Music interface for the BrownCloud

Do the questions from this user seem like they could be mostly avoided by looking at the documentation?
@TheBrownOne cool!

user139252
To use: Upload music, log-in in the browser, go to Personal, point it to your directory, go to Music instead of Files

@Zacharee1 indeed my thought or better to say im close to write RTFM :p

Gah, the ownCloud sync client is so annoying sometimes
idk why, but it seems to decide that it no longer wants to sync inside the website folder, so it just uploads everything to the home folder

Deleted the sync connection, re-added it, tested it, then deleted the extra folders
@TheBrownOne guess

I'm using the 14.04 on 16.04 without any problems :p

Hi world

Hello, SQL squirrel :)

morning serg
how are you today ?

Evening here, 12:22 AM , about to go to bed, but wanna wait for response form one OP. Or maybe i should just post first

anyone who may have a look at my script example here for corectness, typed it out of my head from my mobile askubuntu.com/a/764747/522934

Very decent. OP however wants something like -a -b flags thing. Let me actually post something . . .

6:31 AM
just read it very nice i never thought of doing my scripts like that
especially your style of script alows for even recursive work
while my style is more linear programming

@Videonauth your style is the way shell scripts are properly done. I'm just using more C-like style , because I sort of miss it :D Also because I am a weird dude. But yeah, using functions like that allows recursion which is really cool.

the OP is sadly now that he got answers suddendly very picky, have a look at his comments :)

@Seth @jokerdino May someone please merge

Why was this closed as off-topic?

kos
@ParanoidPanda It depends on the memory's type (most PCs use DDR3 nowadays) and speed: you should be able to use a stick faster than the maximum speed supported by the "other" motherboard (though it will be slowed down), but not to use a stick slower than the minimum speed supported by the "other" motherboard

user136984
@kos: Right, thanks! So how do I find out the memory type and other necessary information for this?

kos
@ParanoidPanda Hm, sudo dmidecode -t17 for the speed, but I don't remember how to check the type.
Ah, dmidecode actually reports also the type.

Any git experts around?
I'm trying to pull changes into my branch from the master branch and, despite there being differences, git pull origin master (when run from my branch) does nothing and tells me everything is up to date.
However, when I switch to the master branch, I can see the changes are there. I can also see them with git diff master filename.

there is origin/master and then there is the local master.
try git remote -v update
it should keep your branches up to date with remote.

@jokerdino They're up to date. I've already run git checkout master; git pull.

maybe you are looking for merge?
I only get these things right when I am messing with it.

11:18 AM
$ git merge master
Already up-to-date.
$ git diff master common.ph | wc
183     754    6565
Both run from my branch.

what does git status say?

>Your branch is ahead of 'origin/terdon' by 58 commits.
(use "git push" to publish your local commits)
But that's because the upstream of my branch is terdon, not master. I'm trying to bring in the changes from master into terdon.
$ git checkout master
Switched to branch 'master'
Your branch is up-to-date with 'origin/master'.
$ git pull
Already up-to-date.
And master is up to date.

Hold on, let me look into my repo to get an idea on how to proceed.

Thanks. I'm writing up a question on SO too.

To clarify, you want to pull changes from origin/master to master?

11:28 AM
@jokerdino No, I want to pull changes from origin/master to terdon.

Are you in terdon branch then?

@jokerdino Yes. This might clarify: stackoverflow.com/questions/36937207/…

I think that might be your case.
try to git log --graph

Hang on, let me read that.
OK. What am I looking for?

Check if all commits in the remote branch is already in your local branch.
If yes, it will claim to be up to date. So, you should be pushing rather than pulling.

11:33 AM
Huh? But I can see differences in the master that are not in mine.

The top one is my latest commit in the terdon branch. The one below is telling me I merged master -> terdon. Great, but if so, where are the changes in master? How come I can't see them?

can you find any diff between terdon and master?
git diff terdon master

Loads:
$ git diff cchapple master | wc
   1940    8389   77113

how is your .gitignore looking?

I've never touched it, that shouldn't be the issue.
If it's supposed to be in the same directory, I don't even have one.

master is in sync with origin/master.
terdon is in sync with origin/terdon.

You want to bring changes from origin/master to terdon.

11:39 AM
Yup
$ git pull origin/master
fatal: 'origin/master' does not appear to be a git repository
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

use checkout for that.

@jokerdino ?
But my local master branch is up to date with the remote. All the changes I want to bring in are already in my local master branch.

git checkout origin/master newname
let's do it from scratch

That tries to check out a file called newname from origin/master

lets see if it is your working branch or something weird.
oh crap. forgot the -b switch

11:41 AM
Ah, right: git checkout origin/master -b newname ?

yess

$ git checkout origin/master -b newname
Branch newname set up to track remote branch master from origin.
Switched to a new branch 'newname'

git diff newname master
if you got changes, then master has some commits that are not in the remote branch.

Nope, no changes
No output

same case with terdon branch too?

11:50 AM
Hang on
No, git diff newname terdon returns loads of changes, as expected.
Those are the ones I want to merge.

That looks like you got changes in terdon that are not in origin/master.
Your commit 800a899f might match with the diff.

@jokerdino I have changes in terdon that aren't in master and changes in master that aren't in terdon.

OK, are there new commits in master after you merged from master?

Um. I don't know, how would I check that?
Well, I do know that local master is up to date with remote, if that's what you mean.

git log origin/master --oneline
You can visualize the changes if you got gitk somewhere.

11:59 AM
I'm working on a remote machine with no X access.
@jokerdino That returns loads of stuff. Looks like the history of commits in master.

use --graph then
@terdon compare them with commits that you merged into terdon

And yet, I don't see the changes that should be there and are there in the master when I check it out.

Are there any uncommitted changes in your working directory?

NOpe
git status would show that even if they were stashed, right?
(terdon) $ git stash list
stash@{0}: WIP on terdon: a7877dd Merge branch 'master' of github.com:foo/foo into terdon
stash@{1}: WIP on issue_429: 91056aa Merge branch 'master' of github.com:foo/foo into issue_429
stash@{2}: WIP on novoalign: 9062f0d novoalign fastq2bam
stash@{3}: WIP on 20160126: c580983 Merging master

Not sure about stash. Try checking out your last commit on terdon and comparing it with master.

?

git checkout 800a899f -b terdoncommit
see if that works
we are going to find any difference between your working directory and terdoncommit branch.

12:17 PM
That will create a new branch called terdoncomit, right?

yes

OK, that worked, I'm in the new branch now.

git diff terdoncommit terdon

No output

try merging with master now

12:21 PM
(terdoncommit) $ git pull origin master
From github.foo/foo
 * branch            master     -> FETCH_HEAD
Already up-to-date.

that should be it. Every change you require from master is already there..
I gotta go now. If it is not urgent, I might help you with it again when I am back.

I know dammit. That's what it looks like. But they're not there! This is really annoying.
@jokerdino Of course. Thank you very much for your help!

if you want to, you can maybe try to cherry pick your latest commit in terdon on orig/master.
I dont know the syntax for cherry pick but I have done it a couple times.
Try to do it in a separate directory just to be safe.
ok cya later!

Well since now I will start doing that . . . You never know when a stranger in a dark alley will cross your path and in raspy voice ask "GIMME YOUR RESUME"
Nice passport shot
He has such a determined look. totally not like a serial killer of some sort

On my passport photo i look like a serial killer, because i was in a killer mood after i found out how expensive biometric right photos are (30 euros), man i was so pissed and well guess how i look like

People do paper resumes?

biometric photos ? what ?
Yeah, still do. Classics :D

yep photos for german passports have to be in a certain way which is strickly normed

I am planning to upgrade 14.04->16.04. What happens to my 2 year worth of customizations,scripts and apps? Will it download all those applications again?

@shsh typically when you upgrade, most things should remain unchanged. Apps , if there are newer versions for them, will get upgraded. Generally, you don't want to just plunge into upgrade. Backup and then upgrade.

I will back up. I am on slow connection I am trying to get an idea how much it will download.

Also I want to know how will systemd comes into the picture. What happens to the scripts custumizaitons?

@shsh do you have any init scripts ? in /etc/init/ or /etc/init.d/ folder ?

@Serg I dnt think I have. That is the problem. I am not sure, it is like I read something on webpage edited some files pasted terminal commands to echo out somewhere and forgot about it.

@chaskes yeah, very promising glance into future Ubuntu stuff - I heard they are making an installer interface for the x apps, can't wait

3:44 PM
@shsh well, if you didn't have anything custom there, then you shouldn't worry

@shsh I usually buy another hard drive, install fresh, try important things out - don't like, or cant do everything, go back by swaping the drive back out, best way really, there always seems to never something
Also this:
Also all the time saved if you know it worked in your old install, vs trying to get something working is worth the money for the drive

@Mateo oh bugs.. I probably would not have noticed that bug I have always preferred using gdebi or dpkg command.
@Serg Thanks. I have started it. Hope it goes well.
