1:00 PM
I have a very dim view of most press fit things. Headsets, star nuts and bottom brackets.
There's a nice looking Ti Kona, made by Lynksey, I'll add that to the short list

well the thing is, headsets last the life of a bike normally
bottom brackets on the other hand don't
with threaded bb's you can get all the tools you need for under 50 dollars (wrench, bb tool, etc.)
for these pressfit systems, its well over 100
basically aside from fork/headset stuff, I believe everything should be installable or servicable at home
provided the frame has been appropriately prepreped (i.e. faced+reamed)
i dont think its the standardization thats the issue though. its just that the tolerances are too small and poorly done and the tools are too expensive

1:15 PM
Don't get me wrong, I dislike them for more than their lack of standardisation.

i told myself when i finish grad school, i'll buy myself a kona jake. hopefully the regular jake is still threaded then

discs :(
don't belong on drop bars
god, TT bikes are ugly
TdF's on btw.
I suppose discs have some business on a CX bike

i dunno. bit more complicated, but i like the idea of a disc brake drop bar bike -- would b enice in the rain or snow

I've never thought the brake was the issue on a bike with road tires
the road grip and the clown in charge are usually a much bigger issue

well in the dry it isn't. in the rain or snow, its a different matter.

1:22 PM
in cambodia, the roads are like ice in the rain
all the oil from all the buggered cars floats up and you slide and slide and slide
Once I'm set for road bike(s) I want a CX
for adventures
I noticed the MTN Quebeka teams are using cervelo's with the magura hydraulic rim brakes
I'd like to try them

expensive

very
i like my magura mountain brakes a lot though
really well thought out
easy to bleed
and mineral oil which is nice as the DOT 4 from my girlfriend's avids discoloured the paint on the forks when I managed to pop a piston out

You can get DOT brake fluid anywhere though

yeah, but do you really want to ;)

id rather have the option than having to mail order fluid if necessary

1:33 PM
most mineral oil ha a much better shelf life, so you can buy a load when you can

the problem is only when you open the bottle with DOT

would be nice if there was a standard mineral oil for this
without the problems of DOT
which you could reliably use across brands of bike brake

i dont think DOT is really a problem - people have had decades of time working with it on teh automotive / motorcycle side

not the biggest issue in the world I'll grant you, it's just nasty stuff

well yeah. most things are.
