12:00 AM
It's meant to signify a quick look into a Spanish-speaking culture or area, but guess what the videos are played in

@Videonauth we need pictures of your cat

immersion really is the best way to learn anything. no cats plz

for us and for Imgur :p
@RobotHumans wat wai
catz r teh best

if i want cats, i'll browse tumblr.

12:05 AM
although it's shedding season and mine are giving off multiple lbs of fur
@RobotHumans Imgur is catland, Tumblr is crazy-land and funny convo-land

wat

I removed unity and installed gnome.
My system crashed. :D

@Mateo he doesn't explain how he does it though :/
although there might be some useful tidbits there.

12:35 AM
looks like they were in that one file

12:51 AM
which? the yaml? or the wrapper?

wrapper?
> There is nothing too exciting about this file, we set up the fonts path to be inside the snap directory itself (remember snaps are confined) as well as the share folder.
then probably something similar for theme urukrama.wordpress.com/2008/07/13/…

hmm, ok.
I'll need a way to get the wrapper in.. I'll have to work on this later.

1:08 AM
Good luck ;) @Seth

Fatal familial insomnia (FFI) is an extremely rare autosomal dominant inherited prion disease of the brain. It is almost always caused by a mutation to the protein PrPC, but can also develop spontaneously in patients with a non-inherited mutation variant called sporadic fatal insomnia (sFI). FFI has no known cure and involves progressively worsening insomnia, which leads to hallucinations, delirium, and confusional states like that of dementia. The average survival span for patients diagnosed with FFI after the onset of symptoms is 18 months. The mutated protein, called PrPSc, has been found in...
sweet dreams

So, this was an interesting paper

why?

@Mateo I can't see getting from that blog post to an actual snap being that hard. Do I need to jump in on the desktop broadcast bash script thingamadoo?
@Seth ^^

@RobotHumans I'm missing something on that last part there.

1:15 AM
Your casting app. Do you want help or do you want to figure it out.

ohhhh. I think I want to figure it out. But I will ping you if I have any questions, how does that sound? :)

I'm not really good at that... I can sort of make it work - or leave it alone.

Snaps aren't so hard of themselves, but figuring out how to arrange the yaml file in a way that snapcraft will build is tricky, especially when half the options aren't documented.
@RobotHumans Oh okay then.
well I don't have time to work on it right now anyway.
Friday might be the next real amount of time I have, we'll see. I feel like I'm close though so maybe I can sneak it in.

@Seth That sounds like Minecraft server plugins
except those actually have an excuse
@Videonauth thanks for sharing BTW :)

@RobotHumans I'm kinda happy though because I ranted about it on twitter and sabdfl messaged me and basically asked "how can we make it better"

1:18 AM
@Zacharee1 but Java. so, our bad.

@Zacharee1 uh you left me confused in this moment

wat @RobotHumans
@Videonauth the email

it's the minecraft excuse

ah ok yeah :)

@Seth Well, if you have it debianized, it should be a button to make it a snap. such that the name holds. do you have it debianized?

1:19 AM
@RobotHumans oh, I was thinking more along the lines of the plugins being developed for free by independent developers in their spare time
@Videonauth (:
(switchin' it up :p)
@ByteCommander that won't be a problem >:D

askubuntu.com/q/780111/522934 anyone here maybe an idea about this question? I'm at a loss.

@Videonauth commented
Canonical needs to port Ubuntu Touch officially to more devices. As it stands, we currently don't have many experienced users to answer the rising numbers of UT questions.

i mean which file system did i forget to cover ? :)
do the mac users have another filesystem i might not have covered ?

Well I just think it's a hardware error. Can they not format it (necessary data? error?)
@Videonauth Mac uses HFS+, but I don't think that applies to SD cards

mhmm no not really
as far i found out in the web the cards come as FAT FAT16 or FAT32 and in some cases exfat

1:28 AM
^^ @Seth - no connective tissues in the logic tree, but it should be obvious

Mark this question as a dupe of the second thing I linked: askubuntu.com/questions/780134/…
@Videonauth do they need data from it?

yes and he checked the card from the device itself which is an kind of flight recorder for vehicles
and it contains data

so it's a dashcam card?

@RobotHumans yeah it's debianized, but that doesn't make it as easy as you think.

@Seth I didn't say does. I said should.

1:32 AM
I mean sure, I could just import the deb, but that means I have to make a deb..
Once you get the snap working it should theoretically just be 1 command to update the app later.

I get that. What I was driving at, is a "snap packaging app" should see the dependency chains, walk them, and put them in the "niggly bits" section. Separate from the app. So, it turns the .deb into a build recipe.

yeah

@Zacharee1 no dashcam its this one obd2works.com/…

if the docs were better it probably wouldn't have taken as long to figure out where to put the dependencies.

@RobotHumans some nice descriptions there

1:35 AM
It's how I talk.

@Videonauth oh it's audio?
@RobotHumans I like it :p

no motor data, gravity and so on
a flight recorder

@Zacharee1 Then, later you get to answer the question "My app doesn't work" with "Check the niggly bits"

@Videonauth ahh

they are quite useful if you have to prove for insurance that you not have been to fast and so on

1:37 AM
I thought it was your word-choice :p

@Zacharee1 nope this time no German word craziness

lol

@Videonauth Your german! :O

yep

It's not like his login is schadenfreude or anything XD

1:39 AM
@Videonauth idk, it seems like it should be FAT32
@RobotHumans malicious joy?

@Zacharee1 The joy derived from the misery of others.

==malicious joy

Yes. or ~=

nope my login name is Videonauth ;) and my password well something similar to this
FyU_da\&[HbtqM,EzZ}W<ge:/(n6cO

o-o

+50 Again

@Videonauth LastPass?

I have a utm. :)

and simply disabled scripts everywhere i can

what, you mean you don't just rely on a lvl 20+ game guide that allows constitution over 25, so you can just have bullet proof skin - sorry combination AD&D joke and movie reference.

[ SmokeDetector ] Link at end of body: ./configure doesn't work by Citizen Jonesy on askubuntu.com …

i know the site im posting now is german but it properly checks passwords for their strength

@SmokeDetector false alarm

I wonder how much strength is in fact added by breaking string parsers by including list or function delimiters to a passowrd. It seems like it should cause a lot of problems for sloppy code.

@RobotHumans thats the problem with all encryption implementations in fact same applies for passwords, if the algorythm is holed like a swiss chees theres no security
and then comes into account he internet itself with vulnerable server systems etc
and even a hashed pw can be broken with rainbow tables meanwhile
does a salt come into this it makes it more difficult

Simple is fine. Strength is length. Has been my tenet for a long time.

1:54 AM
but only way to be secure is really regularly changing them even if they are strong
and all of that is in the end bound to the amount of entropy the rng produces
and i dont believe that many people have a true rng generator with ceasium in it

Eh, nap. B(ack)W(hen)S(omething)W(orks)... BWSW

@RobotHumans oh lol, name change... just noticed you seemed familiar ;)

1 hour later…
@Videonauth are you going to sleep or woke up from one or not going to bother about it?

sleep is for the weak :)

I guess I'm weak then ;)

for the mere mortals :p

If I don't get at least 7 hours I can't function.

3:18 AM
well i most of the time dont sleep i only lay on my bed and try to rest somehow
@Seth without medication impossible for me

:(
That shouldn't be a thing.
Ugh. I feel so sick now. I had to finish homework and I didn't eat dinner. 3 hours later...

alone to advise rm -rf in that case is potentionally dangerous

this way the user could have ended up with an empty /root directory

yup
Note to self: don't attempt to login as root as it triggered my low graphics problem

you should fix this

i did

not avoiding the problem
just sad i cant see deleted posts yet

3:29 AM
by "foxing" the boot files
then deleting ubuntu
and upgrading Ubuntu

how much rep is needed for that? @Seth

probs the thousands?

@Videonauth wow that was stupid.. that would have deleted the user's home folder -.-

LOL

@Videonauth for what?

3:31 AM
@Edity please remove it

i am eating something in black and white

@Seth yep i saw that diirectly, this i did DV him and commented

@Videonauth +1 for renaming it before deleting it. That lowers the chances of an accident happening by quite a lot.

yeah that is how i would approach it
this way nothing is lost, just in case

@Videonauth +1 for me too

3:35 AM
i was knowing there was an question like that before, but hell ever tried to search the site for ~

@HenryWHHack welcome

Hey guys, good evening. Would this be an appropriate place to ask a quick, informal question about Arch Linux?

Normally: General discussion around Ask Ubuntu, Ubuntu & official Ubuntu derivatives. For other Linux distros please see: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/26/dev-chat @Marc.2377

@Edity Make the link look good.

ok
what should I name my chat room

3:50 AM
Thank you.

@Edity Edity is not a mod!

@HenryWHHack any idea what I should make my chat room name?

yes
edity editor boot.

description?

That's your choice.
I think a mod may delete your chatroom.

3:55 AM
ok then I won't make one

I said I think.

Wait.
Keep me out of this.

it would stop your money for 30,000,000,000 years

Okay no mods are watching.
I hope.
The reason is if I own SE I will become a super mod and If I become a super mod I will have control of all the mods. >:)

@HenryWHHack gone
means remove

The mods are doing there jobs. :)

It isn't necessarily the moderator's job to remove spam.
It's up to the community to flag it.

So the mods don't remove the spam?

like stack says: We don't run StackExchange. You do.

5:08 AM
@HenryWHHack They can but it isn't their job.

@HenryWHHack It's the community's job. They don't run this site. We do. We are like a mini admin building up to a big admin

I was brainwashed.

I was tea-rexed

Liquid Nitrogen may be used for cooling an overclocked system, when an extreme measure of cooling is needed.

I actually saw a video of that experiment on youtube

link?

oh let me find it, it is long time past

10:22 AM
Seems a bit quite in here today...

user136984
Anyone about? :)

sure
@JacobVlijm did you see my question?

@Videonauth I am not sure I am a "standard" example (I didn't have any coding experience at all before I started with python, apart from some applescript and Filemaker Pro "scripting", which is not much more then an if/else sequence). In the first start, I did some extremely simple tutorial on the web, I don't remember what it was.
Then I even bought O'Reily's book, but I can't remember ever reading it. The way I learned most was by writing this one launchpad.net/jonb.homelauncher. Rewriting it currently in a completely different style, but it still works perfectly on 16.04. In other words: the only way to learn for me is to have a goal, and learn on the way. The only way that works for me.

10:39 AM
Well I'm comming from the c++ side so the python sources look very alien to me, guess i have to find at least a basic tut on the syntax to get started

@Videonauth starting from scratch, my biggest source was SO. But if you know C++, python will be a piece of cake for you!

user136984
Is anyone here running Ubuntu Unity and whiling to test something for me?

@ParanoidPanda What do you need ?

user136984
Try launching xdiagnose through the UI (not Terminal). Let me know what happens.

user136984
It should prompt you for a root password and then launch, but it's not actually doing anything at all over here, so I just need to know if it's a gnome-shell issue or otherwise...

10:41 AM
@ParanoidPanda acting normal here

user136984
Are you running 16.04?

same here, starts and presents me with the entry screen

@ParanoidPanda Yes

user136984
Ok, then it's a GNOME issue...

user136984
10:46 AM
@Videonauth: Could you paste the contents of its .desktop file here please? :)

user136984
Just like to make sure that it's the same over here...

Perhaps GNOME just has some issue with pkexec, do you know of any other applications using it to run?

user136984
Well, I guess I could just run a search through the .desktop files...

try runing it with gksudo ?
thats in package gksu

Anonymous PlatypusI have found out this file while learning about Ubuntu file system today under the location /usr/share/applications/. What actually is the purpose of this file. Googling doesn't pop up anything I was looking for.

@ParanoidPanda good canidate for testing is maybe synaptic

I think user Masi is asking WAY too many unclear questions....

I've posted a comment with a possible answer (yes, I know that I should make an answer, but I did not know if the my answer was right). A minute after, two users posted an answer that is very similar to my comment. Should I get anger? Maybe simply ignore it? Maybe these users did that without seeing my comment.

user136984
@Helio: I would at least get grumpy... They probably saw your comment and as you hadn't posted an answer, they decided to. Or maybe they just didn't see your comment... Or perhaps thought of it before they saw your comment and decided it was as much an answer from them as from you... There was a thing on Meta about this sort of thing a while ago, and the general message was that if you didn't post it as an answer and someone stole it from you, it's your fault.

12:15 PM
@ParanoidPanda: Ok, effectively, is my fault. I'll simply ignore that. Currently the question is well answered.
