How much time is required to be a moderator?

@Mayo That really varies from one site to another and relates to the size of the team. If you are a regular user of the site, it might not increase the time spent much at all. However, it will shift the way you spend your time.

@Mayo Yeah, it really depends how much time you want to spend. Many mods will just check their sites at lunch and in the evenings and possibly periodically throughout the day as and when they have time (tea breaks at work etc). Some will just pop in once a day or so, and others will be on there all the time (sadly, that's me! - I procrastinate at work and SE is a great procrasination aid!)

Makes sense. I'm concerned that I may be pulled between responsibilities at work and my obligation as a moderator. There are some days (some weeks sometimes) where I am completely consumed by work responsibilities.
At JonW. A couple times a day I can do. I often come to SE to decompress.

Exactly. We don't get hundreds of flags every day. I guess we might be at about 100 flags a month, something like that? So, that's about 3-5 flags a day average. Not sure really, I don't keep track. But I'm pretty pro-active, so close off crap before it gets flagged.

This site got 396 flags last quarter, which isn't a huge amount compared to other graduated sites.

Yeah, but as I say i'm pretty pro-active, so I often get to things before they get flagged. Closed off 3-4 posts today before any flags, and deleted a couple of posts too. Any only a quarter or so of them were flagged.

10:37 PM
Yeah. I should have made it clear it wasn't a criticism. Sometimes a single flag can consume a lot of time too.
