This'll be exciting to test out tomorrow:
* for (int i = 0; i <= 15; i++) {
*  int sread = Serial2.read();
*  int pin [i] = sread; //hopefully receives 0-15
*
*  if (!(Serial2.read() == sread)) {
*    Serial.println("Please enter a valid integer");
*  }
* }
*
* for (int i = 0; i <= 15; i++ {
*  x = gnd [i];
*  if ((x >= 8) && (x <= 15)) {
*    dw(x, HIGH);
*  }
*  else if ((x >= 0) && (x <=7)) {
*    dw(x, LOW);
*  }
*
* //add other ifs here for the other functions
* }
I'm not so sure about whether or not that integer verification will work, but we'll see

@Zacharee1 it's always been 2m in chat.

I thought it was 5
I'm pretty sure I've edited messages older than 2 minutes before

Hello.

Hi

Did we ever reach a consensus on renaming this room?
I personally favor "The Orange Room".

Idk
I wasn't really involved in that discussion

hey guys! I have touchscreen that works on windows but not on ubuntu. Though using xinput I can get the coordinates, but these are absolute.

Q: What is a temporary folders, how and where to create them?

MorpheusI type in terminal: ./netbeans-8.1-linux.sh ..and then: << root@kali:/home/Downloads# ./netbeans-8.1-linux.sh Configuring the installer... There is not enough free disk space to extract installation data 208 MB of free disk space is required in a temporary folder. Clean up the disk space and run...

VTC as dupe

@Serg but it's not. It's got that extra bit

Since this is non-distro specific, close as dupe
Id gladly kick it for being kali
@Zacharee1 what extra bit ?

OP wants to know what a temp folder is
I didn't notice it was Kali :p

OP has issue with installation where /tmp isn't large enough
There's only one /tmp

1:27 AM
Yes, but OP is also asking what a temporary folder is

You can make temp files not directories

They don't only want a solution

That's /tmp . . . More specifically tmpfs mounted at /tmp

But that isn't explained in the dupe

@Zacharee1 <.< OP doesn't always know what they want
Customers aren't always right

1:29 AM
lol, well I think we should have an answer explaining that to them
And c'mon, I had an answer 3/4 done when you posted that :p
@Serg:
> A temporary folder is pretty self-explanatory. It's a folder that is created as a location to store some files for a short period of time. In your case, this folder is meant to hold the files necessary to set up NetBeans.

NetBeans is trying to use `/tmp` as the folder where it stores its installation files. There seems to be a configuration error with `/tmp`.

To fix the issue, refer to the link [Serg](http://askubuntu.com/users/295286/serg) posted: http://askubuntu.com/questions/199565/update-failing-not-enough-space-on-tmp.

Anyone know how to reassemble an HTTP conversation from a capture of TCP packets in Wireshark?

@NathanOsman O_o
no
I've tried, and it's annoying
I do know a bit about filters though

Me too but that doesn't help.

@Zacharee1 you're just being sore that a question is closed. A dupe is a dupe, deal with it :p

@Serg NO >:(
:p
But it isn't closed
@NathanOsman do you have an opinion on this?

1:34 AM
Nope.

Do you want to form one?

@Zacharee1 ok, you post an answer, but it still will be closed as explanation of what temp folder is is irrelevant. OP has issue, and it's addressed in the dupe. What use is explanation if you don't solve a problem ? Bring value to customers that's the real task

@Serg My opinion on semi-dupes is that you should explain what isn't the dupe and then link to what is a dupe in the answer.
I remember someone solving this problem here: askubuntu.com/questions/768243/…

But that's not semi dupe. OP has issue with /tmp, that's what they really care about.

That's not what the title says :p
Anyway, I canceled the answer. it's time for bed

1:39 AM
-_- like i said, title doesn't always express what OP needs.
I'm the same way, i don't always have words to explain my main intent
@Zacharee1 Well, you were not prohibited from posting an answer, it's just that the question will be closed

MorpheusI need more disk space at /tmp and /usr folders. How will achieve this...

I just linked you a dupe you dummy !!

@Seth LOL.

Are people just dumb ?
@SQuirel blackbox, 9wm is very very light but has a bit of learning curve. Because you create windows with mouse

2:23 AM
LXDE is the lightest one I've used.
Runs smooth as a whistle on an Atom CPU with 1 GB of RAM.
That's an accomplishment in my books.
No wait...
That wasn't LXDE.
That was enlightenment. Oops.

wait it was enlightenment? I presented enlightenment as a joke lol

Indeed it was.

Hi world :D
@NathanOsman All politicians are corrupt. We just favor some lies more than others :D

Not all are corrupt. I know some local politicians personally.
None at the national level, though :D

Most of the big ones are :D

I would agree with the most of the big ones bit

No idea what on earth I would use it for though.

Probably.

That's not what you asked.

12.10 to 14.04 is 3 release cycles. So, three pen drives. You asked about one.

why not try the answer? seems like if you wanted to know, you would try the answer.
if I did all the work and gave you paste-able commands. the next question would be "but I have this PPA enabled, and the dependencies break. fix it for me. i can't find anything. i won't google anything or try anything. just give me the answer." so, i'm calling the conversation finished.

Just to let you know guys.... I'm documenting the whole experience of AskUbuntu and StackOF since I found "antagonization". It is not a sane social behavior to do that and will be denounced to general public. So go on clean your past posts before I get to them. — user3005629 5 mins ago

bad bad @terdon what did you do to this poor user :p
i hope you take this ine with a grain of salt tho

I had the audacity to disagree. I think I have comported myself with restraint but I may be wrong, I guess. He certainly seems to think so.

dont worry your posts are perfectly fine
i still dont get the ide everything behind multiple clicks thing
i in fact hate that
a well designed UI hides nothing and makes every move count

Yeah, so do I.

well im not using gedit when it comes to gui edit :) im a follower of scintilla using scite

10:19 AM
I edited out the lego part just like the toothpaste part.

i find it sad that his childish behavior got deleted to be honest @jokerdino

There is no good coming out of it.

kos
@terdon No, IMO simply they can't handle confrontation in other ways than being condescending and rude. If disagreement was to be considered irriverence, why would we even have Meta or democracy? IMO you were simply direct on that post, and at no point whatsoever rude or offensive.

sure it not add to a professional discourse, but on the other hand people could se his kind of behavior

@jokerdino Yeah, sorry about the toothpaste bit. It was kinda tongue in cheek, but it wasn't helpful.

10:22 AM
That might be what triggered him lol.
@Videonauth I didnt delete the comments. I only edited one comment.

theres a saying if you cant stand the heat dont light the fire :)

@jokerdino I guess. I feel I bent over backwards to be polite and patient after that though. Actually, I wanted to ask if you agree. It's easy for one to think they're being polite when they aren't. Do let me know if you feel I was out of line, please.

Majority of the discussion was mostly OK. But something seemed to have happened again today.

@terdon i have read your comments and i think theyre perfectly fine giving the circumstances

Right, thanks.

10:26 AM
i just wonder where his go and play lego comment went

@jokerdino I didn't set him off this time. He left another comment and I answered in the most conciliatory tone I could.
@Videonauth He probably deleted it. He wants to show the mean comments he received, so leaving his around wouldn't help his case.

yeah i guess so since he couldnt edit it anymore
i think comments should ot be deletable after a certain amount of time

@Videonauth I edited it and he has since then deleted a bunch of comments.

to prevent such things
to me it seems like trolling on its finest
sorry to say that

10:28 AM
I am just going to assume best intentions and move on.

im not someone who jumps to easy conclsion when it comes to discurse but this is how it look like for me

Perhaps, the best way for this discussion to proceed further is if he gets some opinion from User Experience.

How to get a list of all the databases via MySQL cli?

@blade19899 I think it's something like LIST database;
Or SHOW

@Zacharee1 SHOW and LIST: ...You have an error in your SQL syntax;...

@blade19899 login with mysql -u username -p
then type
show databases;
dont forget the semicolon at the end
+--------------------+
Database
+--------------------+
information_schema
mysql
performance_schema
phpmyadmin
sys
typo_1_db
wp_1_db
+--------------------+
7 rows in set (0,12 sec)
example output

So plural
Idk much about SQL :p

# Connect to the local server
mysql -u root -h localhost -p  -e 'show databases;'

# Connect to the remote mysql server
mysql -u root -h 192.168.1.250 -p  -e 'show databases;'
also works

@Videonauth already connected to it, and have a list of my databases

just wanted to give you a complete answer :)

Don't wanna export them all manually!
HELP! :D

mysqldump

12:17 PM
@Videonauth I perfected the following command, but it just creates the .sql file, with no content:
> sudo mysql -u adminusers -p -N -e 'show databases;' | while read dbname; do mysqldump --complete-insert --single-transaction "$dbname" > "$dbname".sql; done
I get the following error:
> "mysqldump: Got error: 1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) when trying to connect"
Do I need to login as root to be able to do that?

sec
mysqldump -u root -p -A > databases.dump
dumps all into one file
no need to mysql first

@Videonauth I know that, but need to import them latter on, so need to have all the db separate with the right name and all.

sudo mysql -u adminusers -p -N -e 'show databases;' | while read dbname; do mysqldump -u adminusers -p --complete-insert --single-transaction "$dbname" > "$dbname".sql; done
but that ould need you to do that line for each db one and supplying your pw twice

[ SmokeDetector ] Blacklisted website in body, link at end of body: What Is Luxia No 7? by bellaoliver on askubuntu.com

ok this works but need a password often, very often
i think you might remind that password then for ages if you do this for 208 databases
maybe providing the password directly in the line

@Zacharee1 I saw, thanks, but I'm afraid that will just restart everything.

@Videonauth I'd still flag them for now

@terdon I was finally able to solve my GRUB problem with Arch/Ubuntu btw.
It was actually too simple...
Not sure whether nuking the /boot files of Arch would have been enough, but update-grub still detected Arch after that, so I decided to just format it.

as you where speaking of grub isnt there a gui tool to setup grub ? like changing the grub menu color and stuff ?

12:58 PM
There's grub-customizer from a PPA.
But it messes up your config files by using proxy scripts, so if you use it, tweaking the config scripts manually afterwards becomes horrible.

ah ok

@ByteCommander Oh hey, cool! Please post an answer explaining what you did. That way you'll also get the bounty!

@terdon See the link, that's my self-answer.

Nice! Here, have a bounty for your effort.

Wow, thanks for that, and also again thank you for the effort you put into this issue here in chat. I would probably not have been able to solve it without the insights we got together.

@ByteCommander You're very welcome. It was an interesting problem with a simpler solution than I expected.

Shog9I think we can all agree, this sucks: If you've been around a little while, you've probably encountered hundreds of answers like this in various forums, some of them even marked as "The Answer" by well-meaning1 forum admins looking to close a thread. The example above was d), a signpost pointing to where an answer might be found if you're willing to spend 10 minutes listening to some idiot kid who loves to hear himself speak go over a 10 minute introduction about how happy they are you're watching and what this video will explain before it even starts explaining anything.
In case it wasn't clear from above, I am not a fan of youtube tutorials :P

to be honest it depends on the tutorial, ones where the guy is not speaking but instead typing into an edito sucks the most, then there (sorry not intend to offend someone) som indish people with bad english explain something, and then there are the ones which are good recorded with perfect english and up to that helpful

@Videonauth The latter, sadly, are one in a million.

indeed

I still prefer text over video. I can skip to the interesting part in text and I can search through it!

depends im doing lots of 3d stuff as hobby and there tutorials are mostly better than text

Yes, not optimal, but not bad enough to get deleted, especially as it's the only and accepted answer.

i could edit it and buff it up a bit
shall I ?

o/ serg

@Serg Good morning!
@Videonauth Thanks, looks good. Normally I would say this edit is too major and against the author's intent, but in this case it's definitely better than having that post getting deleted.

@ByteCommander Good morning to you as well !
What's new , folks ?

Hi guys
Can anyone find logkeys in the software center?
0
Q: Any keylogger for ubuntu 16.04?

nazar2sfiveWhen I search for 'keylogger' in ubuntu software, it provides me none.

@ByteCommander yeah i normaly dont do such major edits but in this case like you said one less questioin unanswered

Yes, and now the delete votes got cleared as well.

2:17 PM
@MohitRajan Did you try, for example, pasting your question into google?

Not sure if by the upvotes or by the edit, but they're gone.

@ByteCommander I've never understood that concept. If the edit improves the quality of the answer and, by extension, the site, screw the author's intent. If they object, they can roll back.
4

@MohitRajan try apt-cache search keylogg

@terdon @Videonauth i am finding it by using apt-cache but not in software center

@MohitRajan OK, then please edit your question and make that clear. Also explain why that is an issue. Are you asking how to install a keylogger or are you asking why a specific piece of software is in the repositories but not the software center? Those are two different questions.

2:20 PM
@MohitRajan simply sudo apt-get install logkeys

Agree with terdon , the author's intent is irrelevant. Answers supposed to bring value to the site and people who view them overall

@terdon @Serg I agree here, but if the edit would be too major, the action of choice should be downvoting the existing and posting a correct answer - or not?

@terdon i am asking why a specific piece of software is in the repositories but not the software center

normaly yes, but it never would get accepted, i have no clue how many dead accounts this site has
which never come back

@MohitRajan OK, then please go edit your question and make that clear.

2:22 PM
@terdon the question was not asked by me. I just found it odd
that pecific piece of software is in the repositories but not the software center

@ByteCommander No. Why? I have often taken a crappy answer like ("Read this blog post, the answer is there") and have copied the instructions from the linked post, edited them into shape and completely changed the original answer. That's a huge edit but I would never reject such because it's "too extensive".

@ByteCommander Like the terdon said - they can always roll back. Same as with git - if I don't like your changes to my code , I won't merge your edits into my code , simple as that. If I like it - sure , let's keep it.

@MohitRajan Oh, damn, sorry. Your avatars look very similar.

there are many many entries in the repos which dont show up in the new sowftware center

@Videonauth use synaptic instead ... still the best GUI SC ... :)

thanks for the answer @Videonauth

yeah i have no problems with that i not even use synaptic i mostly doe apt-cache search and then install

2:30 PM
iI usually use aptitude

@Videonauth so do I ... but synaptic includes every software as well ... so when it comes to GUI way of install use that :)
Hi @Seth ! :)
@MohitRajan aptitude is also a good alternative :)

One good thing about snappy is that it should bring about simpler method of app installation and that also means potentially simpler and more workable GUI Software Center

ill wait with using snaps until the whole system behind it is far more polished as it is today
but maybe im just a dinosaur :) comming thaight out of the CP/M era
i just feel most comfortable in terminal

Me too, I install 98% of my packages with apt-get :D
And I'm definitely no dinosaur yet...

@ByteCommander now you can use apt install as well ... fully supported in xenial ... Hi ! :)

user139252
2:43 PM
How exactly are snaps different from regular app installations?

@Videonauth inspiration ^

Isn't apt-get a front-end for apt since... ever?

oh good ol times tho

2:44 PM
@ByteCommander yes .. sudo apt install ... :)

And what's the advantage of that over apt-get? (except 4 keystrokes)?

Meanwhile, I'm getting hungry and misreading Beaglebone as Bagelbone
