Q: Are drop bars fun when brakes are rubbish? I'm debating getting a pair of cheap Miche callipers and Tektro levers, but fear that wouldn't be good enough to safely break from the hoods.
I don't fully trust my 30 year old mustache bars, that has more scars than a cyclist who tried to fight off a pack of dogs with a mini pump. Drop bars are cheap...
I forgot to mention, long drop callipers.

Drop bar braking is better from the drops than the hoods, at least in older bikes. It might be more equal in newer designs, but there's always less leverage in the hoods.
If you're worried about \your bars, take the tape off and give them a good look over for cracks, rust/oxidation, wrinkles, creaks and dents.
then make a decision.
If you're used to moustaches then keep using that shape.

wait, isn't andy australian?

I know he's in Australia, but not sure what he identifies as.
If it were me, I'd guess either he's riding too much or not enough.

@Criggie full of deep scratches, holes, dents.
@Criggie the only love I have for them are that I got them for free and that they aren't flat bars. Mustache bars are either not very good, or a terrible bodge.

10:42 AM
I like the hand position on the hoods as it requires little trusting of wrists. I considered a time trial bull bar and bar ed levers. But that quickly gets expensive.
I've to keep costs low to avoid the sunken cost dilemma. Where I sink more and more in a wreck.

Do you have a local bike co-operative ?
or the local Recycle A Dunger

No, not here on the countryside. Next city with a bike co op is almost 100 km away. But a lot of stuff can be gotten through friends' and my dad's parts bins. That stuff is quite unusual though.
I'm thinking about something I could bodge together.

@Batman You need to download the drivers for the phone from the manufacturer website.
Then (I am assuming androit) you need to download some form of ADB. Either the full android developer kit from google, or a lighter version (can be dicey since they are repacked by random folks)
then get ADB running on the PC and command away
but you need a regular USB cable, not a OTG one

@SuspendedUser yeah. but im not sure i can get the thing in recovery mode. google provides adb as a standalone download

10:50 PM
I'm not sure you need to get to recovery.
Just enable the developer options and switch on USB debugging.
@Batman
although recovery mode should be fairly easy on any androit unless someone previously hosed the bootloader
