@Ampt It's Holi
You wrote a 4 paragraph question about getting to the point. "...communications with long unproductive fluff." Is there such a thing as productive fluff? — JeffO Jan 30 '13 at 21:52

I wonder, did this guy come along and re-ask his question on Programmers? programmers.stackexchange.com/users/221982/…
> This question is better suited for StackExchange.Programmers – Quirk 8 hours ago

Ok. I will post it there. – Rishi 8 hours ago
@BarryTheHatchet can you tell if he did?

@DeliriousSyntax Hi, how's your day going?
@DeliriousSyntax Pretty good. Yours?
@DeliriousSyntax It's alright just wish I had more cofee

@AaronHall what do you mean?
> This user has not asked any questions
not sure what you expect me to say :/

ah, you're under 10k too.

yes I am a P.SE pauper
What I want to know is where this "Quirk" guy (who doesn't know the P.SE topic apparently) got the name "StackExchange.Programmers"

If he did, it got deleted already.

3:31 PM
Google tells me it was likely to be this programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/313890/…
slightly different title but the same question
document cache confirms it

Yeah, proof. @Shog9 would the tool-tip be difficult to implement?

apparently Google indexed it two minutes after it was posted. fairly impressive
@RobertHarvey sort of
@AaronHall what tooltip

Why, this one:
Mar 8 at 16:24, by Aaron Hall
They all come from well meaning naïfs on SO - just pop up a tool-tip when they type in programmers.stackexchange.com - "please only recommend programmers if you're absolutely certain it's on-topic and a good question for the site"

oh that
I think it should be more forceful
click submit, big popup saying

It's meant to be more of a semantic idea than a final proposal.

3:39 PM
> STOP! Are you sure this question is a good fit for Programmers.SE? Please read [this guide](url of that guide for SO-ers thing that gnat's so fond of) then click "I'm sure" if you still wish to suggest post migration. Otherwise, click "No, sorry!"
two buttons
the latter discards the comment, the former posts it
and stop doing that for a user after the first time they hit "I'm sure"

And when it gets closed and deleted, you're in the penalty box for what, a month?

(at that point you're as sure as you can be that they've got the message and are now only recommending migration when appropriate)
@AaronHall possible future expansion yes :P
(popup should be red)

Just a question who is the person that is able to make these changes?\

Why, the fabulously flush with venture capital, Stackoverflow, should have that person on payroll. :)
Unless it's all earmarked for recruiters/marketers/etc - Plan B is to open source the site and have the internet fairies write it for free.
Which won't be me since I don't want to learn .net
Did they open-source it?

Anyone know what Stagefright Vulnerability is?

A: Is the Stack Overflow source code available?

Andreas BoniniAfter having given much thought to it during the last 2 years I decided that yes, I will release the stack overflow source code. Here it is: static void a() { a(); } int main() { a(); }

@DeliriousSyntax according to avast FAQ it is malware that is delivered via a multimedia message (MMS) sent to any messenger app that can process a specific video format

@DeliriousSyntax apparently nobody

@BarryTheHatchet I thought I was just on everyone's ignore list

@DeliriousSyntax you are
I can't see anything you say

3:55 PM
@BarryTheHatchet Figured

I clicked "hide posts" and when that junk scrolled off screen, I refreshed the screen. I haven't been ignoring you, I just haven't been responding. It's just not good form to clutter the page by yourself. I usually edit my one-boxed stuff down to a link (unless I strongly believe it's worth the real-estate on the page.)
Plus it's the weekend, so I haven't been paying attention anyways.

hang on what did I miss
what junk
(also TIL about "hide posts")

@BarryTheHatchet junk = Everything I post :)

stop it.
On another subject, I got three responses to my survey. All three want me to do the class slower. I disagree, though, there's lots of time for redundancy and filling in the blanks - the class is just pass/fail.
is teaching a class on Python at a local college for professional development students, mostly

Your a teacher?

You're*
@AaronHall oh, right, that

Make sure you don't conflate wary/leery with weary.
I'm quite weary of grammatical errors.

liri and leery

When you work with people, try to avoid pointing out their grammatical errors.

Do you know what charching means?

@DeliriousSyntax It means the author didn't do a spell check?

I thought it was a mispelled, but the author used it with that spelling multiple times through out the article and hey amon

4:24 PM
I know about charging and charring, but they are distinct concepts except of course in the case of “hoverboards”

I googled charching had to use quotes or google changes it to charging, and they all have to do with batteries, which brings me to the belief that multiple misspell charging with charching.

Avoid cliches.
I think we tend to use those kinds of things as heuristics for when something is or isn't worth reading.

oops
darn grammatical errors.

I've decided to go see Superman tonight

A tryst!
How they calculate impact perhaps unfairly benefits me.
But given that few people value it, it's probably irrelevant.

9:18 PM
what

A tryst is a romantic rendezvous.

yes I know
what I don't know is what the flying frak you are going on about

Well, you did say you were going to see Superman tonight.
(flying frak indeed.)
oh, hey, congrats on 194k.

I am not confident if I am able to implement operator overloading correctly so that move assignment is invoked rather than copy. Can you guys help codereview.stackexchange.com/q/123959/97695

@AaronHall lol
@AaronHall meh was hoping to be a little further along by now. Only got a few weeks to hit 200k so now I need lots of accepts over repcap -.-
@Saurav Please don't spam your question around all the chatrooms

Sorry! I thought it was alright to discuss it here

I just cranked my impact up from 18.2 to 19.6.
So I'm pretty stoked.

And I didn't mean to spam, this is the only chat room I came in and thought it was appropriate to discuss
/* Sigh! Still a noob! */

impact?????????

9:50 PM
That's a lot of question marks. Who are you, the Riddler?
I'm super stoked to have my final cup of tea for the day.
does the robot to celebrate
pops it and locks it

Q: We're working on a new stat to help convey the reach of your posts here

JaydlesWe've got a new statistic on the shiny new Profile Page Prototype. It's not perfect yet. And we did a pretty crap job of explaining what it's all about! Let's talk. What you do here isn't just about solving one person's problem. A while back, a user contacted us about his friend's account. His...

10:21 PM
I think I like the term "impact" as descriptive of the stat. Academia (not SE) has a stat of the same name - it attempts to measure the citability of journals.
One's reputation in academia seems to be measured by publishing in journals with a high impact factor.

10:41 PM
Hmm... now I'm trying to brainstorm ways to increase views to up my impact. Perhaps they intended this?

I’ll admit to being a bit hazy about the exact homework problems and lectures in intro to CS all those decades ago. I’ll even admit to it being in Pascal (the other choices were C or Fortran 77). I suspect the first homework problem was a “get familiar with writing in the IDE” and the second assignment was your typical “basic control structures.” If I could go back in time, I know what that

I wonder if he (MichaelT ^^^^ ) got frustrated with not enough participation off-site.
