Doorknob is playing. :P
I'll just give you more time if you run low.
Actually, should had made it correspondence.

12:29 PM
Good game!

gg
lol

I was sure you were going to win that one :P
Aww, lichess doesn't have analysis graphs for horde yet.

move 36 was terrible
37... Qxc7 38. dxc7+ Kxc7 was the right line
I'd be left with a rook and a knight, but that's better than getting mated
What's your favourite gamemode(s) on lichess? :P

hmmm... that's a tough one :P
I'm not sure I have a favorite; all the variants are pretty fun

Ha, that's true.
Atomic and antichess are full of traps and advantage turning points.
King of the hill and three check adds challenges on top of standard and makes the game tricky and interesting.

12:37 PM
Yeah, I couldn't count the amount of times that I thought I had a clear winning position in antichess and ended up losing anyway.

:P

12:47 PM
I BEAT A 1800+ RATING ATOMIC PLAYER
OMGZ
with my classic pokingpawninthecenter trick

lol nice! link?

all the studying of atomic pays off
The magic is that if the pawn gets destroied, my queen flies over and gives the other queen a hug and explosion

Yay, let's be frien—DIE NOW
I should really start playing rated games.

Don't just play rated games, win them.

heh, that is orders of magnitude more difficult

12:51 PM
Would you like a rated correspondence game?

I am currently playing a joke game with a friend in which we both do the Bongcloud, haha

:o

I think I'm going to stick with only playing Casual with people I know, and reserving rated for games with strangers

weird policy but sure

I feel like playing, rated against, ahem, certain friends would give my rating an unfair boost, and I don't want to "discriminate" against who to play rated with :P

12:56 PM
@Doorknob Lichess doesn't run on ELO, so that's not really a boost.
You can only exploit that on ELO systems, I think. :P

ELO?

The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in competitor-versus-competitor games such as chess. It is named after its creator Arpad Elo, a Hungarian-born American physics professor. The Elo system was invented as an improved chess rating system and is also used in many other games. It is also used as a rating system for multiplayer competition in a number of video games, and has been adapted to team sports including association football, gridiron football, basketball, Major League Baseball, competitive programming, and esports. The difference in the ratings...
The Glicko rating system and Glicko-2 rating system are methods for assessing a player's strength in games of skill, such as chess and go. It was invented by Mark Glickman as an improvement of the Elo rating system, and initially intended for the primary use as a chess rating system. Glickman's principal contribution to measurement is "ratings reliability", called RD, for ratings deviation. Both Glicko and Glicko-2 rating systems are under public domain and found implemented on game servers online (like Free Internet Chess Server, Chess.com, Guild Wars 2). The formulas used for the systems can...
Lichess uses Glicko

No, I mean my rating wouldn't be an accurate representation of how good I am at each variant (I don't have a "real" rating; have never played chess competitively)

Hey, the profile page got a redesign. The tournament links are next to the timestamp, no longer under the moves preview.
<- has more tournament points than ProgramFOX :D

1:11 PM
rofl my king almost made it to the other side
nooo, I almost made it but then got checkmated haha

@Unihedron lol :P

1:36 PM
sees tournament named "lolli arena"
I wonder where they get the names from
that will keep them pg13 for sure

They are stored in a long one-line list in the codebase.

Oh, cool.
Jacob is playing a rated antichess game with a stranger.
The stranger sucks at antichess, but it doesn't matter since Jacob is too bad at it.

Who's Jacob?

Jacob Gray, Virginia, USA
3.6k 1 7 27

@Doorknob A member of the Teenage Programmers Chatroom.

1:54 PM
Cool, variant tournaments are live!
Only horde, atomic and antichess though.

Ohhh Daily Atomic Arena! Wait that's at midnight here pfffft.

:(
It's 5pm here - I'd be at school
I guess we can always start our own tournaments :P

yeah indeed :p

knowledge GET! :D
^ a book about atomic @Doorknob

2:01 PM
ooooh thanks :D

2:30 PM
Just lost a game against a 2400-Atomic player by time.
Stupid timer, I was winning!

I signed up on chesscube.com.
I beat someone in bullet pretty hard.
This site has an experience system. Virtual internet points ftw ^^
However, I don't like how a main way to get points is to invite friends.

Anybody an idea how I get a manual for this box? "Novag Piccolo"

1 hour later…
3:56 PM
ugh
yet another mating sequence that "isn't the one" in training.

4:10 PM
lol
there's always a better one, exercise your keen eyes
we're playing in koth casual tournament that's about to end en.lichess.org/tournament/1VQqCIYX

4:29 PM
@Unihedron Neither was really "better". Especially the first one I found.

@Unihedron say, got any koth tips? I'm not too good at it.

it's running if you want to watch]
@Seth Oh, I was studying the King of the hill variant this morning.
Exchanges are dangerous and can easily win you material if your opponent isn't careful with your structure.
Castling is deadly.

Oh? What resources were you using?

Analysis board.

4:35 PM
@Unihedron yes, I saw that in action (even though you lost that one ;P)

@Seth I blundered.

Which is losing ;)
So is analysis board a site or did you mean you just analysed old games?

Nxe3, for examples, takes out the knight being protected by e4, keeps the center protected and threatens light bishop.
I was moving pieces back and force for several hours while calculating.

ah. It supports KOTH?

No.
But you can pretend it does.
It doesn't matter because every piece is the same and having the center highlighted isn't really a lot.

4:39 PM
Wanna do some atomic blitz?

How about atomic bullet instead?
Kidding, sure! :)

I can't do bullet yet :p

Well, I lost. :P
Ugh, tricky knight~!!

I have to run now!
Thanks for playing @Unihedron!

Thanks for the games, run fast!

5:52 PM
Aha! I found out why I didn't get an extra point for berserking a few days ago:
> Berserk gives the extra point only if each player has played at least 7 moves.

6:05 PM
Game, anyone?

Sure! I'm up for a Correspondence one.
Oh, I got to go now. Cya!

I missed my chance :P
You should ping me next time, so that I won't miss your message
;)

2 hours later…
8:39 PM
whoops, lost a puzzle by mixing up the queen and king. That's embarrassing >.>

2 hours later…
10:51 PM
I'm the only person in the daily antichess arena... -_-
Okay, now there's three people and it starts in less than a minute.
I won my first game because my opponent didn't move >_<

11:34 PM
I beat a 1793-rated player in antichess! \o/
