Good night. I'm sure I'll have bad dreams of electrons jumping through molecular orbitals... :P

The payload (Dragon spacecraft with supplies for the ISS including the ISSpresso coffee machine) was launched correctly, but the landing on "Just Read the Instructions” didn't work correctly. The rocket landed, but then toppled over due to excess lateral velocity.

jrg
@NathanOsman that's not my concerns, my concerns is managing the deployment of the container...

@jrg I know - this was unrelated to our earlier discussion.

jrg
what do you do if a process dies?
but that's really nifty. :-)

Yeah, I thought it was :)
That's one thing CoreOS doesn't do for me - set up a VPN.

jrg
1:07 AM
hm. didn't know that.
figured coreos would do it

I think it expects something more like Amazon's VPC where a private network is isolated from the other machines in the datacenter (not the case for Digital Ocean).
Though you'd still need a VPN for deploying to multiple datacenters...

jrg
@JourneymanGeek So uh, I used to be one of the core kandan folks. What features are missing in your opinion?

ubuntu is missing feature #1 ;P
anyway, has anyone tried out snappy core. I installed it on my pi, looks promising

<--- is playing with Juju ATM

oh fun
I wanted to try some of the openstack stuff out, got a bunch of computers, just need to take a day and install and try it

1:15 AM
@jrg editing/deletion, starwall. Can't remember if kandan does replies.
Might get an install up again. Turns out I have an easy way to expose vms to the ipv4 internet :p

Aw... the website seems to be down.

(My ISP finally stopped port blocking on ipv6 and cloudflare seems to do decent gateways for ipv4 clients and ipv6 servers(

jrg
OK.

1:37 AM
Yeah, there are existing bugs for these :p

Docker Swarm looks interesting.
Oh hey - I just noticed there's a datacenter in Frankfurt now.

@hbdgaf So it's confirmed.. My motherboard is toast.
Guess what, this just happens to be a known Elitebook issue.. yeah.
Aaand I just bumped the power cord and lost all my work.
Can't afford to get it replaced.

@Seth: Other than on the low end... HPs are pretty universally shit. :/

@JourneymanGeek I'd get a Lenovo if I could.. I've never owned anything other than HP. All the computers in the house are HP (side effect of living with an HP employee).
Personally though I can't stand Acer or Dell and I don't have much love for Toshiba either.
Maybe I'm too picky :p
(well I can stand some Dell's, XPS 13 for e.g.)

@Seth: They're low power but the stream netbooks are sweet. Laptop wise, I've been all thinkpad
And at 300ish dollars, I don't really think I'll shed too many tears over a dead stream, other than maybe sentimental value ;p

lol. Better than pink?

I guess ;)

I figured I'd just sticker it.

I've never gotten BT working in linux, even with fedora.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way... When I came in, the question had -6 downvotes due to the rant-like question. I edited it to something more appropriate and only then did the question and answer start racking upvotes.
The second user came in and answered when the question's down-votes were **already reversed** and/or upvoted (due to the edit I did)
So he'll never get the reversal badge regardless of the upvotes you give him now!

It will *definitely will not* rack up as much votes as it's on hold. These questions tend to be read much less often. (though this answer is better then the previous one) ;-)
This is a totally different scenario:
I helped close this Q off as it had very little substance to it, whereas the other question had a lot that even had one of our local gods ask a question on this on meta.stackexchange.com

Good evening everyone (GMT +6)
I need a help

Hi there.

I can't use non-regular variant (such as Light, SemiBold etc) of a font in Trusty. Every time i select those, it all displays regular. Though some part change , such as top panel
Currently I'm trying to use Dosis-Medium, but it always selects the light variant. I figure out how to force it to select medium, but that is working only for Dosis Regular.
other variants are not getting selected
I am using these lines in my `fonts.conf`
<match>
    <test name="family"><string>Dosis-SemiBold</string></test>
    <edit name="style" mode="assign" binding="strong">
      <string>Bold</string>
    </edit>
  </match>

Does this font have those variants?

Yes
fc-list 'Dosis'
/usr/share/fonts/opentype/dosis/Dosis-Light.otf: Dosis:style=Light
/usr/share/fonts/opentype/dosis/Dosis-SemiBold.otf: Dosis:style=SemiBold
/usr/share/fonts/opentype/dosis/Dosis-Bold.otf: Dosis:style=Bold
/usr/share/fonts/opentype/dosis/Dosis-Book.otf: Dosis:style=Book
/usr/share/fonts/opentype/dosis/Dosis-ExtraBold.otf: Dosis:style=ExtraBold
/usr/share/fonts/opentype/dosis/Dosis-ExtraLight.otf: Dosis:style=ExtraLight

Dunno. Why not post it as a question?

Q: How do I make coffee with Ubuntu?

lapisdecorI want to make fresh coffee with Ubuntu, using open/free software, a coffee machine and a wireless connection. What software can I use that is already available, and what hardware do I need to connect/operate a coffee machine at distance using that software? By coffee machine, at this point, I m...

would be a cool snappy app

The question is actually not that bad...
Although it could maybe even better have been posted on Electrical Engineering.

@ByteCommander sounds like it might be more suited to r-pi or somthing? I bet they've already done it :)

6:43 PM
Yeah, maybe. Dunno what features it has, but I think controlling a coffee machine should work.

you can use ubuntu snappy on the pi2, and a variety of other boards, so I bet that would be a cool, but if it is wifi controlled you could potently use any computer

Replace on/off switch of the coffee machine with a power-transistor and then connect it to... Has it serial ports or something like that? Or use USB...
Anyway, have to get back to my presentation... :P

user136984
But maybe you would all prefer some of this... ;D :P

6:59 PM
hrm, should I make a internet-of-things tag?
or maybe home-automation would be better

@Mateo wouldn't that coffee question have been more geared towards the engineering of it though? And be something more fitting in a raspberry exchange or something, idk.

i foresee these types of things becoming more popular with the ninjasphere and it controlling all my lights
@baxx I would sooner vote too-broad on this one... but in general I like it.

@Mateo never heard of it - just googled it - that thing runs on ubuntu? And yeah, I think it's a good question too really
operating system "Snappy Ubuntu Core" fair, never heard of snappy!

yeah, looks cool: ninjablocks.com

If people start doing more maker stuff with Ubuntu I guess that changes things a bit for what's seen as fitting for here

7:06 PM
would be awesome if you could just wave over that and it would start your morning coffee

It'd be cool if different gestures could do different things, like a tap might do one thing and a clap another
it probably already does that and I haven't checked though

yeah, there is like a point at it and do a circle for volume/fade level on lights - then a wave, tap, things like that
hm, wemo enable coffee maker google.com/shopping/product/… + device controlling wemo?

be cool if that apps open

github.com/ninjasphere/go.wemo don't know if they tried the coffee maker yet, but looks promising

user136984
@Mateo @baxx: That coffee thing though could be like the Teasmade reinvented though! :D

7:15 PM
@Toroidal teas made needs a reboot anyway :)

let's do the home-automation tag, that would be good for a lot of this new stuff

I've got an rsnapshot config file in /etc that I want in my ~/ so that I can track it using Homeshick, if I mv it to ~/ rsnapshot throws an error about there being no config file.... What's the obvious solutions to this problem?
@Mateo just wondering - although with Snappy it seems that it would be covered by Ubuntu, but wouldn't the skill set of people in R-Pi be better suited? Or does it generally not matter?

snappy can run on the pi2, audruino, all of those boards, or a regular computer, so I think it is not limited by hardware so much

This is actually a pretty good question: How do I make coffee with Ubuntu?. But, will probably get closed.

@blade19899 yeah, we were talking about that just now

7:25 PM
@Mateo Your right. Read before posting. amirite xD

I'm leaning towards for it
even though being a tad on the broad side, it certainly is applicable to ubuntu

Question to the mods: Should people create tags that probably will never (or rarely) be used? Like "coffee" or "home-automation" as in this question. Or should we check for such non-useful tags and edit them out? The tag info still shows only 1 question.

@ByteCommander home-automation could work, there is a lot coming out for snappy, plus I didn't get any negative feed back on it in chat, I agree coffee would not be good however

So I was right to delete the "coffee" tag?
And I assume the tag will be removed from AU completely as well when it reaches 0 questions?
Maybe there should be a feature to color new created tags differently, so that reviewers can see them at the first glance and decide whether it's useful or not...

and I think the usage would be significantly different from automation, so I'm currently hunting down relevant questions

Quick question: how to get file info via terminal? All files media, text etc!

@blade19899 What kind of file info?

8:10 PM
@ByteCommander I remember Braiam showing me a command that could display all sorts of information about any file i gave it. It was CLI. But, I completely forgot the command!

trying something...
@blade19899 got something!

@ByteCommander Yaay

stat filename gives general info (size, age, permissions,...)
and
file filename identifies the content type of the file.
(e.g. ASCII-text, GIF-image,...)
Which one did you search?

found a few more home-automation questions, and summited a excerpt - I imagine this one could be used quite a bit as all the snappy stuff gets more popular - askubuntu.com/tags/home-automation/info

@ByteCommander That works. Not the one I was looking for

8:21 PM
@blade19899 So what additional info are you looking for?

@ByteCommander Some data I recovered had the wrong extension. Didn't wanna rename it to png, jpg, gif before I finally found the right extension.

But THAT does it do...

Oooohhh, I like the new profile layout.

@ByteCommander file f473f.jpg
Showed me that it was just a txt file.
Corrupted, but, I know its not important so, I'm good.

Strange...
Could you paste the first few characters (cat f473f.jpg | less) maybe?
Would be interested if the header looks strange...
@hbdgaf Yeah, it's cool! I also love it.
But it does not fit to the rest of the page...
Or better: Now the remaining old part of the page does not fit the top bar any more!

8:27 PM
@ByteCommander I didn't mean its corrupted as in the content is corrupted.

I think the "progress towards next privilege" and "progress towards next badge" might gain some engagement from people. I think that's the goal of it I suppose. To further gamify SE.

Its just allot of file links, like so:
> file:///BLAH/HLAF/ASDASc
file:///BLAH/HLAF/ASDASc
file:///BLAH/HLAF/ASDASc
file:///BLAH/HLAF/ASDASc
Didn't paste the actually file paths, because sensitive data.

@Mateo Why do you think this is related to home-automation? I don't see the reason... askubuntu.com/q/400626/367990

Corrupted as in its turned from a txt to jpg

@ByteCommander "-I'll have an outlet like Belkin WeMo (simple approach) or an Arduino controlled relay (if I get motivated) cycle power on the rig a few times a day, "

@ByteCommander Me neither. Its a Recovery from ages ago. With Recuva so, no biggie

@Mateo I would not really call a remote plug-puller home-automation though...

user136984
@ByteCommander No, it proves though how evil you are! >:D :P

@ByteCommander I think home-automation was appropriate for that one.

maybe... ;-)
