A: Best practices BAD, patterns GOOD?

Robert HarveyFrom Why is asking a question on "best practice" a bad thing? While you may be an exemplary, clear-thinking, individual, who uses the term 'best practice' in a constructive manner, you have been preceded by a giant procession of zombies who use it as the antithesis of thought. Instead of unde...

Sorry to say that, Opinion based questions are off topic to SO. ask it in Software Engineering SE — Sagar V 26 secs ago

Your question is not on-topic on Stack Overflow. It appears to be off-topic on Software Engineering, too ("Are Career-Advice Questions On-Topic Here?"). It might be on-topic at Workplace, but it might run afoul of their "advice on what to do" rule... I'm not a member there, so don't take my word for it. — Kevin J. Chase 26 secs ago

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it is about Mathematics instead of programming or software development. — Pang 39 secs ago
Try your question on Software Engineering... after first checking their list of allowed topics and making sure your question qualifies as reasonably scoped. (I suspect it does not, but I'm not a regular over there.) — Kevin J. Chase 30 secs ago

@IMSoP to put it another way, the problem is in the choice of criteria. The question is off-topic for SO. I'm not sure if another StackExchange site is more appropriate - maybe softwareengineering.stackexchange.com or dba.stackexchange.com. I suspect people at dba would say the same though — Panagiotis Kanavos 55 secs ago

But seriously, ask your teacher. Or if you want to post here (and I suspect it's more suited to SoftwareEngineering) post the full question as well as your attempt at answering it. — Michael 13 secs ago

@gnat Thanks but it is not necessarily off-topic over there. It entirely depends on the exam question. It's obvious that this question in it's current state is not suited for any StackExchange site. The reason I suggested it is probably more suited to SoftwareEng is that I imagine exam questions are more likely to test understanding of concepts rather than ask for specific implementations in code, though obviously it could be either. — Michael 37 secs ago

Search Software Recommendations before posting your question there. Software recommendations are off-topic for StackOverflow. — Thomas Matthews 37 secs ago
Your question is both broad and opinionated and will end up being closed. I suggest taking to perhaps Software Engineering, though it still may be off-topic there as well. — Chris Pratt just now

Your question is about plain usage of the duplicity tool, and while mentioning ansible your question is not specific to software development. You will have better luck asking at the right place, where you will get more visibility and attention. — Jens Erat 6 secs ago
Please be aware that this question is not software development specific at all and thus off-topic on Stack Overflow. Consider asking on the sister sites Super User or security.stackexchange.com instead, and make sure to be learn about the differences between PGP, OpenPGP and GnuPG before, and be more specific about which of the products/standard is of interest to you. — Jens Erat 49 secs ago
