@JoeTaxpayer I seem to have suddenly gained unexpected powers and I am a tad concerned. I voted to close the question money.stackexchange.com/q/73926/5760 about large cash deposits as being a duplicate of a previous question. The question I was voting to close had no previous close votes, and much to my surprise, the question was closed immediately, much as if I were a Moderator or had access to Trusted User tools (which I won't for some time yet, still below 20k rep). What's going on?

Checking with CMs. Thanks for letting us know!
You have a gold tag for united-states. For questions with that tag, you have some powers.
No idea where this is described. I got the answer from other mods.
It's just power to "close as duplicate"
@DilipSarwate - meta.stackexchange.com/questions/230865/… is the post that talked about it.

@JoeTaxpayer Thanks for the quick response. I checked the gold badge description and it says "These users can single-handedly mark united-states questions as duplicates and reopen them as needed." right there after the 1000 rep etc. I earned the gold badge on January 11 and so I guess I have had these powers for a few days without realizing it.

My app pings when I'm mentioned by name. And this one really got me curious. No worries. Learned something new.
