Just read an article about the ramen craze in London
not sure how objective and true is it all but that's a thing!
normally in Japan ramen is considered sort of B-class food. Which means not very good, but if you want to go quick and cheap and often dirty too, it is the way to go. Sort of fast-food but with less nasty reputation.
and reading the flowery descriptions of particular ramens + "we ordered few wines" is sort of funny.
Reminds the bread craze here in Japan. At some point of time there were restaurants serving, say, a salad and coffee. And unlimited buns. And it costs like a full-course lunch. Because, come on, unlimited buns!
and people were flowery and all in love about "bread"

High-end ramen is a "thing" in the states too.
Then again I've heard that in some places, mcdonalds is seen as a high-end eating experience, not fast food.

Sore.
Hills are a pain, I'm in Sydney now, been on rollers for 3 months and wasn't expecting this.

@nhinkle, my girl friend's had to bring mcdonalds from bangkok to phnom penh for friends before.
We don't have one there.
Just got burger king in the last year though, so that's depressing
