Q: Is there a way to disable a specific account in Empathy? (Quantal)

Roland TaylorWith the new online accounts feature, all my accounts are now centralized. However, it seems there is no way to disable a chat account without disabling this account for everything else on the system. Is there any way to do this?

I hope this question has a meaningful answer.

1:10 AM
@GeorgeEdison or a hard coded relative location
that way you just dump them in the appropriate spot
has anyone seen a list of ip blocks by country?

jrg
not exactly what you're looking for, but close

i mean i suppose i could use the geo-ip list and work backwards, but i thought that would be pointless if something already existed

I asked a question over on SF a while back...

and yes, that's close

jrg
oh, you can download them in csv.

Q: Best way to block a country by IP address?

George EdisonI have a website that needs to block a particular country based on IP address. I am more than aware that IP-based blocking is not a foolproof method for blocking visitors, but it is a necessary step in the right direction. Since I'm using PHP, what I would do is use a GeoIP database like geoplug...

neat, but i'm kind of trying to go in the other direction...

Oh, I see.

Q: How do I encrypt a dual boot system?

jrgI have a dual-boot laptop with four partitions - Windows, swap, Ubuntu (OS) andUbuntu /home. I need to do full disk encryption on it. Ubuntu is running 12.04, Windows is Windows 7.

i will be bountying it - it's worth 300-400 rep to me.
Unless @aking1012 has a suggestion on how to get a extremely lightweight Windows VM. ;P

^--- Everything you need to know to write SSL server apps in Qt.

Wow, Qt is like a language almost lol

1:29 AM
@jrg what version of seven? you should be able to add a small partition and support bitlocker

jrg
@aking1012 Windows Home Premium.

@RolandTaylor It does almost everything.

@jrg :/ sorry

jrg
@aking1012 oh well.

i'm at a loss as to why truecrypt can't chainload grub...but afaik it can't

jrg
1:30 AM
:(

jrg
that blog post is dead

i know...but
there's the thread that talks about it. evidently some people have grub chainloading truecrypt (doing it the other way around) then using linux fde for the linux side

jrg
hm.
I can test this - i encrypt /home, run a windows VM inside that.
i'm perfectly OK with imploding my windows partition if I can get that working.
and it's not dog slow.

what windows software are you running that requires more than wine?
please don't say webex

jrg
1:34 AM
vmware management tools.

...or IE9.

jrg
i need IE
and webex. :\

vm it is sir...vm it is. i'm confident i could get truecrypt working chainloaded BY grub just not the other way around

jrg
i have my other laptop (that almost never leaves the house) for iTunes and Steam, which is the only thing that needs to run on a physical machine...

itunes is an abomination...just saying

jrg
1:37 AM
I still want to have an answer for that question. ;P

great idea...poor implementation

jrg
@aking1012 I agree, but I don't have a choice. I need it around for troubleshooting, and i haven't found a better podcast management software.

i need to finish off my flashcard project, screen recorder gui, and xmpp notifier before i start tinkering on anything else

jrg
heh. by all means, go for the other, more important stuff first.

there needs to be an OSS wishlist for would be paid OSS developers though...something not exactly gun.io, but more "current solutions are weak in that they don't X"
begins trying to think of a way to make that a business model

now that looks cool.

i wonder if the rdp bug msf module bounty has grown any...
i can't find it now. either it was somehow withdrawn, or completed

FYI, vmware ESXi is free to use. Just sign up and you get up to 999 machines for it.
just wish I could run ESXi on my laptop, and just boot VMs as needed. :\
so i'd be both the thin client and server all in one. ;P

heh. i'm more interested in trying to massage a couple of thin qemu VMs into a network configuration for openstack so i could do it with or without hardware virtualization support
i had no idea qemu supported vlans you can hide from the host until recently

Can anybody help me with a query I am doing and the values appear very outdated. Here is the link: data.stackexchange.com/ubuntu/query/78218/… but the values several have are like from 2 months ago if not more.

it's probably running against an old dataset. i get your reputation from some time ago

how do I force update to a new DB
I mean lol, I mean connect to an updated DB
sorry doing 3 things at the same time

i don't know that you can...it might have something to do with all the down and ups recently...trying to get all the dbs in sync
cluster database replication snafu

I think I'm going to try and use hosted chef for my laptop.
I <3 puppet, but can't justify the cost of having to run a puppetmaster. :(

You mean you haven't drank the juju-juice yet?

jrg
pfft. can't manage an army of laptops using juju.

it's the Ubuntu/Canonical version of kool-aid...that was the intended joke

@jokerdino thanks for the 0 A.D. correction

jrg
i know. i'm just being very practical after this weekend

2:12 AM
I hope I didn't look like a fool :)

@RolandTaylor It's cool.

@jrg nobody blames you...

@RolandTaylor You didn't :)
No one would know it landed in Precise anyway ;)

@aking1012 i know... :P
@aking1012 I prefer to take the red pill, and stay in wonderland.

i'm applying at the video rental store across the street this week. deadlines are a pain.

2:43 AM
Legalize Unit Testing!

that is hilarious
also i figured out a way around the part of sencha that was giving me pain

brilliant

instead of trying to get it to manipulate data stores and wrapping it in phonegap, i'm just using python-for-android and objective python(ios) to run a thin webserver that does minimal disk access. then pile on a pyqt webkit browser and BAM
added bonus, it works on desktops with zero modifications

nice

NICE?!

In my opinion, This question is not a duplicate, because the other question asking for only Firefox button, but the OP here know how to enable the button, He wants to know how to add other toolbar icons too. In other words, it is a broader question. — Anwar 44 secs ago

Only on a terminal emulator.

So, no with gnome-terminal?

4:24 AM
Yeah you can with gnome-terminal because it is a terminal emulator.
But you can't on a tty for example

OK, how?
If you find a way, You should add the solution here
I've tried this but it's not working/ or i don't know how to use it

@Anwar it normally works for me IIRC.

Q: Why Ubuntu doesn't have a dwonload manager in its ditribution?

maythuxEverybody knows the importance of a download manager in our daily work and badly i didnt find it in ubuntu by default

@msPeachy lol
that's around the same time I went to sleep today (I woke up early so I decided to take a nap around that time)

:) I see

we mirrored each other lol

I was upgrading and it says 1h 45 mins, so I decided to lie down and forgot to leave the room and logout AU
@RolandTaylor sometimes

You're upgrading packages or to a newer version of Ubuntu?

6:55 AM
new version
is it not recommended to upgrade? would it be better to just do a clean install?

I'm back
Welcome back @msPeachy

@AmithKK o/

@msPeachy it's safe to upgrade (I do it every cycle)
I was asking cause of the time it would take
@AmithKK hello Allmith

The reason I decided to upgrade was because I can't start VBox

Oh?
Any errors?

6:59 AM
Yes, it was working fine before and last night I really needed to run my Windows 7 vm I kept getting this error: The device helper structure version has changed.

never heard of that error

so if I am supposed to reinstall it, then I might as well just upgrade and reinstall it later if it isn't upgraded yet
this is the complete error message on the dialog box:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7.

The device helper structure version has changed.

If you have upgraded VirtualBox recently, please make sure you have terminated all VMs and upgraded any extension packs. If this error persists, try re-installing VirtualBox. (VERR_PDM_DEVHLPR3_VERSION_MISMATCH).

Did you update the extension packs?
