I need some help formulating what/how to ask a question regarding slow networking on localhost. I'm really at a loss for where to start. Its a stock 12.04 install, and every connection is taking upwards of 15 to 20 seconds to initiate.
example, connecting to a localhost mongo db - takes 45 seconds to recognize that its there and go. On other PC's its instant. And it doesn't end there, even ssh handshaking which normally takes circa 3 to 5 seconds is taking 30 to 45

Interesting.
Was it always like that or just happen to happen a while ago?

It happened within the last 2 weeks.

That's after 12.04.1 calamity.
Might be one of the updates.

1:44 PM
unless its related to dbus i'm current on updates
I think i'll give it a go and see what happens

Good luck.

1:57 PM
it really seems like its more of a socket issue. HTTP Networking is still pretty rapid
its anything I issue from the command line

:(
you can probably reset some related setting

Thats what i'm looking for, is hte magic setting thats causing the trouble. I didn't know where to start and it really seems like its too localized to be asked on the site.
I have no imperical evidence other than "it just doesnt feel as snappy as it used to be"

or post on the forums :P

Found the issue - its not all command line bits, its isolated to my ruby instance here at work

too loco

2:03 PM
k, i'll quit spamming about it now. Thank you :)

@blade19899 have you flagged it?
@Prasad mount the fedora partition and try again

2:40 PM
hi honey!

@HoneyBadger Thanks...it worked!!!....

@Prasad Good job.

@HoneyBadger yes as an exact duplicate, but after thinking about it, those 2 are not EXACT duplicates

@blade19899 I mean, have you flagged it for reopening?
To flag it, type out what you want in the custom field.

2:42 PM
@HoneyBadger what will happen If i reinstall grub using grub customizer, I need to customize grub background and also resolution, will it recognize fedora?

@hone

@Prasad if fedora doesn't show up, do the same as i said.

@HoneyBadger. i was told here(meta.askubuntu.com/questions/4099/…) that i need a rep of 3000. to vote to reopen

i suggest you mount fedora when you are customizing grub though.
@blade19899 flagging and voting is different.

@HoneyBadger Thanks a lot

2:46 PM
@HoneyBadger. apparently they are, how to 'flag' for reopening. when i select flag near the question, i dont see a 'reopen flag'?

need to go..bye all

hihi... almost 5 be gone soon two, XD

Flag it using custom field.

Nice try. Not upvoting.
but seriously, why do people even talk about burg.
it should be banished altogether

Hi @RolandTaylor

@smartboyhw hi
@HoneyBadger why?

@RolandTaylor It is a broken piece of grub.

3:24 PM
@HoneyBadger oh

No updates, not rigorously tested like grub and what not?
only one advantage. eye candy and all the wannabes want it

@HoneyBadger really?
i never tried it out, and frankly am not familiar with it

yep. at least until they actually start proving updates.
there are a total of 7 updates in the history of burg.

huh

A: Why doesn't BURG replace GRUB?

Stefano PalazzoBecause BURG is not ready to be deployed on this many machines. It's very early in it's development, and I'm sure later on, say when they have reached a beta version, people will start to look into it. Check burgs Project Page on Launchpad to keep up with development(s). As people have pointed...

very early into development = two years ago
not much changed, then? :)
