12:02 AM
Good lord did I have a ton of typos.

12:17 AM
For anybody that wants to try a Windows game (assuming is not steam)
6
A: Adjusting resolution for individual Wine programs

Luis AlvaradoYou could try a way i was searching for when i wanted to use different programs an the same time or even the same program in multiple windows: Lets assume you have World of Warcraft installed in /media/fun/wow Lets also assume you have Left 4 Dead 2 installed in /media/fun/l4d2 Lets last assume ...

whoops not that

Q: Gaming performance difference between windows 7 and Ubuntu

Maik KleinWhat are the pros/cons switching from windows 7 to ubuntu ? I mainly develop software and play games. I obviously don't play games on my laptop that's why I give ubuntu a try. But the whole OS looks great and I recently discovered playonlinux. How big is the performance hit from windows games ...

Hey guys! Please, take a look to the First Posts queue. It has many post, (21 now). Thanks..

@Lucio I saw that too :(

Oh my god, it's a @Mochan!

@FEichinger Long time no see :)

Indeed!
How are you doing? =D

12:28 AM
Hey, good job getting into the election :>
@FEichinger Bit busy, but fine.
How about you~?

@Mochan Thanks!

@FEichinger No problem. Good luck ;)

@Mochan Oh, well ... Finances are bad, time is lacking and I'm madly lazy ... Sooo, fine, I guess.

@FEichinger Aren't we all, ahhahaha :P
Ugh... I do but don't want to review... what to do... ugh...
OMG I'm not on the top list anymore?! MUST. REVIEW. CRAP.
5

@Mochan What about now.. :P
@Mochan absolutely

12:32 AM
Well, you did do kinda "nothing" and it's election season, so obviously a ton of people want to improve some stats ;)

@Lucio Yeah.. I'll help out I guess :<
@Lucio ty
@FEichinger True.

@Mochan Should be a comment, NAA it into oblivion.

@FEichinger Done :3

Great

12:48 AM
hello all

@GeorgeEdison I don't have the rep on SO...sorry. It was too catty for me to enjoy being there.

Are you sure you're not linking against anything built by the QT team? it's all you?
That answer does seem like it might have it...unless you're SURE sure

Ah, it's opened now.

12:56 AM
Nice... and thanks for confirming that $PATH is not an occult being ;)
gave your answer an upvote since it obviously solved your problem and you're trying to be helpful

Nyahahaha! GUESS WHO'S BACK

back again. shady's back. tell a friend....

@Mochan Good job!

@FEichinger \o/
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Correction: Mochan's back :>
6

@Mochan What page is that on?

1:08 AM
@GeorgeEdison First Post review tasks. I'm down the bottom but I have been absent for a while and fell behind ;)
Well, I'm off now to have macaroons at McDonald's. Is the weird? Yes, I know it is. That was rhetorical. Anyway... bye!

1:28 AM
Ooops. I cast the wrong flag.

Yeah, I was pointing to the fact that it might actually be related...but if you were sure. Still you were trying to be helpful.
I should file a bug against -dev pseudo packages instead of launchpad so they have to choose. The two bugs are mutually exclusive. Either one is right or the other is...

I've got everything working except for this.
...and it's driving me nuts.

maybe ~ isn't getting expanded? it's too complex to replicate

@Mochan!!

if you had a VM i would work on it...but it's not something that i can make happen at will

1:37 AM
aw, missed it

/me is convinced she's a doppleganger of a he that frequents the room put there to be used.

hmm

Sure.

@Mochan if you're actually a she and exist...I'm sorry for that ^^

aw man, missed a lot of town hall questions

Q: What to do with questions from here that have already been answered in another SE site?

LucioFrequently, I see unanswered questions from this site that has been previously asked in another SE site (mostly SO) and this one has an answer that have worked for the OP. Should I copy and paste the answer here, and improve the information according for the case? Or anyone has a better idea?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing You know ... That is really an awful way of putting that.

I never get points for being sensitive. I usually get points for being right.

:O
OMW MUST CAST VOTES!

@Seth Hey, is UTT working fine for you atm?

Overlord of Modern Warfare MUST CAST VOTES?

1:53 AM
Oh My Word.
@jokerdino lemme check..
Running dist-upgrade on UTT

just ensure you are on 0.0.3 version.

Thanks. I just figured the bug. :)

Hmm
Doesn't seem to be better

jrg
@Mochan! Welcome back!

1:57 AM
what's the default icon set again?

jrg
Humanity or something like that

I have no idea myself.

Mochan's back? Awesome!

Oh Qt - trust me, I have OpenSSL installed!
Why won't it listen?

jrg
Oh, @GeorgeEdison. saw an awesome shirt today about qt

1:58 AM
it's dmz-white

Canonical hosts TF2 server, annnnnd my intel GPU gives me a straight black screen.

@jokerdino So no. Reset defaults still doesn't work in Cursors.

jrg
and now i'm not going to be able to find a picture of it, but it said "<love> QT"
(right @Flabricorn?)

@jrg It was I </heart> QT
3

okie votes cast.

1:59 AM
I wonder if... maybe OPENSSL_LIBS might work...

@Seth :((( i'll fix it ASAP

jrg
ok, i stand corrected.

BBIALB
@jokerdino OK Great :)

@GeorgeEdison stop using pkgconfig and start declaring your lib folders manually

jrg
user image
3
oh man, that's a nice one. You should get that for your kid @Flabricorn. someday. ;)

2:00 AM
@jrg I don't know whether to love or hate that one.
@AbrahamVanHelpsing But... but... that isn't very reusable.

@jrg It'd be beautiful on an infant.

@GeorgeEdison ^^

jrg
Crude developer humor. :P

Blatant GitHub marketing if you ask me :P

BitBucket FTW!

OP has an answer he'd like to post.

I'ld fork you if you statically coded your library directories

jrg
fine, reopened.

@GeorgeEdison codeplex ftw
pykd is a work of a god

2:02 AM

@GeorgeEdison that is wrong on so many levels...how many people contributed to that one?

jrg
@Flabricorn: Ok, add me on skype, jrgifford_.

i stand by my codeplex observation

jrg
oh, found you. added.

2:05 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing But BitBucket isn't that bad either.

jrg
I <3 bitbucket for private projects
anything i want to share though, github.

bitbucket has some good stuff too

jrg
it has the community.

@jrg This.

jrg
it's the truth though. i mean, i adopted a library, and within days i had an additional 5-10 issues, pull requests, and stars.
if i'd hosted it on bitbucket, i might not have anyone using it anymore.

2:11 AM
One moment.

jrg
ok, no rush. just wanted to get that detail out of the way before tomorrow.

@jrg I couldn't remember my login for the old account, it's been out of commission for a while I started a new one.

jrg
@Flabricorn fair enough

@Seth your favourite bug is now squashed.

jrg
@jokerdino yeah! BUG SQUISHING! GUTS EVERYWHERE!

2:24 AM
we are on a tight schedule. March 7 is feature freeze :|

jrg
oh, you aiming to land in raring as default?

not default. just in the repo at the moment

jrg
ah, k

2:50 AM
@jokerdino checking ;)
@bcbc Ever fix your problem?

it is not in PPA yet. will be there in a matter of minutes :)
or hours. LP takes time to build.

Okie dokey then :D

:D

jrg
appropriate meme is appropriate. and i like squirrels.

(my commercial)

jrg
@Seth i did indeed. i also priavte gisted my predictions, so when the election is called i'll have my awesome punditry available for all of you to laugh over

I am LOL now.

jrg
2:55 AM
guess i shouldn't share specifics until i lose all my bets.

No one is interested in my 100 rep?

well, i owe you a bounty for promoting my app ;)

Oh I don't think so :)
I already got 70 out of it.
Then the OP asked me to delete it XD

o.O

It wasn't the exact answer he wanted lol.
He wants to do an impossible thing.

3:00 AM
lol what was that he wanted? you can change the opacity IIRC

Not of the icons themselves
That's what he wants

he wants duller icons? perhaps switch icon theme

Icon themes only change default icons.
e.g. Nautilus, terminal, etc

some of the themes have more icons though.
well, whatever he is requesting seems a bit out of hand

Yeah...
I told him I'd figure out how to edit individual icons if he wanted...
shrug

3:03 AM
heh

I like UTT's though.

it was made by Sam Hewitt :)
a gear with a switch

Yeah :)
It's nice.

:)

:O I found a site with 20 spam messages in 14 minutes

3:07 AM
blacklist that site!

3:18 AM
@Seth I haven't had any time to try it yet. TBH I had forgotten about it, but I'll check later tonight or tomorrow

i only see bar codes.

@jokerdino There was so much messages that I had to zoom out the page :P

:P

@jokerdino What do you tell me about this elections??

3:31 AM
What do you want to know about the elections?

@jokerdino emm.. Nothing really :P

But you wanted me to tell you something.

I think (IMHO) you will be one of the tree.. :)

I will be fortunate enough if I was. :)

You did/do a greet job in the meta

3:34 AM
Thanks. I help in every way I can. :)
I need to go for break fast. I'll check back later. :)

@jokerdino cya

Anyone running Lxde here?

@Seth I am.

Can you post a screenshot of the "Properties" dialog for a file? Preferably of a .mkd file.
Looks like that in Unity.

@Seth what is that? .mkd

3:43 AM
A markdown file.
Markdown is what SE uses for formatting
2
sudo apt-get install retext is pretty awesome :)

@Seth Do you want the "Open With" dialog? In LXDE, that's separate from the Properties dialog.

@Seth That is the most useful line that I ever see in the chat!
Know I understand..

@EliahKagan No, the properties dialog please.
@Lucio Glad it helped you :D

appears
It's voting time

@AmithKK There was a voting time, now (for me) is waiting time :)

3:52 AM
Well.. even if I didn't win. This was great interview experience :P
And also the first time I managed to get my body off the bed right on time :P
2

lol

@AmithKK super lol

The power of politics
Even my alarm failed
My parents woke me up :P

Now that is funny.
2

@Seth Sorry, was unintentionally afk. I'll make that now.

3:54 AM
The town hall chat looks like the transcript of a pokemon battle.
No joke
A wild Grace Note appeared
Grace Note asked

@EliahKagan thanks

mateo_salta answered
Anna Lear asked for clarification

@EliahKagan @Seth Bounty for that? :P

@Lucio bounty for??

3:57 AM
@EliahKagan For that.. I mean this

ah no.

Q: How can I change what keys on my keyboard do?

SethI want to change the key bindings on some of the keys on my keyboard. I want some to run commands and others to activate different keys. What applications can I use to do this? NOTE: This is an attempt at making a canonical question. Please contribute by editing and or answering! ...

that though :D

@Seth Damn. you didn't tell me that you have a bounty for that.

Well I do.. started yesterday..
Watch meta :P

Well, xbindkeys is my preferred method

Err, I already answered xbindkeys :/

4:00 AM
Yeah
that's bountyworthy

Not done yet..
@EliahKagan Thanks BTW :)

@Seth The third answerd there is really poor formatted

Yeah I know.
No bold at least :P
I gave it an upvote 'cause it was a little helpful at least

@Seth yep

A: Double-clicking on .md or .mkd or .markdown files doesn't open them in ReText but in the default text editor

SethYou should be able too (I can after a quick LXDE install) right click on a file and choose "Properties". There should (according to what I find) be a tab called "Open With". Select "ReText" and that's it.

@EliahKagan --^

4:24 AM
@Seth Lol that seems too easy

IKR XD

good morning

Hello

Was there a merlina in the King Arthur story?

idk

4:35 AM
:P

@AmithKK hi
@Seth o/

@Anwar Hey

loving the squarish theme

@Anwar ?

I am seeing squarish notifications here
like this @AmithKK

4:38 AM
lol

:)
notice the red square

THat's wrong, right?

@Anwar Does look nice..
On another note:
Eh, what?
Aha!
He must have run run sudo apt-get remove --purge wine *
notice the space between wine and *
good grief.

@Seth omg

5:29 AM
Ah!
The 10th are leaving.
Sad :/

Well this sucks. Was making a good answer to this question askubuntu.com/questions/256738/flash-video-dont-appear-in-veoh when suddenly, the OP removed the question lol

@Seth No, this is very unlikely. The shell will only pass an unescaped * as an argument if the current directory is empty. And even if it did, apt-get doesn't process wildcards the same way a shell does--it will try to interpret * as a regular expression and fail. It will match nothing, and nothing will be uninstalled. (You can use apt-get -s ... to see what a command would do, without actually performing the operations.)
@LuisAlvarado If the answer would help others, you can make a new question, and answer it with your answer. (If the answer is highly specific to the details of the OP's situation, then you should of course generalize it somewhat.)

naa
it was actually a duplicate
was going to mark it as such

@LuisAlvarado Well, you could answer the master question.

@EliahKagan thanks for the tip buddy

5:45 AM
@LuisAlvarado is sqfs slower than a normal FATFS?

6:17 AM
@mateo_saita!!
@jrg It's nice to be here :3

Q: During the election phase, do I need to cast all three votes for my votes to count?

AshRjIn the currently ongoing elections, do I need to cast all 3 votes for my votes to count, or is casting say, one vote or two votes, also counted ?

@abrahamvanhelpsing I am very much existent and very much female, thank you very much! XD

6:55 AM
Ah! My server is running out of memory :(

7:09 AM
So much fail:
0
A: How do I use a different drive as an installation location?

jimmythat's great... how about telling the less linux/ubuntu inclined on how to do just that! Not only that, but you posted a fricking screen shot from a WINDOWS machine in an Ubuntu forum... WOWWWWWW....

Ask Ubuntu is NOT a forum.
I can't close a question as a duplicate because the original doesn't have an accepted answer?
What in the world is going on here?

7:32 AM
Well that took a while:

A: CPU Usage on Asus 1015BX using VAAPI (Lubuntu 12.10)

Vincent Jayyou are obviously lying. I am owner of 1015bx and during 1080p playback my cpu utilization under Windows is 30-40% on both cores, running Ubuntu with unity turned off its 65-75% on both cores. I hope you have your own reasons to lie on the internet. P.S.: Give us a screenshot or video sample to ...

happy people. :-/

@njallam Whoa. Gives an upvote.

@GeorgeEdison Thanks. I've been working on that answer for weeks! (including breaks)

@njallam nice answer

@maggotbrain :) It was mostly for myself as I have the exact same issue.

7:36 AM
In step #6, is there supposed to be a space before .config?

The command has ` in it and that is the same as the code indicator
Any ideas?

I can fix it.
I just need to know if there is supposed to be a space there.

OK, thanks

There, how's that?

thanks
I was going to come back to that but I forgot about it :P

7:39 AM
It's actually a neat little trick.

@njallam I do the same with many of my answers. Someone asks the Q while I am working on the issue for myself. :-)

All you have to do is use two backticks to open and close the command.
So then you can do " ... ` ..."

ah, OK. I'll remember for future
A bounty!? for me!? :D

For you!
Your answer deserves some points!

:D
Is it OK if we duplicate flag this or have an official answer pointer thing: askubuntu.com/questions/240020/…
It's the same solution

7:48 AM
Sure.
I've voted to close as a dupe.

cool, thanks
That solution will work for all current Sharkoon mice

@njallam Lol.

8:06 AM
@njallam thats rather painful...
I mean for mouse support
(says the guy who bountied macro support for his keyboard... ;p)

yeah. I wish this was a default kernel thing

eheh
it is
and the patent system is kinda broken

Yeah, it's broken pretty bad.
But suing end users? That's just wrong.

KERNEL COMPILE COMPLETED!
It feels like I have waited my whole life for this moment!

8:21 AM
YES!
The mouse works!

That tiny little netbook mouse was starting to hurt my hand

XD
yeah, they would do that
my dad loves them for whatver reason

I used to like them but now I am used to the bulky ones

XD, I like my gear chunky
other than laptops

8:45 AM
Out of interest, how many people here are running Steam for Linux?

appears

hi
I just recompiled my kernel!

@njallam Hey
MNice

9:03 AM
And now I'm playing Team Fortress 2 on Ubuntu

Nice.

I just wanted to get the Tux item and see how well it plays
It's adequate

@njallam I should do that someday :P

:)

9:16 AM
Do you have a Steam account?

@njallam Me? No
Well to be honest

OK

I used to pirate most of the games I play
and legally used GoD to play them
used to

ah OK

TF2 is free to play

9:22 AM
There are so many good Free to Plays these days

@jokerdino So, what are the min sys requirements?

I dont know. i haven't looked into it.

Really minimal
Can run on a toaster

potato?

what weight? :P
