If you disagree with the way we can't close questions anymore if the target dupe isn't "answered": MSO: Ask Ubuntu and off-topic bugs

voted and commented.

@Seth it's a bug tracker. not a bag tracker ;)
@Seth thanks! I can now downvote on MSO :)

oops, deleted and re-commented.

:)

that was just too funny to keep.
@gertvdijk you're gonna need that privilege.
so much unrealistic things happening.

@Seth I'm happy to see that the announcement about the change is now at -1 and the proposal to revert the change is at +72.
You've said a couple times that it's so minor it won't make a difference ... then why was it implemented? I am guessing SE does not usually pay developers to spend time adding useless things to the code at random :P — Matthew Read 2 mins ago

nice!

A: Changes to "close as duplicate"

Matthew Read Proposed dupe has at least one score 0 answer Vote up said answer VTC Revert vote It has already been "abused" as such. There is also the possibility of further close votes becoming impossible if an answer gets downvoted to 0, leaving the potential dupe in a weird state. Besides that, I woul...

The "workaround"

excellent!

Good grief... in discussion with the MSO guy designing this VTC change!
@Shog9 Why do you think that unanswered questions aren't useful? It may be the same question, but just explained a lot better. It's good to have a canonical question to work on (improve/edit/bounty). And as a fact, we don't have a 100% answer rate on questions. What you're suggesting in this change is simply not working in practice. Look around here. — gertvdijk 28 secs ago

ugh, wish I had 125 on MSO
I just love this kind of stuff.... not.
I mean, common isn't this obvious?

Glad you're with me on this one. I'm afraid this is going to haunt me for a while.

ah, nah.
SE is forgiving.
they even give suspended users their rep back

@Seth Well, that is part of what it means to be suspended. Suspension is temporary. Also, I think the "1 reputation" thing is more about keeping them from exercising rep-gained privileges during the suspension, than anything else.

exercising rep privileges while suspended? o_O
you can't do anything while you are suspended.
(please note: I'm not saying suspended users are bad)

jrg

@Seth suspended users are suspended for a reason.
by its design, it's a "day in the penalty box".

@jrg yeah, I know.
BTW you made me an owner, I can read deleted messages :P

jrg
oh, whatever.

@jrg I don't think you understand what I am saying.
But I hate arguments, so I'll let it go.

jrg
@gertvdijk haunted?

@jrg yeah, as in, years later still getting replies on it. I'm afraid talking to such "big guys" on "big topics"

The grass withers and the flower fades, but the discussions on MSO endure forever.

or at least thats what it seems like. :D
@gertvdijk nah, it'll die down.

@gertvdijk ah, yeah. That would be bad.

lol
wow getting some love there on my comments. Feel a lot stronger now :)
