@ArthurFischer Well, I suppose I will object. Do you really think the status quo, with two camps taking turns deleting/undeleting questions, with no attempts at communication or building a site-wide consensus policy, is optimal and tenable in the long-term? If conversations about our deletion policy are not permitted on meta, where, precisely, are they supposed to take place? How will anything ever change?

Not sure if it's a question for a mod, but: another "general discussion room for Mathematics" was automatically created on September 12. (This is different from a meta.math room I found earlier). Why would that happen?
@user7530 My guess for "how will anything change?": we will build enough evidence for SE to implement a check or repeated del/undel votes.

@user7530 Also, it's a bit of a stretch to equate the removal of some off-topic comments with the prohibition on discussion of del/undel cycles. The topic was supposed to be Why close old questions with accepted answers using the “no context” reason? not when to delete questions? or how to stop the delete-undelete loops?

@Fundamental @Fundamental Well one answer was "so that the question will be auto-deleted" which immediately leads to your questions. Also, there is quite a difference between deleting flagged off-topic comments, and locking all comments, which on meta more or less silences all discussion on a topic.

@user7530 Constructive conversations are more than permitted. They are encouraged. But what we have ended up with doesn't exactly seem constructive. There are a lot of pot-shots being taken on both sides. As I mentioned above (and in a comment to the locked post) I'm going to go through and try to salvage what constructive conversations I can. But I was not going to do this "on the fly".
@user7530 And if everyone tacitly agrees to not flag anything, then what? Really, I think that almost a lot of people everyone needed some time to cool down there. Now they have it, and I can get out the X-Acto knife without worrying that the situation is worsening as I'm trying to do this.
This is not something I enjoy doing, but it is something that I felt needed to be done.

Yes, fair enough, that makes sense
