The slowness might be related to the 2012 server being off. Clients may still be trying to connect to it before failing over to the new DC. That's to be expected. When the 2012 server is removed from the domain and DNS then clients should only try to communicate with the new DC. Glad to hear it's working so far. Keep me posted on how it goes tomorrow and after you remove the 2012 server.
Make sure to double check the DNS zone to make sure that the other A records for the new DC are gone. You only want the .10 address to exist.

I checked the DNS records for .10 yesterday and I believe they appear as they should; all records removed with the exception of .10. In addition, the NSlookup commands previous ran now all return 1 IP for each server, which I believe is expected until I actually demote the server I'm taking offline.
Users have been on for approximately an hour and there have been no reported issues. Server2012 is still offline.
